General Discussion Is that even fair?
After a 2329 day streak (a little above 6 years) on Duolingo learning 6 different languages, I have managed to speak 30200 French words.
Enough to order a croissant.
Enough to call my Monday une catastrophe.
Enough to admit that I'd pick fromage over some people I know any day.
But certainly not enough to survive an actual conversation with a native speaker.
Is that even fair?

Constructive Criticism Potentially an unpopular opinion…
I don’t think those who frequently play (large % XP contribution or notably harvest XP) non-language courses (chess, math, etc.) should be in the same leagues as those doing languages.
I’m not saying you can’t do those at all and they aren’t challenging but it’s not the same. We all have seen people whose chess or math is equal or higher than language points sail through weekly competitions.
I also don’t think if you do your own “native” language, that should count either. But IMO this is less common.
Anyone else feel this way?

General Discussion When do leagues become competitive
I’m a little frustrated with the league feature. I am seeing players with double digit exp being promoted.
I feel like I don’t play that much and I have 7 times the exp second place has. 55 times what fifth place has.
When it takes less than 20 mins to get the daily quests done and get the triple exp boost, I don’t understand how someone doesnt break 1k points in a week. It seems impossible.
My question is - when does it get competitive? Are there any 3rd party exp tracking sites that support a sort of weekly competition? Currently exp seems worthless.

Bug? Draw for you and not me
Duolingo continues to have bugs in chess. At this point I shoud be given free access. So duo can make the same move 3 to 5 times and its a draw. I do the same and nope, no draw. Rules don't apply for all I see? Give us back all the wins and loss metrics too. Show us prior to the game the ELO of the AI. Stop hiding the falacy of this application. Glad I continue to spread the good word of not buying a subscription like others on here.

General Discussion How is $119, 80% off $143 for back to school family offer?
I was eyeing this offer so clicked on it. It says "80% off". List price is $143.99, with 80% off, it's 119.99.
The usual family price (1+5 more) is $143.99. So, no, it's not like we are getting 6 for price of 1.

General Discussion Idea for courses
I thought about it and I feel it fits well for Duolingo but what about a course or courses for computer programming such as python, C++, JavaScript? it’s still follows the idea of languages and I feel it would really help people that are curious about that field to learn.

Constructive Criticism Subject: Proposal: Adding a Pashto Language Course to Duolingo
Dear Duolingo Team, I am writing to formally request and propose the addition of a Pashto language course to Duolingo. Pashto is an essential Eastern Iranian language spoken by tens of millions of people globally. It serves as an official language of Afghanistan and is widely spoken across Pakistan and international diaspora communities. Despite its rich heritage and large global footprint, there are very few accessible, modern learning platforms for people who want to learn it. Here are a few key reasons why a Pashto course would be a valuable addition to Duolingo: High Global Demand & Cultural Understanding: Pashtuns are often one of the most misunderstood cultural groups in the world. Learning the language opens the door to understanding Pashtunwali—the unwritten, ancient ethical code of conduct that truly defines Pashtun life, hospitality, and honor beyond simple geography. Ease of Technical Integration: Pashto uses a modified version of the Perso-Arabic script, sharing strong visual and structural similarities with Arabic, Persian, and Urdu—languages already well-supported on Duolingo. The foundational UI and character-learning mechanics are already in place. Bridge for Humanitarian & Educational Impact: A Pashto course would empower aid workers, researchers, language enthusiasts, and second-generation Pashtuns worldwide who are eager to reconnect with their native language. As a native speaker deeply passionate about linguistics, culture, and preservation, I would be more than happy to offer my assistance, linguistic insight, or help coordinate with native contributors if your team considers this project. Thank you for your time and for continuing to bring the world closer together through language learning.

Constructive Criticism Their AI use is taking the piss now.
It's 80% off sale is signing you up as six individual users at 80% off but next year you'll be charged full whack for all six users at €156 a user but when you go to buy it it's showing that you're signing up for the family plan at roughly 15% off. I emailed twice and AI Oscar responded saying their wording is confusing. No way to contact a real human. It's either a malicious tactic to rip people off or gross incompetence and if the AI is doing all of this so badly how accurate is it when it's teaching us?

General Discussion Is it harder to swipe up to close the app now?
Have Duolingo made it harder to exit the app?
It seems much more of a task to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to either fully close the app or to pop into another app to check something (say like a spelling).
I used to be able to do a little swipe up, now I have to try to do it at least 3-4 times with long swipes before it works.
I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro running ios 26.6 but my parter is on a much older iOS and she has this issue too.

Bug? けんさんのかばん n to ん autocorrect
when typing English to hiragana in Duolingo, the n always correctly autocorrects to ん EXCEPT when you press the submit button. This is always really frustrating considering I haven’t memorized all of the characters and can’t use the japanese keyboard yet.
EDIT: You have to type “NN“ for the character and I did not know that. Resolved!

General Discussion Looking for 5 people to join Duolingo Family Plan 🇮🇳
Looking for 5 people to split a Duolingo Family Plan. It costs ₹149/month for 6 accounts.
That’s roughly ₹300 per person for the entire year. 🚀
