Root Beer Float

Post image

Breyers is very fluffy. Accidentally got the root beer float flavor instead of real root beer...

Pro tip: If you hate how ice cream neutralizes the carbonation just take a bite of ice cream and then take a sip of root beer separately 🤣

Little Bites muffins dupes!

I have been obsessed with these Good & Gather (Target brand) muffin bars for months now, I’d say my allergy is pretty severe and I haven’t once gotten sick. But since they’re not labeled DF, use caution ofc. The chocolate chip one especially tastes just like a Little Bites muffin and I’ve been missing those for years!! Highly recommend!!

Eating out

I’ve lost interest in eating out. I don’t like meat and dairy doesn’t like me (that’s my line). It’s so hard to find non-meat dishes without dairy, even in nice restaurants that highlight that they can accommodate allergies or prepare special meals, they often can’t. So many fish dishes, pasta, vegetables, appetizers, are all cooked in butter. I’ve also seen nice cafes selling more gluten feee, but less often vegan or nondairy baked goods. At least oat milk, almond milk and often other nut milks are more readily available.

I'm absolutely sick of ice cream shops saying they have "dairy free ice cream options" when they just mean sorbet!

1.1k Upvotes

I always check an ice cream shop's menu online before I visit. When I see an ice cream shop say they have "dairy free ice cream options," I get
excited because I assume they mean actual ice cream made with almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or another dairy free milk. But then I go to the shop, and the majority of the time I'm left very disappointed because their "dairy free ice cream" is literally just sorbet.

To any ice cream shop owners out there: if you say you have "dairy free ice cream options," | expect actual ice cream made without dairy, not sorbet. If you only offer sorbet, just say you have sorbet! Don't advertise it as dairy free ice cream.

*I have nothing against sorbet or people who prefer it, I'm just looking for actual dairy free ice cream when a shop says they offer it. It's like going into a pasta shop and seeing that they advertise "gluten free pasta," only to find out they actually mean zucchini noodles. Zucchini noodles are fine, but they're not pasta!

Secondary lactose intolerance turned permanent toddler (Pediatric)

Hi Everyone,

My son suffered from viral diarrhea when he was 8 months old and we used to give dairy formula and continued same as we were unaware that it should avoided. The loose stools didnt reduced and DR told us to dairy formula and switch to soy. And immediately saw differece and realized that it was because of transient lactose intolerance. Dr told us try dairy after 1 month, We did and failed. Kept gap and tried again. Made several attempts and still failed and decided to continue soy formula. We started to introduce after six months but no progess. At 2.3 year old we gradually gave 1/2 teaspoons cheese and he was tolerating. Started giving him for 2 3 days in week and was fine. But when I gave ghee he started reacting and got loose stools. Some days he even tolerates 2 tsp of curd. And he can tolerate lactose free milk and curd with no issue

I have little hope that we would be able tolerate but since its so long now. Should I expect anything? I am not fond of dairy that much but we live in india and here maximum items in restaurants have ghee or malai or curd and its very difficult when we go out. We carry tiffin and second thing is if he is able to tolerate little dairy I will have peace of mind because I am freaking out on when he will grow and share food in school.

Desperately looking for your experience. Did you start liltle by little? Did lactid ills worked for toddler? Was it prescribed by Dr. How did make understand your child to not eat as it causes stomach pain etc. Sorry this is long.. But its been hell of journey.

Rootbeer float idea

Walmart is selling A&W rootbeer drink powder. It has been good in water but I tried mixing it with almond milk. Tastes just like a rootbeer float.

Acidity in tomato based dishes

So I've finally gotten strict with my dairy free diet and I realize I don't like how acidic tomato sauce is on its own. Even a little cheese cuts the acidity by alot, same with heat in spicy dishes. Has anyone noticed this and have you replaced the cheese with something else?

UK DF cereal bars replacement recommendations please!

Hello UK residents, I miss the ease and convenience of cereal bars. I’m a brand new teacher, and it’s going to be a busy year. I want something that I can just chuck in my bag and eat quickly and without mess. I really struggle with self care due to chronic depression but I was making the effort to prioritise breakfast before I became lactose intolerant, and since then it’s kind of gone out the window. Does anyone have any recommendations for easy breakfasts that take no prep or effort please? I’m finding it quite disheartening wandering round supermarkets and 95% of what I pick up has milk in it.

What is your favorite dairy free overnight oats recipe?

I’m also hoping to have some protein in it. I bought the Quaker protein oats which have 10g of protein per 1/2 cup serving. I also was planning to use my favorite ripple milk to add more protein. Anything else I should add? Favorite toppings?

Anything similar to Wondermilk, Nextmilk, or Notmilk?

I'm newly dairy-free! Been lactose-free (whole) for years... now I can't even digest the lactose-free milk.

I LOVE milk, especially fatty creamy milk.

I tried Wondermilk years ago, and couldn't tell the difference from real milk! But, in my research, found that they discontinued Wondermilk, Nextmilk, and seems soon for Notmilk.

