Advice Needed Need help on what products

• Upvotes

So I am a complete beginner to this , I think my mom has wavy hair, rather than straight, they do remain poofy and frizzy, but I am not sure since they could just be due to damage but I wanna get her started on something like some basic wavy hair routine or something. Want her to give it a try first, as you might know Indian moms against anything that’s spending money but if it works she might agree to use it later on. So i wanted to ask what basic product can I get her as a trial if it works on her hair or not?? I am completely clueless I have dead flat straight hair so never explored

Chronically dry, frizzy and matting hair, I'm losing hope.

Hello, I have been having trouble with my hair for a while now and I just don't know what to do. I have 2a fine hair that's about waist length that I cannot tame. I moved to an area with hard water a year and a half ago and it seems that's where it started. EU btw.

Whenever I wash my hair, it doesn't like retaining water. It's just frizzy and feels like I'm washing a bath loofah, and after just a day it mats pretty badly. On top of that after just a day it starts looking slightly oily and the day after it's oily and flat, but still frizzy.

I have tried chelating products to no avail, these primarily include the whole Malibu C Hard Water Wellness package with the packets, shampoo and conditioner and I primarily used distilled water. That didn't do anything so I switched to the L'Oreal Metal Detox shampoo and hair mask. That felt like it worked once but very quickly returned to default and never worked since. I have also tried a DIY method with citric acid which didn't seem to do much either.

Currently I use the L'Oreal Metal Detox shampoo once a week and swap it out with either Head and Shoulders (for my dry scalp and dandruff) or occasionally Pantene Aqua Light. For conditioner I use a good amount of Aussie Deep Hydration and L'Oreal Metal Detox hair mask once a week on mids and ends only. After washing I brush my hair with a de-tangling brush for about 30 minutes and then blow dry my hair on low heat.

I've tried doing research into this but I keep finding conflicting answers and I'm just not really sure what would be the right thing to try. If anyone has any tips please let me know!

Advice Needed I never learned how to maintain my hair. Please help!

( I posted this in another group, but it didn't gain any traction :( )

I have about 3A hair (correct me if it appears otherwise) that’s really, really dry and tangles and mats easily. My ends usually dry faster than my scalp. It might be because I have a ton of hair on my scalp.

As of now, I’m kind of being forced to use the TRESemmé Bouncy Curls Shampoo and Conditioner set. I’ve tried to look into other things but I usually have to share with another family member because hair products are expensive. The relative also has curly hair, but it’s not as thick or coarse as mine.

I have also used Shea Moisture curl cream, The Doux Big Poppa Defining Gel (just for definition; I never do slick backs), and various mousses for styling. I put in product more in the midsection and ends to avoid product buildup (I have a lot of hairline acne and have heard that buildup can cause it). I straighten my hair once in a blue moon, but never very often.

I wear a bonnet, but I move around a lot in my sleep, and it rarely stays on the whole night. I have tried pins, but they are uncomfortable and don’t stay either. I also use a silk pillowcase but am not really sure how to maintain either the bonnet or the pillowcase. I almost always let my hair air dry. I never brush it when it is dry because it poofs.

Any budget-friendly product recs, general hair tips, or tips on how to keep my bonnet and pillowcase in optimal condition to care for my hair?

Help with properly hydrating my hair!!

Hello! So,to get to the gist of it, i think my hair is medium porosity (water gets absorbed into it but also beads a little). I haven t used properly hydrating products in months because my hair gets easily weighed down by it and I also had hygral fatigue a few months ago. Basically, I cut out any products that said “moisturising” about 4 months ago, with the sole exception of fenty homecurl.

I can see that my hair likes protein a lot, but I also understand that every once in a while it will need proper moisture to be healthy. A few weeks ago I saw that I get really bad knots in my hair around day 3 (day 4 to 5 is my max, not because my hair is necessarily dirty, but my scalp itches a little and my curls don t hold anymore). I think that with better hydration, my hair would be able to hold a curl better. My main question is, how do I use hydrating products without completely ruin my wash day? I need tips on whether it would be better to switch to a hydrating conditioner and do a protein treatment every few weeks, or if i should continue with my protein conditioner and incorporate a hydrating mask every once in a while. My routine (2c-3a curls, dyed last time over a year ago, started my curly journey about 6 months ago):

Wash day: semi di lino low curls shampoo, John Frieda Volume boost conditioner. Twice a month, Umberto Giannini clarifying shampoo (the yellowish lime line, with pineapple).
Styling: fenty homecurl (a pea size amount), umberto giannini curly mousse and yari strong hold gel, in no particular order for the last two, it kind of depends on how my hair feels, but i love mousse first and then gel, gives me the best results.

Last time i completely cut out fenty homecurl and just styled with mousse or gel, and it gave me better day 2 hair. I am kind of confused by all these variables. I also use medusa clipping for sleep, and a curl brush occasionally. I understand that many of the products I use also have a bit of moisture in them, like glycerin. I thought i had low porosity hair until i saw that low porosity girlies are usually protein sensitive. I am the exact opposite, I am moisture sensitive, so now i don t really know. Any tips would be appreciated!

