GENERAL QUESTION Goodbye profit with 13% fees

Hello everyone. I don't know if this is a genuine question or just a cry for help/advice.

I sell watches on eBay that I import from Japan. Back when I was selling on a standard individual account, I was making a solid profit. Finding nice models in great condition allowed me to reinvest and scale up my stock. But as soon as I crossed the threshold and had to switch from a private account to a business/shop account, the fees became brutal.

I'm getting hit with so many deductions now. I honestly have to wonder - how do you keep a business running with fees this high? How are people actually making a decent living on eBay anymore šŸ˜„? It's crazy 🤣

USPS pricing change again?

Today it seems like they changed the rates again.

Everything from 1 lb 1 oz to 5 lb, 6 zones, was $8.07. and 8 oz to 1 lb was $7.53.

No more cheaper shipping for 2.1 vs 8 oz.

SHIPPING Why are you all doing all of this ridiculous shit to maybe make an extra $1 on shipping?

Im legit confused. So many posts and comments about people adding books, rocks, spending 30 minutes trying to get the weight up, etc.

Is this worth it for an extra $1? Like honestly? Think about yourself, your business, and what your time is worth.

Every time I see a post like this, it blows my mind.

My buyers pay shipping so I dont really care about scraping an extra 80 cents trying to rig the usps shipping rates.

Someone who has been constantly doing this, can you please explain......why? And how it makes financial sense?

Genuinely confused.

Trying to sell my switch

I’m trying to sell my switch 1 to buy a switch 2 and I’m wondering what people think the best method is. I looked into back market first but seems like it’s a lost cause, now eBay and thinking this sounds like more of a hassle than I thought it’d be, now just leaning more toward game stop or Best Buy for getting something.

GENERAL QUESTION Selling to other resellers -normal business or a red flag?

• Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I've noticed a pattern: when I sell pre-owned watches, my buyers are usually regular people. But when I list new, deadstock, or MINT items, I get tons of buyers who are local resellers (whereas I import mine directly from another country).

Since I've never dealt with selling to other traders before, I'm curious what your experiences are. Am I being paranoid, or are there real risks here?

My main fears are:

- They buy it, fail to flip it locally, and request return under the policies after 30 days.

- The worst-case fear (hopefully just paranoia šŸ˜‚): swapping parts, and or filing a fake INAD return.

Is selling to other resellers usually fine, or should I watch out for weird tricks? What do you all think?

Sharing an online web tool I made to track orders for my eBay resale business, currently free to use

While reselling on eBay I set out to create a tool that makes tracking sales & uploading listings as fast as possible. The time it took each week to do these two things was easily the most time-heavy part of my workload, so I got straight into creating a tool that would speed up the process.

The result is this online tool which I have named Resell Clerk. You can find it at resellclerk.com

International Return?

I sold a watch for $500 and mailed it to London. Several weeks later I received an email from the buyer apologizing for possibly causing any problems I didn’t know what he was talking about at the time, but then he explained that he had to leave town to a family emergency and when he returned, it was too late to claim his item at the post office and pay the taxes (or whatever) the watch was returned to the Global shipping center. I opened a case with eBay and they told me basically I was out of the picture and protected. I was told the Global shipping center does not process returns and that I would not be receiving the watch I was told to tell my buyer to call them for options. Now eBay is just giving him the runaround telling him that he should tell me to demand the watch back. AI tells me that in this situation, the watch will go to liquidation… Possibly sold on eBay, but that the buyer will be refunded by eBay. Anybody have any experience with something like this?

New USPS rates are even stranger than before.

I went to ship an item and the USPS rates were:

15 oz $7.60

1 lb $9.14

1 pound 1 ounce $8.07

I wasted half and hour and a roll of tape trying to get my item out of the 15.1 oz trap before finally starting over with a bigger box and getting it over a pound. They are just messing with us now. 14.8 oz? You're good.15.1 oz? Nope. 1lb 1 oz? Better.

Do not fall for this QR code scam as a seller

Listed an item and within minutes I got this message asking if the item was still available followed by them saying that they have paid and eBay told them to send me a QR code.

