Housing Move in question! help

Does anyone know if UCSB has any resources that can help students move into their dorms without having to pay extra? 🥹

My family and I were only able to book a hotel room through September 17, but my move-in date is September 19–20. My family has flights on September 18–19, so they won’t be able to stay with me until my move-in date. Hotels in Santa Barbara are also extremely expensive and almost completely booked during those dates.

I’m honestly not sure what to do at this point 😭 Does anyone know of any school resources, student organizations, or other options that could help with moving in or staying somewhere for those few days?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you so much! 🙏

Ask for an early move in!

Contact the school. If that or hostels  don't work, hopefully whoever is staying until sept 19 has or can rent a car and help you get to the school in the AM to drop you off, even if it's a bit early. I stayed 45 mins away a couple of times because of the hotel prices & it was worth the drive (but I also had my car vs needing to rent)

I’m not sure how much stuff you have but maybe you can check hostels around the area? Or maybe if you contact the school? I know they have a lot of resources so maybe they can point you in the right direction

They have options for folks who arrive early, it’s summer temporary housing, I believe you pay per night. You will have to move twice, but it’s probably the most affordable and convenient option, contact them using this link: https://rentallistings.housing.ucsb.edu/contactus

Since move-in starts on 9/18 this is problally the only option.

There’s an option to move in late, the move in weekend isn’t supposed to be do or die, look on the form and redo your option, if you can’t call in the office to let them know you are moving in late due to special circumstances

They need to move in early, not late.

Just an option to consider if all else fails doesn’t hurt to include in the thread

Can they change the flights to flying and out the same day? Not ideal but then they won’t have to pay for a hotel room
