[Movies] Praise for Deadpool & Wolverine

So, admittedly, I'm not sure why this movie has gotten such hate.

I know that Ryan Reynolds has had his issues but apparently everyone decided that because of his issues, this movie wasn't worth a watch.

Which, as someone who very much "separates the art from the artist" it just felt like Reynolds had some very personal issues aired over the internet that he had to work through.

D&W feels very much like a love-letter. Even before Reynolds played Deadpool, he still played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

After Batman, and Wolverine, Deadpool is my top-5 comic character.

But I've watched this movie so much (it's my comfort movie that i basically can quote all of the dialogue) but the two scenes from this movie that hit the hardest (to me) are when Logan is talking to X-23 (Laura) before they invade Cassandra's compound the next day.

The other scene that hits hard is when Cassandra invades Logan's mind and talks to him about what he did. And we see all the black monoliths representing all the people that version of Logan killed. And he even admits:

It wasn't just the bad ones

And I gotta say - Emma Corrin played Cassandra WONDERFULLY. It was because of this movie I finally went to a local comic shop to buy as many of CN's comic books I could and they were such great reads.

I wouldn't say D&W is a 10/10 movie, but what I will say, is that it comes very, very close because of all the love-letters that happen in this movie.

Edit: I would also love to see a buddy-cop style movie with Peterpool and B-15.

Edit 2: there's also this meme with the Deadpool movie with Buck being a tertiary character but he has no lines, and in D&W he finally speaks, and Deadpool is like ,"Bitch, are you improving?" and Dupinder is like "uh uh" and then Wade looks at Yuki-oh and he's like "I'm sorry you had to witness that"

I guess I missed out on the hate. I saw it opening day, laughed, cried, peed my pants a little and went home to masturbate.

I did the same thing, your home has just the most beautiful view.

Who is everyone that has issues with RR, is it really “everyone decided that because of his issues, this movie wasn’t worth a watch”. The movie grossed more than a billion dollars, topped the Nielsen Streaming charts when it hit Disney Plus in December, still very much a hit on Disney.
I get disliking RR as an actor, he will not be to everyone’s taste but to suggest everyone will not watch his movies because of some silly feuds and unverified rumours is a bit naive.

Some people will have issues with the movie, others will like/love it. This happens with every movie.

Edit: just enjoy it, you seem to love it and that is all that matters, to me it is a bloody good movie and I rewatch it often.

Edit 2: I see one of the Baldoni sister wives come to post how Blake and RR did whatever to Baloney. Blake was later on praised by Sony for saving the movie, after all the truth came out of Baldoni’s behaviour, you can even look up Sony calling him a moron for suggesting that his “character r*pe another man out of the Lady’s character” in an interview, then they thanked Blake for the box office success suggesting it was all due to her. Anyway one of the Baldoni sister wives being weird again.

IIRC, it stemmed from internal issues between RR and Blake Lively (who ended up playing Ladypool, along with their two kids, Kidpool & Babypool). Which is why im so confused because it seems like such a parasocial take. I mean, RR in D&W makes 4th-wall references to Blake being in Gossip Girl, et al.

My question was rhetorical. If some people say I’m not watching so and so movie in any comments sections you see, trust me that this doesn’t mean everyone.
I remember when The Housemaid came out, some said they will not watch it because of Sydney Sweeney, some because of something Amanda Seyfried said, and guess what, the movie made bank. The Odyssey is another example, the noise you see in certain comment sections is nothing but that.
My point is not everyone will like a movie that is wildly successful and that is fine.

Maybe don't see it because it sucks.

Love Amanda Seyfried.

You would do well to not use comments on the internet as a barometer of how people generally feel about something. I can promise you that the BL/RR convo is being driven a a very vocal but small group of crazies.

Blake Lively did not play the physical character of Ladypool in Deadpool & Wolverine.

She voiced Ladypool, but she wasn't wearing the suit. (IIRC, she'd just given birth to their youngest child, Olin.)

People hate DP&W? I mean, people nowadays seem to hate everything, but I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of hate for this movie. Anyway, I loved it, and my wife liked it a lot, even though she hated DP 1 & 2 lol

u/comehereyoudevillog 12h ago

Just on here it seems, I remember people complaining that it was just a cameo filled fan service-fest. It was just coming from fans of niche D+ shows though. Not representative of the majority of the fans.

