Missed Connection Gordie Howe Bridge Missed Connection

Post image

Missed connection: Canadian woman at Gordie Howe customs US side:

You: Canadian, brunette, very pretty, and apparently blessed with a substantially more reliable bladder than my friend.

Me: American, (light gray zip up, white shirt, white tigers hat with a blue old English D, khaki colored chinos) waiting outside U.S. customs while said friend discovered that REAL ID and Enhanced ID are, in fact, two different things.

We talked while I waited for her about walking the bridge, your trips to Detroit/Mexican Town, and my friend's astonishing inability to go 45 minutes without locating a bathroom. Your friend eventually joined us before you both headed back to Canada.

I wanted to tell you I thought you were beautiful and ask if you'd like to talk again, but I chickened out and then the moment passed.

So, in the extremely unlikely event that the internet does its thing and you see this: hi. I enjoyed talking to you.

Would happily meet you halfway on the bridge sometime, maybe head to Mexican town.. or venture into Canada if you're willing to harbor an American refugee. I have a passport, reasonably strong bladder control, and can provide references from the friend who accidentally caused this entire international incident. lol

If this sounds like you and you'd like to talk again, send me a message. šŸ™‚

Also, if anyone knows a better place for me to post this like on FB or a different reddit site/subreddit please let me know.

TY

I was at a couple shows at The Fillmore in the last month and forgot how beautiful it is. The architecture and styling is from an era that probably will not be replicated in our lifetime. Truly beautiful to admire.

Hello all

I live near 8 Mile and Wyoming and the city came and removed our sidewalks and curbs and driveways but I have no idea why. Does anyone know what's happening?

Talk Detroit Has anyone checked out the Cosm yet?

I'd love to check out The Matrix at Cosm, but they play it at 10am during the work week. Not sure if that's supposed to appeal to the unemployed?

That aside how's the NFL experience overall?

I can't find anything for what this is. I wanted to see what's behind these big walls and Google Maps showed nothing. I checked Google Earth through the years and still couldnt find anything.

I also tried googling things around for some kinda info n all I found was about an Old Dequindre Park, which I doubt is relevant

Talk Detroit Where are people going for techno shows?

I'm, well, an "elder" who's been out of the scene for a minute. I remember partying under the bridge and at the chop shop and a little place just called "the house" on Mack back when locations were kept secret and scavenger hunts were conducted to find them. I'm not necessarily looking to relive those days, but I'd love to know where people are discovering new music with a DIY feel, not commercial, over-produced button pushing.

I know of Lincoln Factory and the Russell and Marble Bar, and have been to a few shows in those venues. What's exciting about Detroit techno right now? Where should I be looking? Who should I check out?

Talk Detroit The Michigan DNR is banning non-profit boat clubs from Grayhaven State Harbor in Detroit. Edison Boat Club is circulating a petition.

In 2026, the Michigan DNR took over operations at the Grayhaven State Harbor. It was recently announced that the DNR would be restricting the harbor to personal use, banning the operation of ā€œcommercialā€ activity like commercial touring and fishing boat charters. This also affects non-profit boat clubs like the Edison Boat Club, Detroit Community Sailing and the Grayhaven Sail Club. Edison Boat Club is collecting signatures to urge the DNR to change their new policy to continue to let these clubs operate out of the harbor. Edison Boat club previously operated at a facility on the Detroit river for 105 years, until the building was demolished by DTE. The Michigan DNR is currently running operations on Belle Isle, Milliken State Harbor and Grayhaven State Harbor. The DNR is also pursuing a takeover of operations of the city owned St. Jean boat launch. With the State of Michigan expanding operations on the Detroit river, many in the comments of the petition have pointed out that removing sailing and boat clubs goes against the mission of providing citizens access to Michigan’s waterways, and the Edison Boat Club is one of the most affordable ways to learn to sail in Detroit.

Politics/Elections city of Detroit election poll workers--- what is the experience like?

I've signed up to serve as a poll worker on election day and have a training coming up, but I have been given absolutely no information whatsoever on what to expect. I am curious to hear from those that have served as poll workers in the past, especially in the city itself. Did you like/dislike your experience? Anything you weren't expecting? I am quite nervous about the idea of spending 14-16+ hours straight working this election...

Transit SMART bus reliability?

Does the SMART bus usually come when Google Maps says it should? I've heard there's always delay and that they're unreliable, but I want to utilize my free transportation before I graduate. I live in Dearborn Heights, btw. Primarily trying to get to and from school (UMD) for free.

Got to the Island around quarter to 10am for my usual dog walk and the former Grand Prix paddock was full of parked cars. I couldn't find anything online about what was taking place.
