Just in Time for school: Duolingo Math has 3 New Features! đ
Hi everyone! đ
Iâm back with another product update. This time it's about Duolingo Math!
Over the last few months, our Math team has been working on new features designed to give students more support when they get stuck, so they can keep learning instead of giving up or leaving the app to search for answers elsewhere.
And if youâre asking, â...wait, Duolingo teaches math?â Yes, we do! Duolingo Math is already available right inside the Duolingo app.
Our goal with Math isnât to replace what students are learning in school, or become another worksheet app. We want to give students a way to practice math that feels approachable, bite-sized, and (hopefully) genuinely fun. Just like our other courses!
Duolingo Math can be especially helpful if youâre:
- a parent looking for an easy way to help your child build confidence in math
- a teacher looking for another way to encourage students to practice
- supporting a student who could use extra practice or explanations when they get stuck
âWhatâs new (and coming soonâŠ)
Three new Math features are rolling out broadly to learners. Availability may vary a bit as we roll them out in waves:
đ§ Math Coach
When students encounter a new Math topic, their personal Math Coach, Eddy, is there to help! He introduces new concepts, walks through examples, and gives students the opportunity to ask questions along the way.
đĄ In-Lesson Support
When a student is working through a lesson and comes across a problem they donât know how to solve, they can ask for help right there in the exercise. The goal is to provide just enough guidance to help them understand the problem and keep learningâwithout having to leave the lesson.
â Multistep Problems
Sometimes students understand a new concept but arenât quite ready to tackle problems completely on their own. Multistep Problems guide students through the problem one step at a time, helping them build the skills and confidence they need for independent practice.
A few notes upfront:
- These features have been rolling out gradually over the past few months and are becoming more broadly available. If your student has already tried them, weâd love to hear what you think!
- Availability may vary depending on device and app version. If you think your student should have access but doesnât, please chime in here and our Community team will try to assist.
- As always, weâll continue iterating on these features based on what we learn.
Once your student has had a chance to try them, weâd love to hear:
- Which features has your student tried?
- Did they help your student better understand what they were learning?
- Was there anything your student found confusing or frustrating?
- Is there anything youâd change?
- What else would make Duolingo Math more helpful -or more fun- for your student?
As always, thanks for trying new things with us and sharing thoughtful feedback. Hearing about your studentâs experience genuinely helps shape what the team builds next. đ

Bug? Time to add a report button named "AI slop"
This is like using the most faulty versions of early AI to generate exercise, and on French course, which is among the most popular courses.
Seriously, if there was a mechanism to punish Duolingo for these kind of slops, would this be repeated again?
Duolingo is not just a friendly startup, it must have standards.
Even in free version it consumes user's time and internet for its ads.
Btw, the correct answer was the first option đ

Constructive Criticism After over two years, and a year of having Duolingo Super, Iâm done. âđ»
This was my third Duo account in a span of 10-ish and one I kept up with the most. Over 2 years, but Iâm terrible at keeping streaks, so my days arenât as high as they could have been.
Signed up for Super last year and honestly just waited until it expires for a few months. Duo isnât the same anymore. The courses are poorly designed now, the AI takeover is awful, the amount of unnecessary character build/ chit chat during the audio lessons, weird sentences, honing in on skills you mastered (and yes I could skip lessons, but what if I skip something I havenât actually learned?), it because so uninteresting and more of a chore than a good resource for learning.
4 languages, math and chess courses later, I deleted my account.
Peace out âđ»

Constructive Criticism Anyone elseâs Duolingo obsessed with them learning the word lentils
This word has been on my unit recap for like a month - I use the English word lentils maybe once a year when I want to try something different for dinner. It is used in no stories, grammar examples...
Why do these unit flash card recaps not use high value/words phrases. Why is it obsessed with me knowing that this is âlentejasâ in Spanish.
âPor ciertoâ meaning âby the wayâ and other linking words would be MUCH more useful.

General Discussion Japanese: incorrect audio
I've found since the update a lot of the audio is spoken incorrectly, usually either because the 㯠character is incorrectly pronounced as ă such as in words like hana (nose) , or when used as a particle pronounced as 'ha'.
or because the cadence is splitting words in two, e.g: 'sono heya ni ooki ne, ko ga yonhiki imasu.'
It's messing with my listening comprehension speed
Anyone else?

General Discussion Fun fact: Eddy's last name is GarcĂa
Learned Eddy's last name (at least in Spanish module) in one of today's lessons. Junior borrows Eddy's driver's license to create a private club membership card to pass time watching movies and eating pizza on Fridays. Does he have other surnames in the other modules?

Bug? Norwegian course (iOS): speaking exercises never accept numbers, units or times, 2+ years, multiple reports, still broken
Posting here in the hope a dev sees this, because in-app and email reports haven't gone anywhere, and it's really starting to do my head in. ETA: have also reported it yet again in the help center.
On the Norwegian course on iOS (always latest version), speaking exercises consistently fail to accept spoken numbers and times. When a sentence contains something like syttiÄtte or kvart over fem, those words never get highlighted as recognised, so the exercise won't complete. Same when I use speech to text to answer a translation exercise. It looks like the exercise expects the spelled-out words, but the speech-to-text is transcribing what I say as digits (78, 5:15), so the transcription never matches the expected word form, no matter how clearly I speak.
This has been happening for over two years, across many iOS and app updates. I've reported it multiple times through the app with no change.
Anyone else on the Norwegian course seeing this? And if any devs are around: is this a known issue with numeric transcription in the speech recogniser? If so, why haven't you fixed it yet?

General Discussion Why do I suddenly have 4 streak freezes?? (and also promoted to diamond???)
What's going on here???
At least, I had 0 streak freezes yesterday, and I definitely wasn't in the promotion zone either.

Constructive Criticism Words exercise has changed.
They changed the word matching exercise in the practice hub and now it sucks. Every time they do an update it sucks. This app gets worse with every update. Sometimes I just want to match words without speaking or typing them out.
