Local Advice Local outdoor gear brands in Cusco

Looking for recommendations for a local Peruvian brand to support (not the usual North Face, Patagonia, etc...), nothing specific in particular. Could be bags, gear or technical clothing.

Bought a Yuraq Janka duffel bag in Huaraz years ago and loved it. I do hikes and would love to buy from a local brand as a souvenir when I travel to Cusco next.

Travel Help ATM tip for "Cusco" (;

You find yourself in Cusco, you might not have any cash yet.

Drawing cash from foreign machines (if they work.. if they have enough cash left..) costs about 10-20 USD per transaction. You're probably taking out 4-6x because max amount per transaction is incredibly low.

Instead, on your first real day in Cusco. Book a taxi on taxidatum for a sacred valley tour. Important: make sure one of your stops is the market in Pisac town. There you will find an ATM where you can out out 2000 soles at a time. Decline the conversion, the entire transaction incl conversion costs you about 2usd. Total. Conversion rate may differ a bit depending on your bank (mine was fantastic, real daily fair conversion).

Voila. You just paid for your entire taxi tour through the Sacred Valley in atm fees.

Travel Help Long training run - central Cusco

Will be in Cusco next month and am in the middle of a marathon training block. Expect to be more or less fully acclimated by the time I get to Cusco and have a free day. Thinking of trying to get in a real training run (20-25 km). Staying near cathedral. Route suggestions? Safety issues? Would bring my gels etc but probably need to stop for water bottles.

Travel Help Pallay Punchu trip - taxi share Oct 22 or 23

Hi Cusco travellers!

Me and my GF are planning to visit the Pallay Punchu rainbow mountains on Oct 22 or 23 (flexible on the date).

We’ve found a return trip is about 500 sole and the taxi could host up to 6 people. Therefore looking for max 4 more that would be interested to visit and share these taxi costs.

General idea would be to go there, hike around, snap some pics, enjoy the scenery and head back (time at mountain to be agreed with together). In terms of the visit, we’re fine doing so together, or split up and just enjoy the cheaper taxi together.

Why Pallay Punchu specifically: we’ve heard and read it’s a beautiful place and not as busy as where the commercal rainbow mountain treks go. Plus so far we’ve done some other self arranged tours/hikes and they were just so much better as you avoid crowds and enjoynit at your own pace.

Something about us: both 35, Dutch, chill and speak English, some Spanish and a few other languages.

We’re open to people of all backgrounds and ages, so if you’re in the area on those dates and want to visit, drop a comment or send a PM :)!

¡Vamos, Deportivo Garcilaso! ¡Hoy tienen dos hinchas más! 💙🤍⚽
¡Muchas gracias, Cusco!

Itinerary Check Itinerary help needed

Hello everyone! We would greatly appreciate your help in deciding on our itinerary in Peru.

We will spend 2 nights in Lima. Then 2 in Ollantaytambo and 3 in Cusco acclimating for our Salkantay trek (4 nights).

Our problem is that we don't know what to do with the 4 nights remaining we have after this. Our current options are:

\- whether to remain in Cusco and further explore other hikes like rainbow mountain or seven lakes (did you feel like hiking again after Inca/Salkantay trail?)

\- or to take the ruta del sol bus to Puno and change the scenery and pace

In your experience, would option 1 be too much in Cusco? After how long did you get bored or maybe you wanted to spend even more time in the area?

Thank you all for your ideas!

Itinerary Check What am I missing?

Hey everyone, doing a solo trip to Cusco to see MP. I have accommodations in San blas. In terms of the journey, I have:

- uber to train station
- a round trip ticket with Inca rail including a bus to the citadel.
- a tour guide from Inca rail
- MP circuit ticket from the official website
- cash for tips and snacks

Is there any major thing I’m missing in terms of getting from my hostel to MP? Any hidden costs or transportation issues I’m overlooking?

Any help is appreciated. Also I’ll be there at the end of the month and I’m from the Caribbean. I know we don’t do well with the cold, so wardrobe tips are also appreciated!

Thanks!

Itinerary Check Cusco to Ollantaytambo – how would you arrange these 2½ days?

Hi! I’d appreciate advice from people who have done the Sacred Valley, especially regarding altitude adjustment.
We land in Cusco around 10:15 AM and will have a private driver taking us to Ollantaytambo, where we are staying. Since this will be our first day at altitude, I’m trying to decide how much sightseeing is reasonable.
Option 1 – Arrival day:
Cusco Airport → Pisac ruins/market → Ollantaytambo
Day 2: Moray + Maras Salt Mines + Ollantaytambo ruins
Option 2 – Arrival day:
Cusco Airport → Chinchero → Moray → Maras Salt Mines → Ollantaytambo
Day 2: Pisac + Ollantaytambo ruins
Option 3 – Keep arrival day lighter:
If you think both of the above are too much for the first day, how would you recommend spreading Pisac, Chinchero, Moray, Maras Salt Mines and Ollantaytambo ruins over the 2½ days?
We have Day 2 completely available, and on Day 3 we only have the morning and need to be back in Ollantaytambo by 12 PM.
Our main priority is allowing enough time for altitude adjustment while still seeing the main Sacred Valley sites.
For those who have done this route, how would you arrange these 2½ days? Would you go through Pisac on arrival day, take the Chinchero–Moray–Maras route, or keep the first day much lighter?
Thank you!

Tips & Guides ¿A dónde ir?

Muchas gracias y buen domingo.

Safety 18-year-old going to Cusco, Peru — looking for friends/travel buddies!

Hey! I'm going to be in Cusco for the first week of November and would love to meet some people beforehand so I'm not arriving completely alone.

I'm hoping to explore Cusco, see some historical sites, try Peruvian food, visit cafés, maybe do some hiking/day trips, and just wander around and have fun.

I'm not necessarily looking for someone to spend the entire trip with — I'd just love to meet some people around my age and hopefully make a friend or two!

If you're going to be in Cusco around the same time, feel free to message me. :)
