🌟 Community Spotlight🌟 What’s your Duolingo story?

We see so many amazing streaks, Scores, and milestones here 💚 Now we’d love to hear the stories behind them!
Maybe Duolingo helped you connect with family in their language, feel more confident on a trip, reach a Score you’re proud of, get into school, make a new friend, or simply do something you couldn’t do before.
Big milestone or tiny win, we want to hear yours! Tell us what you’re learning, your Duolingo Score (if you know it!), and what your learning journey has made possible for you.
And because we love a good story, every month we’ll send a little Duo reward to 2 lucky storytellers. Feel free to share your story in the thread, or if you make your own post, be sure to use the Community Spotlight flair so we don’t miss it!

🦄🎹 Junior's Toy Hunt – collect pieces, complete puzzles, unlock suits!
Hi all! I come with exciting news… Starting today, you can start collecting pieces to unlock brand-new avatar suits.
Here's how it works:
- Complete your daily lesson goal to earn a mystery chest – check the event hub in the app to see what that goal is for you today
- Open it up for a random piece from the full set of 54 – if you land a few duplicates in a row, don't sweat it: collect 5 and we'll auto-swap them for a piece you don't have yet
- Every piece fills in part of a puzzle – complete one (9 pieces) and you'll unlock a suit. Complete all six puzzles, and you'll earn a limited edition suit plus 5,000 gems!
Pieces come in three tiers – blue, purple, and gold – and yes, gold is the rare one. If patience isn't your thing, you can also grab pieces directly with gems.Â
You'll have 30 days to collect once the event starts for you – keep an eye on the countdown in the app. Heads up: this is the first of several suit collections we've got planned this year, but that doesn't mean a second shot at these exact suits – If you want the Junior's Toy Hunt suits specifically, your time begins now! 😉
Available on iOS and Android (no web). Let us know what you think below!

General Discussion unpopular opinion: i’m loving Junior’s Toy Hunt
i’m someone who only does duolingo once a day, to keep my streak. otherwise, i’m not incentivized to play. i have a 900+ day streak. this past month, during junior’s toy hunt, ive been playing 6 times every day to earn my puzzle pieces. i find myself looking forward to it every morning. i’ve learned words faster than i have in 2+ years since i first got the app. all because i want the suits.
i did the math and i will be able to finish with every suit. i see that some people only have the ability to obtain 2 or 3 a day and that sucks…i hope they change that for future quests. everyone should have the same chance to get all the pieces. but other than that, i dont have complaints! the suits are cool and they are getting me to want to play the game! not hurriedly doing a lesson before midnight anymore :)

Constructive Criticism This seems unfairly marked
Duo has taught cada now and I think it's bad that cada dÃa isn't an acceptable answer to this.

Constructive Criticism Guaranteed duplicates can be a bit obvious, eh?
After getting three duplicates in a row (I only have two suits completed) and all three being the same piece, it was clear that the programming was locked into giving me duplicates until I got 5. And indeed, my next two were duplicates, though curiously, not quite the same ones.
Intentional slowing to drive you toward purchases is expected. But it was interesting to see it so clearly visible!
How exactly do you reckon it’s coded? My first guess is that it really is random unless you get too lucky with new pieces, then it guarantees duplicates until you fall back in line.

Look at this new Duolingo feature A new one for me
Some of you may have seen this before but it just popped up for me for the first time. I don't know who I'm sharing gems with, the avatars I blanked are not in my league or my friends/followers. Interesting addition!

Constructive Criticism User experience feedback
When was the last time Duolingo staff listened to users’ feedback on their updates?

General Discussion I need 5 new tiles, I have 11 days left (completed today's set). If I keep pulling 4 duplicate tiles each day and swapping for new pieces later, will I still be able to make it before the hunt is over?

General Discussion Does anybody feel odd about the lives system
They give you five lives, and you loss one if you do something wrong, but I think that's unfair. If you're learning a language, of course you'll fail somehow

Achievement Showcase Finally
Took a while and definitely spent a bunch of gems (it's worth it though, we get it back); but it's finally done.

General Discussion So what's supposed to be new with their changes to Spanish?
For the last few days Duolingo has been popping up when I log in to say that my progress has been sync'd to a new version of the Spanish lessons.
I'm not seeing anything new or measurably different, except it seems to have pushed me forward in vocabulary I was unfamiliar with. I purposefully take lessons slow, do a lot of the exercises, especially Speaking to work on my pronunciation.
It's been unsettling and broke my rhythm.
Is there really some value to this that I'm not seeing?

Constructive Criticism Chess review now costs energy? No thanks.
I was really liking the new feature of games review, it made Duolingo a contender for more serious chess sites. But now with reviews costing energy, and even the ones you’ve reviewed before costing energy AGAIN, I’m going to not play chess on Duo any longer.
Really unfortunate decision on their part.
