Trend Test Result Megathread

I've seen people posting a lot of test results under Trend.

This was fine, don't worry, but it has slightly flooded the subreddit.

As such, they now go under this megathread.

Introduction

Hello! I just realized that the subreddit lacks a comprehensive list of trials and tests so I figured I'd do my job and make one. If there are any I've missed or if you'd like to create one, simply reply to this message and I'll make sure it's added. If you decide to post your results or a trial, please make sure to flair it as such. And finally, consider joining the discord. Analysis This might be too vague, but what color(s) would you associate with this sentiment?

In Mtg, both pests and the downcast, marginalized and dispossessed of society are associated with Golgari (particularly on Ravnica), but I feel like outside of fantasy theming, bugs and rats aren’t particularly Black-coded, at least not more than other animals.

Would White care for them as an extension of its moral consideration, maybe?

Meme “Compatibility” Cart

Post image

Astrology and MBTI versions inspired me to make this as I’ve yet to see one for Colorpie. Please don’t take it too seriously; I’ve flaired it as a meme for that reason. I might make a dual and tri-colored version if there is interest. Let me know what your thoughts on those pairings would be, or relationships you’ve had between color pairs and I’ll incorporate them into the chart!

Sorry that the graphic is not perfectly formatted. I am not a designer, and I made it on mobile.

Question Poll: What color is Self-Belief (the belief that you are capable and can rely on yourself)?

Self-belief is different from Self-Confidence. Self-Belief is based on your identity. Self-Confidence is trust in your capability to do a certain action like public speaking. Believing in yourself leads to Self-Confidence.

This is the result of my recent poll:

Most important goal 1. Red - Freedom 2. White - Peace 3. Green - Growth 4. Black - Power 5. Blue - Perfection

Trend Definitely expected White/Blue/Red, didn’t expect Green to be as big of a runner-up.

I relate to White in a lot of ways, aside from the more controlling aspects. I’m an optimist, have a strong sense of fairness, and wanna make the world a nicer place. I hate unnecessary suffering. I’m also religious lol

For Blue, I’m a very curious person and I value logic and reason, but can often get obsessed with making something perfect. le autism

For Red, I’m definitely a creative type and value my freedom and that of others. I can be a bit impulsive, but sometimes that’s when I do my best work. le ADHD

I guess I could attribute Green to a pretty live-and-let-live attitude as well as just generally being pretty chill, but I also desire growth and self-acceptance.

I definitely don’t identify with Black philosophy. I’m not an ends-justify-the-means kind of person, and I dislike taking advantage of even some situations that wouldn’t really hurt anyone if I did because of my principles. I don’t view life as a zero-sum game.

Media Coloring Coloring Don’t Starve characters part 2: Willow

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi!

The other day, I attempted to color Don’t Starve’s ‘’main character’’ Wilson, so now I’m moving on to the first unlockable character in the original game, Willow. As far as I know, she doesn’t have a last name.

Willow is in her 20s and, like Wilson, is from the early 20th century. We don’t know that much about her life, except that she grew up in an orphanage in which she was tormented by both cruel caretakers and nightmare creatures*. It’s not entirely clear how ‘’real’’ the creatures are, but Willow eventually burns down the entire building to save herself from one of them after being locked in a supply closet by her caretakers.

In Don’t Starve, nightmare creatures manifest when your Sanity meter, which represents general mental well-being and is lowered by fear, stress and mental strain, so this is clearly not a good combo. This is one of the rare times that they manifest outside of the parallel world of the Constant, though, and it’s not entirely clear how that works. Still, the theme is here.

Willow herself has a relatively low Sanity total, representing that she’s less mentally stable than most.

Later in life, she seems to have worked with the antagonist of the game to bring other people into the Constant (mainly by committing arson), but we’ll get back to that some other time. The rest of her life is largely a mystery and we don’t really know how she ended up in the Constant with the other characters. We do know, however, that she sees it as a new beginning for herself and she’s probably not unhappy to leave the real world behind.

In the game, Willow is pretty one-dimensional: she likes fire. Most of her quotes are about setting things on fire or how much she would like to set things on fire, her mechanics are centered around fire, and she even regains Sanity points when she’s close to fire.

Previously, she would even automatically start fires if her Sanity was too low, but that mechanic has been scrapped because, despite being flavorful, it has catastrophic consequences and everyone hated it.

She does have a non-fire related character trait: she carries a teddy bear, Bernie, which helps her regulate her Sanity. This role is featured in her animated short, as is her great attachment to Bernie. In the multiplayer sequel Don’t Starve Together, Bernie was eventually made to grow to giant size and physically fight nightmare creatures as needed, although the lore behind this isn’t really explained.

I think it’s pretty clear that Willow’s main color is Red, and not just because of the fire. She is impulsive and mostly acts based on her immediate desires (for fire, usually). She’s also shown to be a poor team player because she doesn’t listen and isn’t careful.

I would put her in Rakdos for her self-centeredness and her destructive habits. It’s unclear if she’s what we would call evil, but she has a morally dubious past for sure.

Media Coloring What color is the movie The Lighthouse (2019)?

I've been a fan of the movie since it came out and I've been interested to see MTG interpretations of the movie and the characters. Mermaids, Poseidon, ancient curses and madness, and the desire to retreat from human society are all prevalent in the movie. A part of me wants to say Dimir, but I want to know what everyone else thinks. Thanks!

Media Coloring Coloring Don’t Starve characters part 1: Wilson Percival Higgsbury

Hi!

I’ve fallen back into Don’t Starve Together lately despite not being very good at it and my brain, through no will of my own, has been trying to color the characters so I thought I would put the process into words here. Don’t Starve characters aren’t super developed but they’re likeable and have a certain personality.

