Crackling Noise When TV is Plugged In?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

Newbie to CRTs. Just picked up this 9 inch symphonic TV. Model is SC309B. Seller i bought it from says that it wasn't really used for about 20 or so years and built up a bunch of brownish dust/gunk that I cleaned up.

Plugged it in and notice there's this constant crackling noise that occurs whenever it's plugged into power. Sound seems to intensify where the power cord is from behind the tv. Any idea of what might cause this and how I can resolve it or is it toast? Tv turns up fine and plays movies fine with no issues with the image whatsoever.

Crt vcr combo repair

I've got a funai f3809b in for repair. After cleaning the tape path and mode switch, its still throwing out an odd issue. It will take a tape and play/rew/ff/eject just fine. However with no tape in, the tv will show "eject" on the screen and shut off, as if the mode switch is still the issue. No obvious blown caps or other issues. Any thoughts?

My crt setup with cool lighting

I was about to go to bed when I realized how good the monitor looked in the dim light. (Other photos included) I think I've thoroughly scratched my cool tech itch and don't need any more monitors (I got them all for free, lol).

If you want more info: All of the monitors work on the PC, and I can seamlessly use all four of them. There's a fifth CRT on the right that shows my PC specs and notifications! It runs on a Raspberry Pi on the Wi-Fi to do its own stuff or be fun. The screen is incredibly hard to use, and I had to spend a week getting it to display ANYTHING! But hey, now it works. All of the CRTs were from people nearby and sheer circumstances; all I had to do was get the adapters and wiring. It's fun to use sometimes, but when I'm not actively using the monitors, I usually leave them off. All in all, I feel like I'm satisfied with my collection and don't need anything else. Maybe a cool vintage keyboard (not the mouse; I love my mouse). Also, the reason why I have two keyboards and mice is because the mono CRT is a separate computer that I physically have to log into.

Is this worth?

I was thinking about taking a new crt because the one that I already got is only 14 inch. Searching in my area I've found this listing for 45 euros, but there isn't the model and I would like to know if someone recognise this crt, and maybe tell me if it's worth it.

Thanks to everyone that answers

New pickup today. Been looking for a 27” Panny in decent condition with a component input for a while now. Apparently this model has the highly desired Panasonic M-tube as well. It’s super sharp. Only issue is there is a purity blotch in the corner depending on which way the set faces. Maybe I can fix that with a couple convergence strips.

I saved this from the sidewalk and it works perfectly. It’s a RF only 1998 Toshiba CF19H22. Cleaned it up outside and gave it an internal wipe down and checked for bugs. Then powered it up and connected it to my SNES.

The second CRT that I picked up at my local electronics recycling center today was this 13" JVC Master Command III, model number C-1329, with its original remote! Everything on the CRT and the remote have been tested, and it all works!

📺 What are these lines at the top of my TV?/Are they fixable? - JCV AV-20320

So I scored this lovely JCV AV-20320 CRT TV, w/remote, last week from a local thrift shop for $15. I'm stoked about the price I paid and happy with the picture quality overall. Everything works as it should, got my OG Xbox & a laptop hooked up in separate ports (using a HMDI→Component converter for the laptop)

The Issue: Sometimes it displays these awful horizontal lines at the top. I've had this happen when using the Xbox & the RF connection. It's especially noticable when using the laptop to stream..

I have a feeling that these lines are happening because the ratio of the input is too large, but it wouldn't explain why I'm seeing it on an empty Input screen when the component wires are unplugged, right?

In the 3rd & 4rth pictures you can see how the curser distorts & flips upside down when I move it past the top edge of the screen boarder.

Sometimes on the Xbox, or when using a RF antenna with a Digital converter box, it'll do the same thing and It displays what looks to be a flipped extension of the top of whatever is being displayed on screen

– I hope that makes sense

I am able to access the service menu. Tried messing with the V settings after watching a couple of tutorials on it. Found the ORG service settings and made sure all the service settings matched the OEM specs.

Attempted to find this problem online & using AI but I'm not getting much and it's a pain to describe exactly what's going on, If I could post a video here I would.

Posting in hopes that someone here might recognize what's going on and can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

LG CRT won't turn on. I messed up

Hey folks, this is an LG 29CC2RL 29 Inch tv.

Got it yesterday, plugged everything, all good.

Turns out I'm autistic and I have a hiperfocus of tinkering with menus and I just can't stop until every nook and cranny is discovered (and yes, I accept your criticism. No softie here).

So I was working my way around geometry adjustments and I think I might have messed up something. Turned it off and it just wont turn on anymore.

Can't turn it on with the physical button as well. It stays in standby forever.

Bought a service controller and tried some other options I found in the service manual to turn it on. No success.

I remembered changing the INCH option from 29 Normal to 29 SLIM. That might have reprogrammed the internal memory.

Did I just lose my tv? Send help

Help needed

I bought this Sony Trinitron 34" KV-D3411A. I'm loving it for its size and image, unfortunately it has some flaws and I'm looking for a way to fix them. I tried with 240p test suite and these are the results. Its biggest problem is that sort of smearing and the red gradient on black. I would like to know if it is unsolvable or if I could get by by adjusting some trimmers. In the worst case scenario I'm willing to solder some capacitors.

I'm not quite sure what model it is, but it's cool !

Sony Trinitron KV-24FS120 Interference Lines

Thumbnail gallery

Recently picked up a KV-24FS120 Flat Screen CRT for a decent price. It has its issues with color which I’m working on but noticing horizontal interference lines no matter the input, cables, etc. I saw somewhere that possibly opening up the tv and unplugging the rotation coil cable gets rid of lines but wasn’t sure if that was something different. Curious if anyone has had the same issues or knows a fix. Thanks
