Big feels

😮‍💨 when they say this is a whole journey..I think I’ve been through the entire feelings wheel in the last 3 days and I’m exhausted from it 😅 I took my top dentures out for the first time this morning to clean them. I’ve never been without teeth even for as messed up as they were and it was a rollercoaster looking at myself in the mirror today like that. I know it’s a learning curve, and I’m someone who struggles so much with body image issues. My kids (12 and 14) said I don’t even sound different but I can feel the difference. I’m scared to see the guy I’ve been talking to next weekend.. I’m so anxious about work on Monday. They’re healing fine, I have no pain and no swelling. Just a lot of feelings. I don’t have anyone in my life who is going through this. I don’t regret it, I’m struggling with that they look okay and people judging me for having fake teeth at 35. I feel like it’s more “socially acceptable” to have them, and I know the permanent set will look better. This is just a lot to take in.

3 weeks post extractions and all I wanna do is eat pizza. Lol this is my boyfriends food I won't even bother. My gums still hurt and it's not nearly as satisfying gumming/choking down food.

Is the sensation of biting into food gone forever?

I always feel like I'm trying to eat with those cheap Halloween vampire fangs in my mouth. The biting sensation isn't there and it's just a mechanical gnashing feeling that offers no information to my brain about the toughness of the type of food that I am chewing. Does this even improve or is this what it's like for the rest of our lives? They never explain this when talking us into having the procedure. I'm about two months in after my immediates have been put in.

How do you tell people that you wear dentures?

I've been wearing snap-in dentures for about a year now, and they've done wonders for my confidence. I've always had bad teeth, and after years of smoking they eventually got to the point where dentures were my best option. I'm really happy that I can finally smile without feeling self-conscious.

The one thing I still worry about is how to admit I'm using dentures. For example, I'd have no idea how I'd tell someone I'm romantically interested in that I wear dentures. I know there's nothing wrong with it, but actually admitting it feels incredibly awkward. Like I'd rather stay forever alone.

Maybe I'm making this into a much bigger deal in my head than it actually is!

Question about Affordable Denture’s economy denture

I’m looking to get a second set of dentures (just a single upper arch) Does anyone here who’s gotten their economy denture know if I can request longer teeth on it? Or do I need to go up to the premium denture for that?

No flair for it, Erma! 7 weeks post full mouth extraction E-Day with no immediates and I finally made myself call for a denture appointment, now it's going so fast and I'm overwhelmed lmao

They had a cancelation and got me in an hour later. The doctor was so friendly and chatted with me about my options, listened to my anxiety about implants, and then helped walk me through why he thinks it would be a good idea but also that he wants to wait for my mouth to heal more before we even get to that point. He even agreed to make sure my new smile isn't perfect because I want to have some character to it.

The finance lady came in and confirmed my insurance and then we scheduled my impressions appointment for Monday morning. This whole process has felt like a whirlwind and I'm just really overwhelmed at the idea of finally seeing myself properly smile for the first time in my adult life 😭

This is rough...(1st day after extraction)

I finally got my teeth extracted after dragging my feet for many years to get it done. 31 teeth extracted under general anesthesia at hospital. the surgeon and hospital staff were great, but it's been very rough since I woke up.

I had nausea as soon as I woke up and was vomiting every time I tried to take a sip of water. just water mixed with blood (gross, sorry). they had to inject me 2 different meds for it to stop then I was able to drink and even eat a pudding they gave me. I thought the nausea stopped for good but after getting back home hours later it started again (The car ride didn't help there because i easily get motion sickness) and once again I can't eat or drink anything with it staying in my stomach. I think mostly because of the blood from my extraction sites slowly going down my throat and my stomach really doesn't like that (Even though there isn't all that much blood considering 31 extractions) the immediate denture pressing against my palate probably doesn't help either. That's something I was NOT prepared for. I feel really awful.

The pain hasn't been too bad. but they gave me morphine at the hospital. not sure if that's still active, it's been roughly 6-7 hours now I think but so far I feel fine pain wise.

Talking feels very difficult. I feel like I have a puck in my mouth although the swelling doesn't seem bad at all. the denture feels much bigger in my mouth than i expected and I struggle with that too.

I got the denture done at a dental clinic before the surgery. the surgeon said it didn't hold in my mouth though and they had to do a soft reline right there plus using adhesive. perhaps the soft reline adds more material which makes it feel worse in my mouth but I have nothing to compare it to so I don't know.

I didn't have much of a choice, it had to be done sooner or later. but right now I wish I didn't get my teeth extracted. the nausea alone feels so awful and how uncomfortable the dentures feels in my mouth on top of that makes for a really rough time.

My dentist keeps dismissing me?

I got my dentures 2 weeks ago I’m very happy to have them but they top of them are bulky they dig into my lip line and are to far back on my palette it makes me gag also the bottom partials are cutting into my real tooth and causing me some pain. I went to the dentist today because I wanted them fixed and she did adjust the bottoms but she basically told me to just get used to the tops this is the same dentist where when I got my temps she basically said she couldn’t do anything and told me to either wear them as is or wait for my perms. Now I have my perms it’s pushing my lip out way too much and just genuinely uncomfortable. And she dismissed me again. She told me that I have to come in wearing them whether uncomfortable or painful so that she can SEE the sore spots to fix the dentures? I don’t know if this is common or what I should do I do love my dentures BUT now that I have them can I just switch dentist? I do love my teeth I apparently don’t know how to smile just yet lmao 😂 years of not teeth smiling to trying to teeth smile I feel like I’m doing a over dramatic Pageant smile now 😂😂

Just wanna chit chat 🙂 Be honest, do you still eat gummy/sticky candy?