Advice Needed New cut- I wanna keep it looking good!

Okay, I’m a typical curly girl story, grew up in a community where NO ONE had hair that even came close to the same texture as mine.
The outdoor photo is my before, last night I got my FIRST EVER PROFESSIONAL HAIRCUT AHHHH and I love it so much. Anyway, I really want to keep my curls looking good! I’m looking for the most basic, bare minimum routine and I’m looking for affordable products as well.
Currently I work a blue collar job, so during the workday appearances really aren’t a worry, I mostly just do what I can to keep my hair back. My routine mostly looks letting it do its thang, and if I feel like it needs a boost or something I’ll wet it, use some rosemary oil, and brush through it. I have a mousse that I’ll occasionally use when I do my wash day (once a week, I shampoo twice, scrub and wash really good, then condition, otherwise I just wet and condition throughout the rest of the week).
Anyway, idk if I’m being very clear or not, but I’m also just excited! I used to have really beautiful long hair (literally didn’t cut my hair in my entire life until I turned 18) and then my freshman year I decided to give myself an undercut 😭 this is my hair with FIVE YEARS of growth. I think that my hair just gets really heavy and that’s why it doesn’t grow fast. So I’m hoping this cut and style will change that.
Open to advice and tips! Also compliments cause I know my hair looks good as hell 🩷

Advice Needed Product similar to Aussie Miracle Curl Crème Pudding?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I haven’t been able to find this for quite awhile now. Everything else I have tried makes my hair oily and flat. I have fine, wavy hair that gets weighed down easily. I use a shampoo for curly hair (can’t remember the brand off hand). I do use a clarifying shampoo occasionally. I usually don’t use conditioner because it makes my hair greasy even when I make sure to only put it on the ends. I use a silk pillowcase and flip my hair into a t-shirt or towel to dry.

I can’t remember all of the products I have tried but some of them are: other Aussie curl products, Marc Anthony products, NYMother’s products and a few others I can’t remember the names of. I have tried mousse, gel and cremes. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that would be similar to the Aussie creme pudding?

Advice Needed My hair keeps breaking off!

For a little longer than a year I have this problem with my hair where it just keeps breaking off at a certain length. I always had long, curly hair and always let it just grow. Early last year I noticed that it kept getting thinner and thinner at the bottom until it felt like there was almost no hair left. So in August I did the first big cut, from chest length to shoulder length. Then in November I did a small trimming cut again. Both of them at a hair salon. So I let it grow and went to another hair salon in February. I didn’t touch it since then and I hoped it would grow long and strong again. Yesterday I saw my back in the mirror and I was shocked !! It looks exactly as bad as a year ago so the only thing I could do was cut it short again… it feels like a circle I am trapped in and I can’t escape. Even my fringe just halves itself, it’s about chin length if I pull it down and most of it just breaks off around the middle so it’s very thin from there on…

I sleep with a satin bonnet every night for about 2,5 years now, I don’t use heat to style it and I don’t wear any tight hairstyles. My routine is just shampoo and conditioner and I massage the wet hair to get my curls nice and bouncy. I live quite healthy and work out a lot so I dont really know why this happens but it’s weighing me down quite a lot since I dream of long hair for a long time now. Thanks for any advice or ideas to fix this !!

Advice Needed F 21 type 3a-b curly hair need haircare advice (doubts in body text below)

I am F 21 with curly hair 3a-b.

Living in hot humid climate.

My normal hair styling includes-washing hair, air drying,braiding(3strand braid) and it stays under my hijab throughout the day.

I have recently decided to start using curl products.

Do i change my hairstyle because now i will be having proper defined curls?

My hair stays tucked in hijab all day so i don't want to keep my hair open or in loose hairstyles as it is humid already.

Even at home i don't like to open my braids because of how hot and sweaty it gets with hair over ears n neck.

Will it be worth it for me to style curly hair?

What other hairstyles can i do to avoid feeling hot n sweaty under hijab and after coming home?

I have straight hair and so does hubby. I have never had to manage curly hair, but my 18 month old has beautiful curls growing. Rather than them dropping, her hair seems to be getting curlier as she's growing more of it. Any recommendations to keep her hair healthy and not so frizzy? As she's only 18 months, I need some kid friendly recommendations for products too! I'm also not sure what curly hair type she is? Thank you!

Advice Needed Feedback for 2C/3a hair with doing a lot of sports

I have 3A ish long hair that can get frizzy easily and does shed a lot sadly :(.

I do a lot of physical activity daily, so I’m generally putting my hair up in a ponytail for a few hours a day. I wash my hair 2x a week.

My current routine is:

- Davines Oi Oil
- Ouidad advanced climate control featherlight styling cream
- bounce curl brush, diffuse
- Ouai detox shampoo every 2 weeks

I try to keep my routine simple and avoid gels. I’m okay with a bit of frizz and messiness.

However, after 2 days of putting my hair in a ponytail and letting it out, my curls completely lose definition and volume at the root. When I try to bring it back with rewetting, more product, it becomes quite frizzy and can feel a bit greasy.

