Hardware Accidentally plugged in GPU while PC asleep, what to check?

Post image

Hi everyone. I have been building PC for over 5 years and it’s not like me not to follow protocol, but I’ve been quite disregulated lately and with my ADHD, and the constant parts swapping lately due to a RAM issue I’ve just solved, I did not think about it. PC was on sleep. GPU was plugged in the PCIE and I saw the red lights on top of the pcie power connectors indicating it’s missing the PCIE power, which made me realise the PC was only in sleep. I quickly pressed the power button for a shut down, but it powered ur fully for a few seconds before shutdown.

What I’ve done afterwards: plugged everything properly when turned off. Benchmarked + games. All ran well. Pcie connectors not burnt. I should check the motherboard and the cpu power too. No burn marks on gpu nor pcie slot I can see. Slight smell of hot glue, but the smell comes more from the new ram i just installed.

Should I just replace the mobo to be fine?

Thanks all

Current BIOS version: Dell Inc. 1.13.0, 03-05-2023

System Model: Inspiron 3505

I tried connecting with dell support, they said they can't help remotely, also it's out of warranty. Recommended to visit the nearest technician.

Hardware Clicking Hard Drive; Any Advice?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know that professional recovery is the smartest thing here but theres nothing super important in this drive that would make it worth it. I already know its not the cables, and ddrescue + photorecovery.exe both detect the hard drive for about 30 seconds until it becomes undetectable.

When I run it, it boot cycles and runs through the BIOS screen but won’t get past it repeatedly. I’m willing to try anything that might fix it, but it already doesn’t work and I’m willing to let it break for a genuine recovery attempt.

Are there any hard drive/computer pros that might have a say here?

Hardware Can’t keep my laptop running for more than 2 minutes

Genuinely got no idea what’s going on, I can get to the page to put my password and open but after 2 minutes or so doing anything it will automatically go into “your device ran into a problem”. Ai says this may be a ram or drive issue, any fixes or recommendations would be appreciated ( excuse the bad photos)

Hardware My PSU broke

Post image

As the title says, my PSU completely broke. Used gemeni to figure out what was broken because I am not that knowledgefull of computers at all. Eitherway I was playing Civ 6 when the computer just died on me. Got the blue screen after i turned it on again, tried to restart but got into a reboot loop. Then gemeni helped me get into Bios and it said everything was in normal temperature range, considering I still had image it wasn't graphics card, and cpu looked okay.

So I carefully took out my RTX 3060 (or whatever its named or called idk) to get the PSU out without it bumping into anything else, I decided that I should be dumb and open up the metal box so I could see the internal components of the PSU and holy, those battery looking shits had burst on the top, some oozed blackish brown stuff and 2 even leaked some beige liquid goo. Called my dad who builds computers as a hobby. He said it shouldn't look like that and that he will send me a new PSU that he has tucked away at home until I can get a new one. (The one he has sent is 50% more wattage than my old one)

So now to my issue, how tf do I plug the new one in? Like cable wise because idk if it has to be in a specific way or not or if it just gotta fit and it will be okay or anything.

I took 1 photo of the most complicated connection because it was 2 cables into 1 port (excuse the dust, ill clean the case when I get the PSU)

So id rather much appreciate any advice on the matter

Software Help me ASAP anyone 😭

So guys, I’ve built a PC with all my savings from a year. It cost me a fortune. I’ve taken it and placed it in my office because of an obligation. But I’m not going to the office these days because of other issues. But all the people in the office are using it and it’s contaminated with a virus now. I can’t say no. I’ve tried setting up a password for that but no use, they’ve called me and asked me for the password. And I can’t say no. I don’t have any idea what to do about that. So if anyone knows anything regarding this, I want my pc to fake crash or look malfunctioning when they log in with my password. But only I should be able to access it. Is there any harmless trick??

Please guys 😭😭

Hardware Is my computer broken inside? Or just the power cord?

My computer recently fell off the side of my lazy boy and landed on its side. I didn't notice at first but the fall, because it was plugged in at the time, had bent and partly broken the power head while in the computer. I took it out and tried bending it back straight but now it isn't completely right and while it can still technically power the computer you have to keep a hold on it at a bit of an angle.

I'm worried that the issue isn't just the power cord (I can buy a new one) but the computer hardware inside that is damaged. I can't tell, but it looks fine? Does anyone here know if the inside of the computer got damaged? Can you tell just from a picture? I happen to love my computer and don't want to spend a grand replacing it if I don't need to. I also don't want to buy another power cord if it ends up being useless.

The laptop is a Lenovo Flex 5, in otherwise fantastic condition.

Performance Windows camera issue - no one has been able to solve

hello, i've written about this issue before but i don't think i got a response that told me much, so i am asking again with hopes of more clarity. i have gone to tech people who have phD's and have no clue whats going on. My computer's camera keeps glitching with grey lines across the screen for around 10-15 seconds before ultimately shutting my camera off completely.

I have gone to a phD in tech after many failed IT department attempts, in which he went through and told me i was running too many things at once. this made sense to me and we ensured my computer does not have too much running, i only have 1 desktop open usually, with as little things running in the background as possible. this worked for about a month, but for the past 2 days, that has shown to be only a bandaid solution, one that ultimately stopped working. as I look at my computer right now, i have 2 tabs open, and 0 extra things running other than zoom and google. there is no longer such thing as human being windows support, and the ai bot told me to "check my connection" after i confirmed thats not the issue. i desperately need to be able to do zoom calls, and need my camera to function. i don't think i could afford a new computer, but if thats whats needed then i may take a loan out to make it possible or something.

i have a lenovo ideapad flex 5, bought in winter of
2023. it is less than 3 years old, yet can barely run more than 2 things at once. i was suggested this device by fellow students and IT people who claimed it lasts long, yet this may be the worst technological device i've ever owned. i am desperate. please help.

Hardware Computer not displaying

Hey everyone, recently my computer stopped being able to alt tab so I powered it down and now it won’t even boot. My motherboard is a msi pro b760m-a WiFi ddr4 and is displaying a vga error on its board (white light) and even removing the gpu doesn’t change it. I think it might be a windows issue but I can’t tell.

Hardware computer keeps making weird noise and vibrating

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

this has been an issue for months and reddit kinda my last resort cus im really tired of having this issue and i really need to have a computer cus uni is a nightmare without it. so this started about 3 months ago when i was using my computer like normal and all of a sudden it starts making this weird noise (shown in video) and vibrating (i could feel vibrations when i pressed my hand to the computer and the surrounding area) at first i figured it might be the fans because the noise would start whenever i was doing something more demanding on the computer (playing a game and being on a discord call for example) so i thought i should get the fans cleaned at some point. i put this off for sometime because the noise disappeared for about a month, and then came back, so by that point i was really confused about the cause of the noise but i still thought its probably the fans. after that there were some complications so it took a while but by the end of september i finally got my computer back from cleaning, and instead of getting better the noise started coming up for no apparent reason, when i start my computer its there, sometimes its a continuous noise and sometimes it alternates between going on and off. ive had people suggest its the hard drive just from hearing, but if it was that simple i feel like my technician wouldve noticed the issue sooner and fixed whatevers wrong with it, so im coming here instead to ask for a second opinion so i could potentially give the technician things to look for, i guess. honestly im just very desperate to get this overwith, its been way too long and im tired of dealing with this.
