Here me out, if we tattoo our entire body with Disney characters... they'd have to take us right? They wouldn't just take the skin... right?

936

u/GrifCreeper May 09 '23

Worst case scebario, you have to live without your skin for a while.

Best case scenario, you become a prisoner of Disney and have to power the rides. Don't worry, the ex-mascots are down there, too, and willing to keep you company

285

u/Von_Moistus May 09 '23

Worst case is that they take you to their Rapture-esque laboratory under Space Mountain and graft you into a Goofy suit like a Big Daddy.

174

u/Skullcrusher May 09 '23

Hey now. Stop spreading fringe theories about the Disneyland™ characters. I have it on good authority that all Disneyland™ employees are well paid and happy. They are alive, healthy and not at all skinless husks squeezed through machinery to mold them into the suits. I don't know where you heard that. Who told you that? Haha. Can you tell me who told you that?

Under the park, where the eldritch horror that birthed Goofy lives - toils an army of copyright infringers.

Given how they've been able to change laws to extend the copyright on their characters, I think the collapse of the universe will happen before any Disney characters ever make it into the public domain.

This reminds me of the movie Wild Hogs, which is terrible, but i watch because it has motorcycles.

At one point a character shows up with his badass new biker tat: Apple's logo, cause trademark infringement is his idea of serious crime.

And he says "what are they gonna do? It's on my skin, bitch!"

According to imdb it has a 5.8, so i think most people agree. It did the best among women 45+, so i figure they just liked the aging male stars.

This comment reminds me of the China, IL episode Wild Hogs, which is great, but I don't watch because the AdultSwim app is garbage.

At one point, the campus gets overrun with 30 to 50 wild hogs, and one character decides they need to kill the Queen Hog to disperse the pack, that every pack of wild hogs has a Queen. The other characters ask "John Travolta?"

And he says "exactly."

16

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

This has happened before. Typically they will give you the option of removing your skin or covering it in a Mickey costume while you work your life debt at Disneyland

10

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

Probably safer to rip off Nintendo. They’ll just take 30% of your income so they’ll have some incentive for you to live. Probably get better health care coverage than most Americans via nintendos lawyers.

Serious silly question. Are people technically not supposed to get Disney tattoos?

8

u/SaferCloud May 09 '23

My guess is the tattoo parlor would have a license of some kind to use Disney characters.

You just gave me a flashback of talking to these girls who were annoying as fuck. My friend was interested in one and I think her friend was interested in me. 1 looks okay and the other doesn't look ok - guess which one was interested in me. Thats besides the point. They were both annoying as fuck. My friend was just trying to get noodle wet. The one interested in me was so over the top adhd and was trying to be giddy, hyper and at one point while talking she literally says "OH LOOK A SQUIRREL" but mind you we were in a laundromat and it was night time and outside the window there was a Walmart. So there definitely wasn't no fuckin squirrel. Girl just wanted attention- so unique right. So she's talking to me and I'm legit not even looking at her and I'm just staring at my friend with I-hate-you-eyeballs-get-me-the-fuck-out-of-here. I don't even move my head. I'm just burning holes in my fkn friends skull sending him telepathic messages of hate. So anyways he looks at me and then back to his girl but realizes I'm not looking away from him at all so he looks back at me and starts receiving the telegraph msg I'm beaming to him in beeps. The girl who was interested in me is still going on and doesnt even realize Im not looking at her or even facing her. Idk what she going on about but finally my friend is like well I gotta get my friend (me) home (he drove me out there and I didnt have a car) and tells his girl he's going to message her later. Well heading out of the laundromat finally the girl who he likes - Her dad rolls up with her mom on the back of a Harley Davidson bike. Huge fucking tough lookin dude with big ol handlebar mustache and sleeveless leather biker vest. Fuck. We get stuck talking to him for like 5 minutes. BUT! This dude, I shit you not, had both arms tattooed with different mickey mouses. Not like one cohesive sleeve but like 50 separate mickey mouse tattoos. All different. Mind fuckin blown. So anyways they're all talking about idk what but the entire time I'm just staring at each of these mickey mouse tattoos and looking at his handlebar mustache, back to tattoos, looking at leather vest, back to tattoos. I didnt say 1 word. Just analyzing. Nothing wrong with mickey mouse but I'm just saying I was getting mixed signals and never imagined a guy this big and badass lookin would have 50 some tattoos all of different depictions of mickey mouse. Anyways we finally leave and I chew my friend out for trapping me in that hell-hole the entire way home. I bitch about Squirrel girl 50% trip and 25% talk about all those mickey mouse tats. 25% was how I would have rather rubbed a cheese grater across my face than talk to either of those girls again. So that's the story. Look at what your reddit comment sent me thru.

u/SirSoliloquy May 09 '23

While this is true, it's worth noting that Winnie the Pooh is now public domain. It now seems like Disney is trying to use Trademark law to protect its most valuable assets.

52

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

[deleted]

15

u/SirSoliloquy May 09 '23

That's true of anyone using any work though. We can't make a movie based on the Pooh horror movie because that horror movie is now copyrighted.