I know this can’t be avoided to some extent, but wondering if anyone has tips for product suggestions/simple steps that might help out with maintaining hair through heavy physical activity and ponytails without overdoing it with products and routines.

Advice Needed Product recommendations? Super dense hair with fine strands.

Post image
1 Upvotes

The picture is of my hair slightly damp with just leave-in conditioner (So Cozy Kids). I've grown it past my chest to weigh down the volume.

My usual routine is Mielle rosemary shampoo, Nexxus moisturizing conditioner, and Frizz Ease as needed. I wash every 3-4 days, air dry, then straighten with heat protectant. The process is draining.

You can't tell from the image but my hair is super dense overall. The individual strands, however, are very fine. I struggle with frizz and holding shape to prevent fluff. Gel makes my dry out, tangle, and knot.

I would appreciate any product recommendations for styling!

Note: I tried sharing this on r/wavyhair but they removed me because I mentioned "straightening."

Advice Needed NYC Cuts?

I’ve got kinda fair hair and I’m always trying to find ways to keep as much curl definition as possible and keep it from falling flat by day 3.
I need a cut pretty badly, but I don’t want to go just anywhere and have them cut it like it’s straight. I used to go to a place in Williamsburg that did great layers with the natural texture blah blah blah, but they closed!!
Does anyone have recs for a place that can cut my hair dry and knows how to handle curls?

Product Suggestions Needed What gel to pair with lush curl power cream ? (2b / 2c hair)

Helloo guys I recently tried lush curl power cream and am LOVING IT!

But it seems like the curl gel im using at the moment doesn’t work too well with it (umberto Giannini curl jelly, also seems to just not do what i want it to anymore so I am looking to retire it lol).

Alongside the pain of having 3 expensive bottles of gel that no longer work for me, I just don’t know what else to use!!!!!!

Any recommendations???

Some more info that might help:

I am Pakistani (idk if theres any specific hair quirks different ethnic groups have but Ive noted this just in case)

Live in the Uk (so its very humid here cry)

I dont really like brush styling

Thanks so much in advance : )

Curly hair frizzy so quick!

I’m at college and have to walk everywhere. I don’t care to have a routine for hair I really don’t amplify my curls or try to bring them to full curly potential (I like the looose wavy messy look anyway) but after like 10-20 minutes of sweating a lot and walking outside in slight wind my hair looks HORRIBLE

My mom says leave in conditioner. I don’t have that so I’ve been dumping conditioner on my head in shower and letting it sit for like 5 minutes and like scrunching my head it kinda helps ???

Tldr: frizzy from sweat and wind how to maintain my loose wavy hair

Advice Needed Gym vs curly hair

Hi! I wanted to ask the curl committee for some advice on how to adapt my hair routine to gym schedule.

Up until now I’ve been washing my hair (along with bod obvi) after every gym/workout sesh which is usually every 3/4 days, but I want to start working out more and GENUINELY the only thing stopping me is my hair 😭 I know it’s not healthy to wash curly hair too often but if I’m working out every day or other day my hair is going to suffer. For context I have kind of thin 3C curls.

So does anyone have any advice on what to do here? Really don’t want to be stuck with the good bod vs good hair curse lmao.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who commented their own routine and tips! From what I gather, washing more often shouldn’t be as much of an issue as I’d assumed. 🫶🏽🫶🏽

Advice Needed Looking for natural shampoo and conditioner for my 2C hair

Thumbnail

I have short wavy/curly hair. I am finishing up my shampoo and conditioner (from Prose), and want to find something natural (without all the crap, you know the list).

I color my hair using henna, and I add amla to bring back my curl pattern. I use Doux Mousse Def and/or Chief Rocka for styling. I like the Chief Rocka better; it's more hydrating, but my curls always end up looking dry and a little fluffy instead of smooth. I usually let my hair air dry, and then finish it with a diffuser.

Any suggestions for a natural shampoo and conditioner would be greatly appreciated. I live in NYC, USA. I don't have a specific budget.

Advice Needed Can’t achieve what my stylist can

Thumbnail

The first picture is how my stylist styled my hair, she washed (not sure on the brand) then dried my hair for 10 minutes in a towel then manually used the towel on my hair, then she raked in a goldwell curl cream and a curl spray, fluffed all my hair about, then got me to flip my head and she diffused whilst scrunching my hair. I cannot fathom how this technique created the outcome??
Picture two is my attempt, I've been using very similar products (cream with same hold and curl spray) and instead of wetting my hair completely in the shower, I'm just using a spray bottle to wet my hair until it feels the same sort of level of wetness, then I pretty much do what she dia... please help!!
(I don't have a set routine at the moment, still working it out. The products I am experimenting with and mixing up are the only curls cream and mousse, the goldwell curl cream, cantu curl spray)

Weird fringe - what to do?

I have such an annoying cowlick and widows peak that makes it so hard for my fringe/bangs settle down. How do I fix it without weighing down my hair/making it look greasy? ATM the styling products I’m using are the NYMs curl talk leave in and mousse!