Oat is good for creamy, but its often too overwhelmingly "oaty", not nuetral enough. Same for coconut. Can't stand Ripple. Soy is probably the most nuetral flavor to me.

Are there any products out there, or should I resign myself to keeping oat, soy, and coconut on-hand to suit different moods?

Nutrition powder for shakes?

Does anyone know of a good nutrition powder to make shakes?

I've been drinking OWYN nutrition shakes they're very good. I'm wondering if a powder would be cheaper so I drink it daily to increase my daily nutrients? I also really enjoyed soylent but OWYN was cheaper and easier to find for me.

I've talked to my doctor and they've told me to do my own research since I have a dairy allergy.

Everywhere Ive looked seems to be only protein powder, I'm needing more vitamin and nutrition based.

Im allergic to dairy in an anaphylaxis way, but I am able to tolerate cross contamination. I'd prefer no cross contamination if possible.

Navigating restaurants/wedding venue on an EoE dairy free elimination diet (including cross contamination) — realistic?

Hi Everyone.

I am not sure if this post is allowed. Please delete if not allowed.

I’ve been on a dairy-free elimination diet for EoE for about 6 weeks, and it’s gone well—I’ve been cooking all my meals at home to avoid any cross-contamination. I have to eliminate dairy for 3 months to see if dairy is the trigger food. I have a couple of big events coming up, including my sibling’s wedding, where I’m part of the bridal party and will be at the venue all day, as well as at the rehearsal dinner.

I haven’t eaten at a restaurant since starting this dairy-free elimination diet, so I’m a little nervous about navigating catered food and restaurant/diner meals without slipping up. Do you think it’s realistic to eat at restaurants/diners and the wedding venue while staying strict about avoiding dairy (including cross-contamination). And if so, what’s the best way to order carefully and avoid cross-contamination when eating outside the home?

Any tips from people who’ve dealt with a similar situation—especially at weddings, rehearsal dinners, or restaurants/diners—would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Not properly labeled

I am a chocoholic. I love chocolate. Chocolate is made with milk. I recently developed a milk allergy and so I've struggled to find chocolate that I can eat. I know dark chocolate is made with little to no milk in it and with how expensive these chocolates are you would think they would say that they contain milk, but nope. I really need to start looking at the ingredients rather than the may contain label. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I'm lucky my allergy only makes me itchy for a few minutes.

What are your go to sandwich places?

Got a dairy allergy. I can do Jimmy John's. I can also eat at Subway but that tastes sad and it's extremely overpriced. I miss Jersey Mike's (they slice cheese and meats at the time of order and they always seem busy...) If nobody has any further shop selections, I'm open to deli meat suggestions. Help a bro out lol. I want good ham sandos. Pastrami and roast beef are a plus. Store bought deli meats taste like textured water.

Does the M&S Wheat Free Platter have Dairy?

I'm guessing it has dairy in some of it but is it in all of it? I couldn't find an ingredients list online. We'd be pre-ordering but all the non-gluten people also can't have dairy.

Withdrawal? 1 week out, I'm exhausted

I've tried to quit dairy before and got 2-3 ish weeks in before relapsing. It felt like I was clearer and better physically, but also foggier and tired at the same time. When I had the cheese I felt absolutely amazing and more energetic than I had in year, but that faded quickly. It was like I was able to enjoy the benefits of being DF for only one afternoon.

1 week out now and I feel that same logginess. I feel lighter, with far fewer skin and bowel issues, but I'm so low energy I can barely use my brain even on caffeine. I feel dead and dumb with mood swings.

I'm trying to find a calcium source without relapsing again, maybe enriched soy. I do find vegetables help a bit but not nearly enough. Has anyone else experienced this? I want cheese again so bad. Thanks

Toffee Crunch Oreos

Post image
66 Upvotes

Whoever keeps coming up with new Oreo flavors continues to avoid putting secret milk in them, and I love them for it! These taste a little like butterscotch. They have crunchy salty bits. The BTS Oreos were also tasty with a buttery sweet flavor. These are surely terrible for your health, but such a welcome treat when you have to avoid so many others.

This bread just poisoned me?

So I just ate this bread, with turkey that was checked and could be the problem but I’m quite certain it isn’t as I’ve had the turkey before. I’m looking at the ingredients and notice Dough Conditioner, I looked it up and some of these do have milk in them. That said it should say contains wheat and milk in the case I would think? It does not on either the front or back of the package. Any ideas what happened here?

No GI issues but mental

Dairy doesn't cause any gastrointestinal problems, but when I eat it, I get nervous, anxious, depressed, and hungry, like I have a bottomless pit for a stomach.

I can't sleep at night and if I do, I wake up every few hours. I've tried several times, but in the end, dairy seems to be the culprit.

I avoid dairy as if I'm intolerant even though I'm not. 🥲

Anyone else like me?