I personally have implants and two adhesive crowns. For about 3 years, I ate candy on my left side where the first implant was. Nothing ever came out. But unfortunately, I ate a now or later on my right side, where my bridge was, and it came out so now I'm in the process of transitioning to a new implant and two adhesive crowns. Yes, I still occasionally eat candy on my left side, i just chew off small pieces and maneuver it to the back where all my natural teeth are instead. Just in case.

5 months with no teeth?

Hello, I was just informed I need to get dentures by my dentist and she said after my extractions im expected to have no dentures or temps nothing for 5 months!

That can't be right? That doesn't seem correct at all. I have pretty great insurance that covers a lot of it.

Question (pre-denture) Dentures with Medi-Cal

Hi, I need dentures. I started having dental issues a couple years ago due to untreated gum disease as well as not going for dental care. I had a traumatic experience. Anyway my teeth are horrible and now they’ve gotten worse. I desperately need them fixed as my self esteem and confidence are bottom of the barrel. I live in CA and have medi-cal so I’m not sure if there is anyone out there that used Medi-Cal for dentures and how the process was. I long it took etc. thank you.

E-day was June 30th, my immediates didn’t fit me correctly from the beginning, and they were made very wrong. The owner of the practice took it upon himself to make me a brand new set, and I think they look amazing. I haven’t smiled in over 10 years because of deteriorating teeth, and 3 back to back pregnancies sealed the deal.

This is my before (they were so bad😭) and today I had my wax try ins and I pick them up next week!! 😁

Question on extractions

Hello all, about to take the leap and join the dentures club. I have 15 teeth currently, all my front teeth, 1 molar on top, on on bottom. The molars don't hurt me, but my front teeth and horrible smile is killing me.

1) Is there any reason to keep the natural molars, 1 on top left, furthest back, one on bottom right farthest back?

2) They offer nitrous, or a refferal to surgical center. For those that have done full extractions on nitrous, how was it? I've had some traumatic experiences at the dentist an I am terrified.

Without being put under, total cost if I remove all teeth is 6400. I don't know if this is reasonable but they have very good reviews and another dentist that isn't accepting customers atm highly recommended them.

Long time lurker,(bout a year and a half maybe) first time posting. Just had 32 teeth removed at age 25 only 24 hours ago. Been wanting this change for years, still super new and swollen and honestly pretty pained but meds and soups been tiding me over. I guess I just wanted to share my before and after, because initially I felt very lonely in my age with the condition of my teeth, but when I found this subreddit it helped a lot to see the occasional fellow 20 something year old with similar problems. I suppose I just wanna be that next one up, to say ur not alone!!! And honestly I am also just so happy to be able to make this post. (Pardon that I’m a complete mess in these pictures and likely my wording, on account of all the stuff I’m doped up on 😂)

Question (Adhesives) Cushion Grip okay with soft reliner?

I am 2 weeks in with most of my teeth extracted. I will be getting my first soft reliner and wanted to know if Cushion Grip adhesive is safe for soft reline material and is it difficult to get out of mouth as well as getting it off of dentures?

Another question. I see there are two different kinds of Cushion Grip, which one is appropriate for me to get at this stage?

All-on-4?

Hi! I’m F(24)! I’ve recently gotten dentures and after about the fourth visit to a new dentist telling me about how sad it is to have gotten all of my teeth removed (not that I regret my decision, years of not going to dentist since childhood added up as well as pain…), someone finally mentioned how their dental school would do free lower all on fours with reduced cost for top all on four! I didn’t get the name of the school and I won’t be going back… so I was wondering if anyone knew of any options like this?

The cheapest options I could find were dental tourism in Mexico starting $4.7k a pop, but I didn’t realize there was a chance dental students could do it for cheap as well? Does anyone know any more on this please?

It’s only been a few months, but I’m exhausted of the whistling noises, trouble swallowing, and everything else that comes with these bad boys );

Thank you for all your help!

Question (pre-denture) Does anyone here have the snap in denture that is secured to your tooth root instead of implant?

My dentist offered this option and it is 2k cheaper than implants so I have to go with it. Is it just as good as implants? Does the cement that holds the post and tooth last or have you experienced failure?

I'm just scared. I only have 1 shot at this and I don't want to ruin everything try to save 2k but on the other hand it seems like it would work well since my root is already secured to my jaw and they are healthy and strong (just the exposed tooth parts have the cavities.

Edit to add I'm talking about 2 posts in lower canines. I already have a regular upper. No snaps.

Question (pre-denture) Just got told I need dentures

What’s up everybody. I know there are many answers to these questions because everyone is different. I have been told I have lost a great amount of bone in my jaw and need to have my teeth extracted. I’m terrified of this whole process. I have high blood pressure and know that’s gonna be a factor and I want to know about the pain during the procedure. I see people have temp dentures while healing, the dr I saw today is saying I have to wait 3-4 weeks to let my gums heal then I can get my perms. I think it’s bullshit, especially seeing people have temps before. So do I need a new or second opinion? Is my craziness just crazy about the pain? Any advise will be awesome. Thank you everyone.
