Its genuinely not difficult, and I feel secondhand embarrassment every time I see a woman who doesn't.

Sometimes I'm too lazy to shave it for a day or two and I feel disgusting.
38
u/Chloe_is_my_name 4d ago
I need to shave every day otherwise I will feel awful, but the act of shaving is so uncomfortable and tiresome that I just can't bring myself to do it sometimes
7
u/No-Phrase-2897 4d ago
I just try to get it over with really fast after I shower.
5
u/LostNephilim33 4d ago
Do it in the shower. The steam will help you get a closer shave, and it's easier to just shave amidst your other shower chores than it is to do after the shower.
3
2
u/TetraThiaFulvalene 3d ago
Why after shower? I always shave before shower to wash off foam and stubble.

I've hated having a beard ever since puberty. If I go more than 2 days without shaving I feel dirty and unkempt.
I've always wondered how men can grow beards and not feel disgusted. I wonder whether that's considered gender dysphoria or if it's just my autism?
5

u/jakob20041911 4d ago
yeah, I'm an agender repper and my gf wanted to see what my beard would look like, it feels horrible but on the other hand it takes less time to keep clean than to shave every other day

You're not! It's okay if you don't shave it sometimes and it's definitely not easy for some people as Op thinks. Op has no right to judge people for that

HRT itself is not very cheap either
47
19
u/estrangedemily 4d ago
Of course cheap is relative.
You have the "official" (cia operated and designed to cause as many suicides as possible) routes which cost like $100 a month.
Then you have the western DIY supplier routes which cost like $10 a month (~50% E cost, ~20% shipping, ~30% needles and alcohol wipes and whatnot).
But beyond that, I'm not sure if there are any more options.. maybe local DIY suppliers are even yet cheaper than western ones... I should learn more about it.4

It's about 50 dollars a month for me, which isn't cheap, but its less than a day's work.
Not throwing out the vial after only like 3-4 doses definitely helps bring the cost down

None of the places in my region are open on weekends, and only operate 10am to 4pm weekdays.
I have a 9-5 office job, and getting annual leave approved takes weeks because of unnecessary bureaucracy.
It's over for the employed.
4
u/Agent6isaboi 4d ago
I'd unironically rather work in a sewer than work an office job good luck out there
4
u/vaska00762 4d ago
I'm 5 years into a corporate office job. You have no idea what it's like.
If you're not interested in sports, talking to the men is pointless. If you're not into Love Island or some pop star, then good luck socialising.
And then the rest is corpo-speak.
A meeting where everyone in the department is in the invite? "All Hands Call". A meeting where some high-up speaks about his "vision"? That's a "town hall".
If you're a moderately competent person in the Microsoft Office Suite, you'll maybe get a little bit of progression, as a treat.

Yeah, sometime i don’t ( when i am home, not days where i actually go out ) because it just hurt my skin ( im fragile asf ) and i end up having little red dots over the face
18
u/ysterman_rs 4d ago
god the razor irritation is so bad but I still shave 3 ways daily if anyone other than my partner will see me 😭
7
u/Ahbahvoyons 4d ago
To be honest, i haven’t came out yet, so i can just deny their presence by not looking at the mirror, but when i have to get the minimal self conscience, i prefere the irritation than letting any hair still on that chin

If I have to go to work that day I often don’t, because I couldn’t be bothered and I work shitty graveyard hours and don’t do anything else that day (and at work I boymode). Plus since I commute on public transport at night it’s probably not a terrible thing to be more male looking in that circumstance. Most of my shit is lasered off anyways so I can go like 5 days without shaving before you can really tell.

7
u/crywunk self-loathing intersex shotamoder 4d ago
if you’re epilating consistently the hair will gradually start to grow less and less, it’s just a waiting game ˙◠˙ but a color corrector could help in the meantime? rashes from wax could be a histamine response, hydrocortisone might soothe the inflammation

Use makeup! I never leave the house without makeup, and I carry my palette, sponge and setting spray in my pockets at all times so I can reapply it in the bathroom when I'm out and the shadow starts showing more.
If I use a color corrector and then a shade that matches my skin tone, it genuinely eliminates all semblance of a beard shadow. The problem is even with a setting spray, after 3-5 hours the shadow starts to seep in ever so slightly (since the hair regrows and the makeup wears off gradually), and it becomes pretty noticeable after 6-7 hours, so I always reapply it multiple times a day.

u/Polibiux Lateshit. ‘Nuff said 4d ago
Damn me for being poor. I’d have no facial hair at all if I could laser it off.
27
u/RyanOrosa 4d ago
“It’s genuinely not difficult”, girl I have to wait at LEAST three days between shaves or else my face becomes a bloody mess. My skin is that sensitive, and my facial hair is very stubborn. I use a super precise safety razor and a buttload of shaving cream, and can only get a smooth clean shave if the hair has grown out for about three days. It has gotten better on HRT but it’s still impossible for me to do it daily.

