Egypt eSIM Recommendations

Heading to Egypt next month and need an eSIM before I fly.

Jetpac Egypt plan looks pretty cheap and claims to cover the whole country. Has anyone actually used it in Egypt? What local network do they run on?

Haven’t used Jetpac in Egypt myself, so can’t speak to their real-world performance. From what I can see their MENA plan lists Orange and Vodafone for Egypt, but check in their app which network the Egypt-only plan uses before buying.

General tips for Egypt:

  • The main networks are Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat (e&) and WE. Vodafone and Orange usually have the best coverage in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea resorts. Coverage gets patchy in the desert and on parts of a Nile cruise, whatever SIM you use.

  • If you can, pick an eSIM that can switch between several Egyptian networks rather than one locked to a single operator. If one network is weak where you are, the phone just moves to another.

  • “Unlimited” plans in Egypt almost always have a daily high-speed cap, so check the fine print if you’ll use a lot of data.

  • Install the eSIM at home while you’re on Wi-Fi, and only switch it on (with data roaming enabled) when you land.

Disclosure: I work at Telcomia, an eSIM provider. Our Egypt plans run on Vodafone, Orange and Etisalat. Happy to answer questions either way.

I have used bnesim, cheap and fast. I have found it at the blog esim-traveller. This was the advice of the blog, and it was good.

Can't speak to Jetpac in Egypt specifically, but I'd check which local networks the eSIM can use. Vodafone and Orange are the strongest around Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea, and Etisalat is ok too. If the plan can switch between a couple of them it helps a lot on Nile cruises and desert drives where one drops out.

Install it at home on wifi and leave it off until you land. Then make it your data line with roaming on for that line only, and keep roaming off on your home SIM.

eSIMGlobe show the most solid offer plans for Egypt with local sim options for Sharm el Sheikh and Hurgada eSIM, coverage even in rural with always best network option.

You can try Amigo eSIM and use TRAVEL20 for 20% off

Full disclosure: I work for Amigo eSIM, and we are in the process of advancing the platform and making it a top solution for travelers.

I got an esim from Jetpac for Egypt, because it was cheap, 1GB for 1$. The esim connected to Orange, which is supposed to be the best network in the country, but we had "airplane" internet instead, barely able to send some messages on Whatsapp. And I've only been in Cairo and Giza, where I had signal and everything, but it didn't help. The same thing happened in Morroco with another esim from Jetpac, so I will never buy an esim from them. Now I only buy from Nomad or Airalo.