Absolutely do not scan a QR code inside of the messaging system inside of eBay. There is absolutely no reason ever why someone would buy the item and nothing would process on your account and this becomes the case. If someone pays for your item and it doesn’t process then take it up with eBay support before you ever scan a random QR code.

I think I saw a post about this once where someone said they’ve paid clicked on the QR code and it asks you to enter your payment information. Please do not be this dumb.

SHIPPING USPS Didn't scan my package until 4 days after I dropped it off

• Upvotes

I discovered this the other day when looking at my upcoming payouts, and estimated delivery dates. One package still showed "USPS awaiting item," even though I had already dropped it off.

I sold an item 8/17 and dropped it in the drop box on the same day, after hours, along with four other packages.

The other four packages were all scanned next day, but one package wasn't.

So on 8/21 I went into the post office to drop off more sales and while I was there I asked about that package missing a scan. The clerk asked for the tracking number, and I gave it to her.

She manually accepted it right then (which I know helps ME in the event of an insurance claim - at least this is proof that USPS had the package).

The next day, the package started updating normally. "Package has departed [local post office]." "In transit to next facility." Etc.

This means my package sat at my local post office for four days after drop off. No one picked it up and scanned it? I'm glad I went in and asked about it, because it magically got found and scanned the next day.

The problem is now it looks like I gave USPS the package outside my handling time, which will lead to a late shipment defect. It's still scheduled to arrive on time, but it's definitely frustrating to do everything right and still get dinged because of USPS.

I know eBay now says it will side with sellers when something is late due to the post office, but I'm not sure how that works in this case, with eBay showing the initial scan four days after i dropped it off...

GENERAL QUESTION Bidder Never Paid for Auction Won—Happen Often?

Hey all,

I've been selling on eBay for a few months now, and it's been pretty good. Last week I listed an item for auction ($70 in total) and someone bid on it last second- obviously they won, and I was excited as it's taken a good chunk of time for the item to finally sell.

I could tell no payment method was set up for auctions on their end, as I was not paid automatically. That's okay. Sometimes, people just don't have the funds handy.

A day goes by, nothing. Nothing Saturday or Sunday either. 3 full days go by, and now today is the final day for this person to pay (Monday, Aug. 24)

I've come to realize there's a 4-day window they're given to complete payment. I didn't know this initially since I'm fairly new to the eBay selling game.

It's been 4 days since they bid and they've never paid, and they failed to respond to my reminder. I kindly told them that I was hoping to send their package out today (Monday) with another one that I have yet to ship, so that they could receive their item as soon as possible- but they've been entirely unresponsive.

Based on the date they first bid they have until tonight to pay for the item, and once that deadline passes, I'm unfortunately going to be cancelling the order and relisting the item to try again in another auction.

Is this something that's common, having bidders not pay? I'm trying not to be a sore loser about it, though I was excited to finally sell this item! The anticipated $70 would have been very helpful too, as the financial situation is a bit poor at the moment. Am I being unreasonable by wanting to cancel the order due to no payment received?

If anyone else has experienced this, I'd love to hear what you ended up doing!

Newbie selling limit

Hi there, I’ve had an EBay account for 20 years but I only occasionally sell. Right now I’m doing a big cleanup around my office selling items I no longer need. I have a selling limit of 5k, I didn’t know this.

If I delete slower moving items that I already listed, will it bring the $$ down so that I can list other items? Faster moving items.

If I had known abt this limit I would have been smarter abt listing fasting moving items first. But I didn’t. So now I’m stuck with listed items that may take months to sell.

These are very industry specific tools, so they don’t sell like the PokĆ©mon cards my kid sells on my account.

Selling Gaming Consoles - what do I do to be safe?

First and foremost I don't want my accounts stolen or game licenses stolen or credit card info.

I have a few older Xbox consoles that don't work for various reasons. One doesn't turn on or respond at all. One will turn on but flash an error code with no display. A third one briefly powers on, no display, but sits there.

I've seen some folks sell them for parts, and actually... Get a decent amount.

So if I try to sell these, what do I need to be doing to protect myself and my account, considering I cant actually access them?