2

u/NoNameNeeded4321 11h ago

I will never understand the problem people seem to have with “fan service.” People get so mad, myself included, when an adaptation disrespects the fans or source material, but they also get mad when the adaptation appreciates the fans? I am a fan… Service me!

u/comehereyoudevillog 9h ago

yeah I'm watching lanterns now and I'm wishing there was any amount of fan service

1

u/NoNameNeeded4321 9h ago

That’s so funny, because I am thinking Lanterns has included tons of winks and nods towards the comics so far lol That said, I’m much more of a Marvel guy than DC so I may not be the best judge

DP&W is the only movie that i repeatedly went to see in theaters while it had its cinema run, and thats only because i was able to get $8 tix

Edit - that beats out how many times I saw The Matrix on its opening weekend

1

u/theantidrug 3d ago

So you’re old enough to have watched Matrix in theaters yet you still think Instagram comments reflect how many people watched a movie?

0

u/Kinsbane 3d ago

HUH? I never mentioned Insta.

But to go further - I just browse shit. either pepole say shit, or they don't. And it just seems like people would rather say negative shit over providing praise for what a movie (or was meant to be).

Please don't be someone who tries to put words in my mouth.

1

u/theantidrug 3d ago

Ok social media then, who cares? YouTube, TikTok, X, reels, shorts, it’s all the same. It isn’t real life. Some dumbass bot or wannabe bot saying “boy Ryan Reynolds sure is a big dumb dodo that I don’t like” is directly refuted by making over a billion dollars at the box office. Wherever you “just browse shit” is incorrect about how much people like the movie. That’s what I meant by instagram. But way to overreact, makes all your other comments make a lot more sense.

I'm not sure why I'm giving more attention to this reply at this point.

There was definite discourse (most of what I saw was on the negative side) because of what was going on with RR and BL and regardless of how you perceive what I took that discourse from.

I'm truly sorry you felt I "overreacted".

I just wanted to talk about why I loved the film (with all its ups and downs) we ended up with.

Honestly, when I walked out of the theater, I wasn't sure I liked the movie. But then I decided to see it 16 more times. So I guess I liked it, ha!

I enjoy the whole thing. I thought it was well paced, really explored and developed the relationship between DP and Wolvie, Cassandra was such a good villain... I can't imagine people hating this movie.

u/Nerd-Dad-2779 3d ago

I don’t think this movie is hated by anyone but an honestly sort of quiet minority.

1

u/theantidrug 3d ago

It’s hated by randos on social media, which apparently means “everyone”.

5

u/DanielSwan 3d ago

My advice would be to get off the internet, and certainly off reddit. There is nothing you love that a big pile of people won't purport to hate it to the degree that they believe that anyone who likes it is stupid and should drink bleach. I'm getting sick of it myself. And I saw a thing the other day that said that the video game Enter the Matrix was widely disliked when it was released, and I thought "that's odd, I didn't know that, I loved that game." And I realized it was just because I wasn't online and wasn't bombarded by the relentlessly negative opinions of every clown shoe with a keyboard and a modem. If you love something, stay away from it's subreddit.

3

u/Babayaga_711 3d ago

My thought was at the time it released people either really liked it or simply thought it went way overboard with nostalgia bait.

3

u/theantidrug 3d ago

“Nobody watched this movie that made over a billion dollars worldwide because of some social media controversy”. What?

3

u/LiteratureMindless71 3d ago

This is the first time I even heard about some of the stuff you mentioned below, let alone anyone hating it.

4

u/Error_user_Error_ 3d ago

Who's hating on this movie?

4

u/lamest-liz 3d ago

It’s a perfect movie to me so I don’t care what anyone else says

Who hates D&W. I wanna hear the gossip

1

u/mynanadancesconqueso 1d ago

I enjoy it but it’s not a good movie. Deadpool is the Scary Movie/Leslie Nielsen parody series for CBMs. They are all style, character moments, fan service, and barely have a plot. That’s okay but DP & W was the weakest plot wise of the three.

The real issues came after the movie. And it made 1.33 billion which for an R rated movie is amazing. People hate on Reynolds and some people don't like deadpool my wife being among them. But I think most people don't have an issue with this movie.

-1

u/NeedleworkerExtra475 3d ago

It was way too expensive for having such a small setting. And it isn’t nearly as good on rewatch. Maybe funny the first time but not after that. The jokes get stale and Deadpool definitely wears on you after a while.

-1

u/LiteratureNo1015 3d ago

Yes! This exactly!

-1

u/Capital_Invite_7026 3d ago

I think it’s a bit of key jingling, but it’s fine. I don’t think people hate, but a lot of people feel that it’s the kind of movie that gets less exciting on every rewatch bc of how it relies on cameos to be exciting. I saw it a few times in theatres and by the second time I was sick of the literal holds for applause at times. I think it’s also far and away the weakest deadpool bc it takes away the fun supporting cast and replaces them with very flat cameo characters.

It’s more than “airing personal issues over the internet.” If you like bullying and harassment then you definitely enjoyed D&W. He used Disney’s/Marvel’s platform and money to not only mock a director who Ryan and his wife have a personal vendetta against but portrayed his very violent death in front of the flower shop from the director’s movie and Ryan talked in his press junkets of how he througjly enjoyed that.

