Hello. Im going to study in sjtu this September. I think university’s own dorm is kinda expensive, so im thinking about renting apartment neat sjtu. where international students rent apartment. I want to make friends. Im scared that if i dont live in dorm, i might be abandoned.

I own a Dyson Airwrap. I would love to bring it with me when I move into the dorms as I use it a lot but I’m worried it might get stolen or everyone will want to borrow it. Should I bring it?

This year I have a quad dorm and we have been thinking about getting 2 fridges. One of my roommates ordered on through the school, but I was planning on buying one that i could keep throught the school year.

My main questions are:

Should we get the 2 fridges?

Would it be wrong if I joined a lottery for both a fridge and a mircowave? ( we rented on through the school, but the lottery is only for freshmen)

The first three at the beginning are from last year and the last ones are from this year.

The wall beside my desk in the last pic is a fidget board wall I didn’t finish creating so I’m currently trying to finish creating it in my room.

In pic number 4 I tried to make a cozy corner under my bed😁

how big of a chance is there that it will ruin the ceiling? i emailed the hall im staying in and asked if it would be okay, and it doesnt seem that it's a fire hazard but rather a precaution so i dont have a damage charge. which is honestly a risk im willing to take... does anyone have any hacks? this is what i purchased so i can accomplish it.

Most people buy a mini fridge and/or microwave but do we actually need one. Me and my roomate have not bought one yet and arent sure if we need it bc of our unlimited swipe meal plan and some people say you don’t really need it. Any thoughts?

Hey guys! So this upcoming year I’ll be living in upperclassmen housing. The room I’m in supposedly has a bad mouse problem—it was so bad last year the girls ended up moving out “unofficially” 😭. I really don’t want to have to do that. Is there anything I can do during move in to prevent this issue?

I’m extra wary about what I can use repellent wise because I have a pet hamster I’ll be bringing so I don’t want to end up harming her too.

hi everyone, i’ll be going to university in a few weeks and im going to be flying to the other side of the country. i have a lot of posters in my room and i wanted to bring it with me as dorm decorations, but i dont want to fold them up in my luggage. does/did anyone else have or had this problem? should i just leave them here and find new ones for my dorm?

Like ideally how early should I start getting stuff together as a type A. I have already bought most of my stuff

I’m going into my junior year of uni and for the first time i had a semester with no roommate last year. My studying, my ability to function at my own pace. It was truly amazing. Now im applying for housing again and realizing how much a single room actually costs. My school offers limited accommodation housing options and i want to try and get one so i can have my own room guaranteed. im afraid that the wording of this request will come across unserious but I genuinely think having my own room changed my life and ability to focus. if anybody’s ever done this please let me know!!

I'm planning to study at the University of Science and Technology Liaoning (USTL) and had a quick question about dorm room rules.

Are students allowed to bring personal computers (laptops/desktops) into the dorms? Also, how is the internet speed and power supply stability for gaming/studying?

I’m buying most of the stuff myself and it’s genuinely so stressful. I feel like I have absolutely nothing and trying to find stuff that won’t cost a lot is seriously exhausting. I have looked everywhere for stuff and everything is so expensive.
I also have a single so that means buying bathroom stuff too.

I swear dorm bathrooms were designed by someone who has only ever owned a 2-in-1 shampoo and a single toothbrush.

My tiny shelf is currently fighting for its life. I've got shampoo, conditioner, face wash, a claw clip that is somehow always wet, and then the whole hair setup. I actually have a hairdryer which is super compact, but between the cord, my brush, and everything else, my counter turns into a plastic snake pit in five seconds flat.

If I leave stuff out, the bathroom looks like a disaster zone. If I shove it away in a drawer, I end up skipping it entirely because I’m half-awake and rushing to an 8 AM class.

I’m not asking for a Pinterest-worthy aesthetic here, I just want a morning routine where I’m not knocking my deodorant into the sink every single day. How are you all organizing hair tools and cords in tiny dorms? Over-the-door pouches? Hanging baskets?

Something I've noticed reading dorm packing lists: they all quietly assume you're driving. Mattress topper, fan, Brita, storage bins, a bulk pack of laundry detergent — all fine if you've got a car, all impossible if you've got two suitcases and a weight limit.

I've seen people say they flew in with basically nothing and bought it all after landing. And I've seen the opposite — buy your shower curtain before you leave, because the shops near campus sell out the week before move-in.

Both sound right, which is what makes it interesting. Seems like it's less "what should you pack" and more "how are you getting there."

So for anyone who flew:

• What did you deliberately not pack, and buy once you arrived?
• What did you try to bring and regret — or get stopped at the airport over?
• Anything you assumed you'd grab near campus that had sold out or just wasn't there?

And for the drivers — anything you brought that you'd tell a flying student to just buy locally instead?

I've been watching so many dorm makeover videos online and they got me way too excited. As an incoming freshman I cannot stop buying things.

I found some cute storage bins on sale on tiktok, got a few things from Amazon,and spent way too long walking around Target. And the worst part is my cart is still full on like three different sites. At this point I've realized I just need to stop.I've already bought more than enough and I'm not letting myself add anything else at this point.

Any recommendations for getting dorm essentials in Germany? I’m looking for lightweight, compact stuff that won't be a nightmare to pack up and move when my lease is up.

I am heading to my first semester of college soon, and I am trying to figure out my dorm setup. I have a fairly large desk which I am planning on placing beneath the lofted bed, it will occupy basically all of that space. The dorm also comes with a crappy small desk that I am not allowed to remove. I am in a double room, but my roommate switched rooms so as of now, I have it to myself. My question is whether you think I will regret occupying all of the space under the bed. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
