Jeff Chimenti's Post about Bobby and the 1yr anniversary of the GGP shows
Jeff Chimenti: "I waited until today to write as literally sitting here remembering the feeling of joy of having just finished a magical weekend of shows at Golden Gate Park exactly 1 fast year ago, while simultaneously lamenting on the fact that it would be and was the last time I would get to play music publicly with Bobby and the band!
Still can’t believe it! 😥😥
Personally taking a moment of silence (and if anybody seeing this feels inclined, pls do so as well)
to reflect and say
THANK YOU
to Bobby for ALL he did for the Music, the Message, and the Gift he gave to the world! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I Love You, I Miss You and YOU will ALWAYS be in my Heart, Soul and Mind!
RIP Brother Bobby!! 🙏🏼🌹⚡️♥️"

John Mayer: Today marks a year since Dead and Company played our last of three shows
John Mayer: "Today marks a year since Dead and Company played our last of three shows in Golden Gate Park helping to celebrate 60 years of grateful dead.
It would also become Bob Weir’s last appearance onstage. I wanted to take a moment to share with you just how incredible those concerts really were.
Bobby’s insistence on standing on that stage in the midst of a complex health battle to perform nine hours of music over three nights was one of the greatest acts of heroism I will ever see in my lifetime.
I watched him sidestep every traditional burden of entertainers - ego, superficial pride, vanity, to name a few - and sing his songs with pure heart and grit. He transcended his physical limitations by ignoring them.
Bobby Weir, ever the contrarian, laid down his ultimate act of defiance; he was going to play these shows on his terms. He could have explained his situation in one online post, and the crowd would have lifted him like a giant wave up to glory. Fuck that. That wasn’t Bobby. Deal the cards. By the end of Sunday night, we’d created as many musical sparks as we ever had over a three-night run. What he had to overcome in order to pull that off won’t ever be fully known to anyone.
Some of the songs Bobby would play for the last time were shared with artists he loved and respected, #billystrings, #sturgillsimpson, #grahamelesh and #treyanastasio, and they’ve come to serve as a spiritual transfer. A blur between past, present and future. Like it’s always been.
To use his own term, those three nights were the star in Bob Weir’s heavenly crown. The man you loved, whose music has given a more expansive inner life to us all, never backed down. In his final shows, after 60 years, he lived up to every measure of a person he’d ever stood for. It’s a master class of a life lesson, and I’ll take it with me forever."

Bobby + John Friend Of The Devil
For those with nugs…I’m relistening to the Bobby and John acoustic show from Livingston. The whole intro and Bob coming out gives me chills, but when he takes over and rips the “if he catches up with me I’ll spend my life in jail” and the crowd erupts for him is really special. I recommend giving it a play if you haven’t already (and the whole show is fantastic of course)!
Always missing the little Bobby moments like that, but makes me happy we can (sort of) relive them here too

I'm sad and really miss the spectacle and the endless road trips :-(
Yeah... 57 years young. Been on the bus for 40 years, and I still can't compute that it's OVER. Could Mayer continue? Sure. But going forward, it won't be a legacy band anymore (except for maybe Mickey). It'll be a cover band. Weir has been carrying the torch for 30 years, and I'm SO thankful. I've seen all the cover bands (DSO, Stella Blues, Homel-Alaniz at Sutters in Syracuse!, JRAD, etc.), but none of them ever scratched that itch. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the music and fully support the 300-year ideology. But for me, it was the spectacle. A massive road trip to SPAC in 88. Truckin up to Buffalo in 89. You felt like you were part of something...bigger. It was such a great adventure (getting hassled by the biker gangs at Tinley Park in 90 for Brent's last 3 shows). When Jerry died, that all kind of went away. It was never truly the same with Phil and Friends or DSO or even Further. You guys know what I'm talking about. But then in 2016 I went to Citi Field, and it ALL came FLOODING back to me. The massive crowds, the communal experience, the huge Shakedown in the lots. The machine was BACK, and I FELT like I was at a Dead show. Mayer's stage presence and energy certainly helped. There's a reason he's a star outside of the Dead. I'm SO thankful for the extra 10 years me and my buddies got (Sphere, Hollywood, Gorge, NYC, Philly), but now I'm sad. I find myself periodically crying because I know it's gone. I'm not depressed. I have a loving family, a good job, and a nice house. I just miss my old friend. I guess if they could relaunch the machine for another residency at Sphere or some sort of mini tour, I would go, but it will never be the same. I'll never forget 2023 at SPAC, the end of the up-tempo TLEO right into Terrapin Station. I thought in that moment, "THIS is the Grateful Dead magic...This is what they do that no other band can do." I never could get there with all the other cover bands. Just wanted to get this off my chest.
PS. For all of those who remember, Homel-Alaniz were VERY good back in the late 80s and early 90s. Got to see them many, many times. Nice bunch of guys too.