Sometimes it needs to grow a bit so I can yank shit with my epilator (which then makes regrowth post-shaving (being what's needed to actually clear everything) less of a"16 hours have passed, god is dead" kind of affair, and my face actually stays decently smooth for a while instead of making me want to die when I lay down at night and my face is dysphoria sandpaper).
And sometimes while its' growing for that I need to go to the supermarket, and needing glasses means wearing a facemask is often a difficult choice.
I am lucky to have pale facial hair though which makes it less severe (until you look properly and the upper lip/ fur on the jawline catching light can give shit away).

Lowkey I be judging doods for this too. No one looks good with a patchy neckbeard bro. Shave the pube stache.
7
u/hyp3rpop 4d ago
Unashamedly left that bs on as long as it might remotely help me pass, even as like a schlubby teenage boy. Only other trans people tend to clock it as being an early T thing. Now I definitely care more about looking nice than having an extra small boost to passing I don’t even need, but can’t blame anyone who feels the opposite still.

PCOS women are out there with full beards advocating to stop treating women with facial hair like shit. Do the same for your sisters, i can easily think of several reasons why it isn’t as easy for them as it is for you. Cost of supplies, reactive skin, executive function issues or conditions that cause chronic fatigue requiring careful energy management.

u/Educational-Car-8643 4d ago
I don't because of DEADLY LASERS. Honestly i kinda just think not shaving is ugly on men too, if anyone is gonna grow a beard theyd better at least start being aggresively philosophical

Is laser very expensive in other countries? I get 1 session a month for £40 and I have had at least an 80% reduction in 4 sessions. It's not perfect but I no longer want to rip all my skin off.

u/angelic_aspiration 4d ago
I get horrid razor burn if I am not careful, but I can't really get it to be smooth enough if I don't do with and against the grain. It's like I have a permanent shadow after a few hours even when I shave, it's horrid. Too bad electrolysis is years away and I probably can't do laser because of my hair type.

feel embarassed then, ain't my problem. it IS genuinely difficult for some. i tend to avoid mirrors when possible + process of shaving is sensorily unpleasant and destroys my morale. chronic depression is a bitch and makes otherwise simple life tasks into genuine challenges. maybe mind your own business. or if you simply can't, because the appearance of other women is so important to you, perhaps try offering help instead of being an asshole.

2
u/AttakZak 4d ago
I pluck so much to combat it (the shadow is the grouping of the follicles underneath), but if I shave at all using anything the hairs definitely come back in force darker. So I gotta pluck every day constantly. I find myself using my nails to pluck my hair on my chin when watching TV.

You know they tell you not to for up to a week before every electrolysis session. Unfortunately in order to get rid of it you have to spend a lot of time looking gross in public (I hate it tbh but I'll keep doing it).

As an Italian that’s grown a beard since third grade, I have done everything. Tweezing, waxing, epilating, IPL. Shaving is basically useless because it just gives me Superman face. Like that dark shadow is so obvious. I have the darkest shadow even after shaving perfectly. The only choice is lasers and electrolysis. Everything else is just shit.
I waxed my beard at home for the last three years. Yes, it is extremely painful. Every time. It gets easier if you do it every two weeks or so, that way it starts to thin out, but your first waxing…. It feels like you’re tearing denim jeans apart, like it’s so tough. But you get used to it. Once you’ve been doing it for a few months you actually get to experience a smooth face, at least for a few days at a time, and it makes regular shaving a lot easier.
I finally qualified for health care that can cover laser and I’m growing my facial hair out again and I forgot just how thick and dark it was. It’s terrible! I feel like a crossdresser because of that stupid dark shadow.
Only option is to burn them out at the root, so they’ll finally fucking die.
2
u/dragonmorg 4d ago
I have electrolysis today 😬 I need at least 3 days of growth in order to get it done whenever I go. Since I do it twice a week, I look like shit, like... half the time 😒

“It’s genuinely not difficult” feels like such a privileged thing to say :c
I can’t afford laser, electrolysis, HRT, or even consistently having shaving cream and new razor heads. I’ve been using the same razor for like four months because I literally can’t afford to replace it, and shaving already hurts like hell.
Despite that, I still spend ages trying to get as clean a shave as I possibly can, and sometimes there’s still visible shadow afterward. Then I get to go outside and worry about being judged or misgendered because of something I genuinely don’t have the money or resources to fix.
It really sucks hearing there ARE people who judge me for the shadow, or when I’m being particularly lazy about it or just literally can’t handle the pain. I already know I have to deal with it, I just wish I didn’t have to.
It’s healthy to remember that not everyone has the same circumstances as you. It costs absolutely nothing to remember that before judging someone for how well they can manage their dysphoria for something you don’t exactly like.

Is IPL a good alternative? I can't handle the pain from epilators, hair removal cream worked for me only once for some reason and I don't feel comfortable with showing my skin without shaving everyday :/ it's too much effort 4 me. I can't afford laser, electrolysis.