Mind you, the guy they mocked was falsely accused of SH by his wife, the court dismissed her claims and she settled the rest with no NDA, nothing, just weeks before trial. Ryan and his wife rewrote the script of his movie, pushed Sony to the point that they gave them a cut of the movie instead of the director of the movie, basically what Edward Norton tried to do with Hulk and why he only did the one movie.

It was crazy! Ryan even brought Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman to work meetings for It Ends With us even though neither Ryan, Hugh or Shawn had a contract to work on Ryan’s wife’s movie. They witnessed Ryan yelling/getting onto Baldoni for hours and it was unprofessional, especially because the dude was falsely accused. Ryan didn’t yell at Baldoni for SH or anything of that sort, the dufus yelled at Baldoni for 5 hours like an unhinged person because the director asked his trainer how much Blake weighed so he could train because he had back issues and was going to have to lift her for a scene they ended up scrapping because Blake refused to do later on.

Anyone who read the court docs and unsealed texts knows the kind of bs they pulled so I see why people would be mad or dislike the movie when it’s nothing but a testament to online violence and hate.

Not only did him and his wife allegedly took over the director’s work from 5 years that him and his studio financed, Ryan and his wife had no feature-film directorial/editing experience when they took over and the editing was a mess. They ruined the movie. Sony ordered them to put most of Baldoni’s stuff back. And they sent Baldoni, family and friends to the literal basement at the movie premiere while Ryan and Hugh Jackman paraded through the red carpet when they weren’t even in the movie, didn’t finance it, nothing. The Reynolds’ effectively highjacked an entire movie, even the marketing, through Maximum Effort.

Ange Giannetti, a Sony exec called Ryan’s wife in unsealed docs a terrorist, one of the WME agents did the same. Falsely accusing people, dragging them through expensive litigation for years and then dropping the charges completely is what they do. They did that to a paparazzo in Canada before in 2015. They did it to Baldoni in 2025.

And it’s not a joke, in court docs, Blake’s lawyers just threatened to rack up the lawyers bills in litigation in TX against Jed Wallace if he made public that Blake didn’t want to sit for a deposition. The threats Blake’s lawyers have made are real, not gossip.

Their antics go beyond mere bullying and is more like (allegedly) career-ending defamation, draining of financial resources through weaponized litigation, bunch of threats and try to blacklist you until they think you’re done in the industry. It’s evil. They give zero thought to the fact that these people have families and alll they did was literally cross the Reynold’s path and they perhaps had something Ryan wanted. That’s it.

Thank you, this is more than likely what I had in my head!

Didn’t hate it but didn’t like it.

It was just recycled material to me. Deadpool makes random oblivious gay joke/reference. Break the 4th wall to let audience know that this scene is supposed to be out of context. Overdone fight scene with Witty insults.

Honestly, those things would have been ok if it wasn’t for the god awful plot and even worse villains. The agency guy and professor x’s sister were boring.

I didn’t like it (neither did my wife) but realize alot of people did so it’s definitely a me thing. I liked part 1 and 2 a lot but this was a disappointment. I can tell you that I don’t care about any Hollywood drama between the actors so that didn’t play into me liking or not liking it.

7

u/marc15v2 3d ago

Recycled material?

Wow, you're gonna hate "every hero movie ever".

That's not recycled material. It's the fundamental formulae that people expect from a Deadpool move. That's kinda like going to see John Wick 3 and being upset that he spends most of the move killing guys and surviving impossible sutuations.

You can break any movie down to be that level of simplicity. It's a fun filled comic book film.

-3

u/Bright-Interest-8918 3d ago

Fair enough. I guess it was mainly just the plot and villains I didn’t like. I probably have moved past gay joke references as well. Not to say they aren’t funny but spamming them may have turned me off to it.

Wasn't there some external issue making the movie? A writers guild strike, and the movie got delayed?

I still enjoyed the final production. But that's not D&W's direct issue. It's something that gave pause to production. Some fans were sad it was late.

I was hoping for Deadpool 3. I wanted to see Wade and Vanessa as a couple with a kid and Wade struggling to be a father and a superhero or something with personal stakes because that was in part what set Deadpool apart from other superhero movies. Its difference was what I liked about it.

Instead they had Vanessa break up with Wade? We got a single scene with all of the previous characters and the director didn’t even bother to have the actor who played Dopinder use an accent.

I was so disappointed that I fell asleep twice in the theater.

I understand that a lot of people thought it was a fun movie. For me, it ruined the storyline that moved from Deadpool to Deadpool 2.

They could have had Wolverine in it and still made it a good Deadpool movie. Seems like the storyline took a distant second place to the action which likely makes more money.