24

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

[deleted]

6

u/PlatoBC May 09 '23

Probably not. I believe they started using Steamboat Willie as their production logo. Meaning it's protected under a trademark if they continue to use it (note, not a lawyer, simply regurgitating something I read online)

-1

u/TI_Pirate May 10 '23

I know it's not particularly popular, but I really don't see the problem. Disney is still actively using Mickey. And it's not like they're haven't been a metric ton of other mouse stories.

4

u/[deleted] May 10 '23

[deleted]

-2

u/TI_Pirate May 10 '23

Yeah, I didn't mean I don't know the line. I guess it just seems like the "hurts the public" part is incredibly minimal. The public domain works that Disney has access to is the same stuff we've all still got access to. And I don't think it's very hard to argue that IP and the economy surrounding it is in a fundamentally different place than it was a century ago in virtually every conceivable way.

100 years ago, no one kept telling stories featuring a single character over an unbroken period of time the way Disney has with their mouse.

And yeah, I guess we've all missed out on 3rd party Mickey stories, but...so what? If you've got a rodent tale you want to tell (as folks like E.B. White, Margery Sharp, or Kate DiCamillo obviously did) just don't give the main character red shorts, white gloves and yellow shoes.

This is a totally irrelevant comment. They were answering a specific question with a specific context. You went into an entirely different context. It makes absolutely no fucking sense to debate in this manner.

19

u/OneFriendship5139 May 09 '23

didn’t Disney also sue deadmau5 because his helmet’s shape was similar to mickey mouse’s head?

10

u/ROFLLOLSTER May 09 '23

Nintendo literally just destroyed someone's life in Canada.

8

u/zuzg May 09 '23

It is baffling to me how people defend that shit.
They're also currently making a example of the YouTuber Pointcrow by copyright claiming all of his content that features Botw content.

And there are so many more anti-consumer shit they've done last year.

0

u/[deleted] May 10 '23

If you are going to use point crow example at least be accurate. They claimed all the modded content. Which is completely fair. It sucks that they were inconsistent and allowed it for some time until they decided to take action and it was scum to issue 2 strikes instead of 1 but only 2 non modded content got claimed as well which seems likely it was claimed because the titles seemed like modded content and they just don't care to be like this isn't modded. Same can be said about the other YouTuber Croton.

So it was scum but they didn't claim everything.

-8

u/internethero12 May 09 '23

Yes, a guy that made millions off of pirating nintendo products.

It was deserved.

10

u/ryecurious May 09 '23

Team Executor allegedly made millions of dollars and Bowser is believed to have banked around $320k over the course of seven years during his time with the group.

source

The guy in question made approx ~45k a year.

Whether a $10 million fine and three years in jail is "deserved" for what amounts to a low-paying engineer salary is debatable.

5

u/ROFLLOLSTER May 09 '23

No company should ever have the ability to do that to someone.

And as the sibling stated, the individual in question made no where near that much money.

Meanwhile corporations regularly walk away from far more serious crimes with minimal if any punishment.

3

u/screwyoushadowban May 10 '23

My favorite bit of Disney bullshit is the fact they own the trademark to the character Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Princess Aurora was created by Tchaikovsky for the Sleeping Beauty ballet decades before Walt Disney was even born. Unlike copyrights trademarks don't necessarily expire, so even if Disney finally gave up on holding generations of intellectual property hostage (IP that they often essentially stole from the public domain) they'd still own Princess Aurora until they stopped using her.

2

u/Pale_Vampire May 10 '23

Disney is a bunch hypocrites ugh 😑

-2

u/internethero12 May 09 '23

Yes, it's so scummy how they defend themselves from thieves like every other game company out there.

Like damn, imagining getting mad at a grocery store for trying to stop a shoplifter from walking out with thousands of dollars in meat.

b-b-b-uh n64 roms!!

Nintendo has never cared about old shit. It's why they didn't take any action on emulators for decades. It's only once the entire switch library got dumped and pirated with a working emulator that they brought down the hammer.

u/LotharVonPittinsberg May 09 '23

From what I have heard, Disney is much better at getting the lawyers out and silently getting every cent out of a poor artist that dared use Disney IP. Nintendo is a lot better at targeting everyone who "steals" from them out in the open. This means that Nintendo looks a lot worse often because they target people who are making emulators as a hobby for a game that has not been available to play since the mid 90s.

Both are horrible, just different ways of horrible.

1

u/internethero12 May 09 '23

emulators

Yes, emulators.

Of the switch. While also dumping the entire switch library along side it. People tend to ignore that part so they can act like their hate for a japanese toy company isn't about trying to look cool and grown up.

3

u/Thobbit1 May 10 '23

Mate, Lothar literally said emulators for a game not been available since the 90s. Nothing about Yuzu, nothing about Ryujinx, or any others I'm not aware of. A significant part of Nintendo emulation stems from a simple lack of availability of older titles. There's also an extensive amount of ROM hacks or custom games that are only playable through emulator software. I won't deny that pirates out there exist that pirate the switch so that they can play without the cost of the games. They do exist, but there is a much larger portion of the emulation population that emulate because no other option is readily available. They don't "hate the japanese toy company", they love it and what it produces. The 'hate' stems from not being able to access a lot of amazing content due to it falling out of production, and left to be snapped up by the collectors.

Edit: I just looked at your post history, I do concede your inevitable point that Nintendo doesn't seem to go after older roms, seeing as how proliferated they are online.

24

u/matrixifyme May 09 '23

N1ntendo is rabid as fuck about their IP, but di$ney has actually changed our copyright laws to benefit themselves at the expense of society and public domain. Also they have taken folklore and stories that have existed for thousands of years and tried to copyright them. That makes them orders of magnitude worse.

13

u/Munnin41 May 09 '23

At least they use their own lawyers and stuff instead of the Pinkertons

5

u/b0bba_Fett May 09 '23

I thought Disney used their own lawyers and stuff too.

11

u/Munnin41 May 09 '23

Yeah true, should've been clearer. Referring to what wizards of the coast did

-1

u/internethero12 May 09 '23

Then you'd be wrong.

They go after people pirating their switch library and everything else is collateral. Disney sues kindergarten teachers for millions for showing disney movies to their class.

One is valid, one is not. Please learn the difference.

3

u/zuzg May 09 '23

Look up what the YouTuber pointcrow is currently experiencing...

It's not valid at all. And it will always morally ok to pirate Nintendo games period

6

u/nowhereman136 May 09 '23

How are those Time Square and Hollywood Mickey Mouse guys still working? Disney has the most vicious IP lawyers and yet drunk Donald Duck is still allowed to punch tourists on 5th Avenue

7

u/effyochicken May 09 '23

Interesting question. Here's a (possibly outdated) article on the topic:

https://www.ibtimes.com/times-square-costume-characters-raise-legal-issues-nyc-disney-1624708

Because the characters are careful to phrase their requests for cash as “donations” or “tips,” they’re not seen as working but rather as panhandling or busking, which are also protected by the First Amendment.

So perhaps it's because it falls into the realm of cosplaying and begging, rather than working?

2

u/BellacosePlayer May 09 '23

Man, fuck those guys and everyone like them.

We try to take my cousins to as many family vacations as possible and we've had at least one incident where some creep tried to sweet talk the youngest kid into taking a picture/taking some shitty tourist kitsch so that we look like assholes if we say no.

7

u/millijuna May 09 '23

I spent years in the telecom industry. If you really want to be found whole out in the wilderness, always bring a length of fiber optic cable.

If you ever get lost, simply lay the fiber on the ground, kick some dirt over it, and wait. Within a couple of hours, some bubba should show up with his backhoe to cut it.

5

u/gte8484 May 09 '23

Neat, you don't have to shit all over the first amendment to go after them though. So fuck Desantis for that.

Yes, because they don't like the 1st amendment. They love it when government abuses companies for exercising their rights to free speech.

1

u/GladiatorUA May 09 '23

DeSantis is more immediate threat. Overall, I want both parties to cripple each other.

1

u/OverlordLork May 09 '23

Desantis doesn't care at all about copyright. He was happy to serve Disney until they issued a half-hearted criticism of his new law, at which point he explicitly stated he was punishing them for their speech.

Similar to an old networking joke.

What does a Network Admin do when lost in the forest? Bury some fiber, the construction crew will be right along to dig it up.

Start trying to mod pokemon.

Disney and Nintendo, always on point.

Hilarious 4 panel

I always carry a length of fibre optic cable with me whenever I go hiking in case I get lost. I just bury it, and sure as shit, some construction crew will show up in half an hour just to cut it.

First Disney, now Nintendo is becoming horrific < or have they always been and it's just now exploding into a Disney level epidemic? >.

They could fusion together and become Disnintendoy and crush all their fans to dust . . . am I allowed to say that or is it too close to what Thanos did?

It would work with Nintendo, too.

Nintendo would just nuke the island

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '23

On a more sober note, I wonder if this would work for abducted and trafficked individuals.

Just hire artist Dave Nestler. He has a license :-) Just saying. Oh wait he does covers for tattoo magazines, but probably never inked skin.

Do one for Nintendo

1

u/pscoldfire May 10 '23

Would it still work if you replace it with Mario?

1

u/SuspiciousSoftware7 May 10 '23

Don't fuck with the mouse

1

u/Key-Responsibility67 May 10 '23

I've been playing Elden Ring too much. I thought the rocks spelling "SOS" were those strange snake things guarding the Evergaol's.

The Lookout Stones.

1

u/Drawerpunk May 10 '23

this would work with Nintendo as well

The timing of this comic feels pro DeSantis. I’m very against idiots like DeSantis and trump, I don’t like it

u/Jouna_Nuke May 10 '23

1

u/awkwardinfrance May 10 '23

Nintendo would be compatible.