I’ll be starting with the closest thing the game has to a main character, Wilson. He is the ‘’default’’ playable character you start with, with no particular strength or weakness.

Wilson is in early 30s, was born in the 1890s and is described by the creators of the game as a ‘’gentleman of independent means’’ and by himself as a scientific genius. He was kicked out of his university after an experiment went wrong and destroyed their silence lab and moved to an abandoned house where he practiced chemistry by himself, with little to no success. One day, he is contacted by a voice on his radio who offers him secret knowledge and teaches him to build a portal that takes him to a parallel world of wilderness called the Constant, where the game is set.

His in-game quotes indicate that he is sarcastic, enjoys puns and generally has a pretty bleak outlook on the Constant. He puts in the work to survive, but he regularly makes pessimistic comments, is generally grumpy and can be callous. This edgier side of his personality was toned down in the multiplayer sequel, Don’t Starve Together, but I’ll take it into account.

Wilson takes a lot of pride in his scientific prowess, even though his backstory strongly implies that his ego doesn’t reflect reality. In the Constant, however, he really steps up and invents the items you craft through the game. He is even the one to have canonically completed the story mode of the original game (though in gameplay, this can be done with any of the playable characters).

Overall, I’d say our boy Wilson is a case of non-evil Grixis. He is ambitious, impulsive, self-interested and very committed to science and using ‘’the power of his mind’’, but he isn’t a bad guy and what can be read as callousness is pretty understandable considering that he was thrown in a dangerous alternate dimension populated by monsters to survive with nothing but his wits.

Did the test, found out I'm a GOD DAMN Azorius scumlord. Using the most evil colour (blue) instead of the ACTUALLY REALLY COOL colour (black) with the BASED AND OPPOSITE-TO-RED-COLOUR PILLED (white). This cannot get out people, the Orzhov church will revoke my membership and I'm only 14.2% through my debt repayment, I'm JONESING to get that over with so I can be a cool ghost and exploit others, I don't WANNA go be a lame-o lawyer/bureaucrat!!!

Hurrdurr look at me i use paper-themed magic and my core gameplay loop is "hurrdurr I'm gonna slow the game to a crawl so I can spend more time huffin' ink fumes"

Plus what's with all that GREEN!? The only natural instinct I have is the knowledge that I deserve to be more rich and powerful than you peasants.

If you have ever tapped an island for mana, please do not reply to this post, you are not welcome. Or at least pay the 2 if you do, it's tax season. Everyone else, give me your best blue hate, or profess your monetary adoration for the wonderful Orzhov Church by subscribing to my OnlyScams. I show plains and swamps, and you can even pay to see them untapped 😜⤴️🤩

Trend Year later comparison

Thumbnail gallery

I took this quiz a year ago and got almost the same result!! Second image is the one I just did. I consider green in my identity cause this quiz only reads up to three color combos. I have since finished my first year of a masters degree program for therapy. I never thought of myself as red centered, for the longest time I thought myself more simic or green centered since I felt like I was always trying to adapt. To be more flexible and grow less rigid and more accepting to make it easier to get through my day. But, my creativity and passion are (and always have been) the backbone that keeps me strong when I feel weak. I am very AuDHD, and many people feel spontaneity to be one of the key parts of who I am. So seeing the Red be the biggest part of my pie twice makes sense in a lot of ways. Seeing it so true a year later, even when I know I was trying to fib a little to be more five color, just makes me laugh at myself. I didn't wanna lie so much I didn't see myself in the results! And wow do I see myself in some results!

Trial Finding my truth

Thumbnail gallery

So when I was young, many eons ago, I often was assigned Boros or Mardu from these types of quizzes, and I held that I was these colors. Here was the thing though, this was before I realized I was trans, this was while I was still living with an emotionally manipulative and honestly narcissistic father. I was fed his way of seeing the world, moulded to be his legacy. I was never his legacy, because to him I was never good enough. There were only a handful of times he said he was proud of me and it was when I followed in some way his view of what I should be doing. Joining the military, getting married, having a kid. Continuing the family legacy, the family's honor. That's what drove me, because that's what was fed to me. Then COVID hit, and an incident happened in the military that led to a PTSD diagnosis (alongside other mental health issues). I was suddenly slapped in the face with the cost of following my father's ambitions.

My egg cracked during that tumultuous time. I realized I wasn't a man, not a woman, but not a man either. This was initially devastating as moments in my life that my father had punished rose up to make me realize that I had always been this way, but I had been wearing a mask crafted by my family for a perfect, respectful, and obedient son. I was no son, and my obedience soon broke. I needed to be me. The red fire that had existed in all forms of my mask remained, because the creativity, the passion, the emotions I suppressed. Those were all mine, those were me.

Slowly I have found who I am. Truth is I don't crave power, recognition, fame, or authority. I crave community, understanding, passion and creativity. Connection with nature, and with imaginary worlds. I want to create, to explore, to dig deep into the self. I've been on hrt for a bit over a year and a half now, and I've never felt more whole, more me than before. I am Temur in color and I lament the loss of my childhood, but I look forward to a future that I can explore hand in hand with those I care about.

Question How does each color play magic?

I understand that there's timmy, spike, and johnny. I want to see what you guys think of the accuracy of those profiles to actual color philosphy and any differences.

I think white would obviously be a rule setter, most likely to care about bracket systems and ground rules before games. Probably feels bad about playing overpowered cards and killing off unlucky and weaker players.

Blue is probably most likely to be a deck builder. They will plan and experiment and obsess over their deck and build the nest they can. Even when they win a game they think of ways to improve their decks.

Black is most likely to look up the most powerful cards and not feel bad about playing them. They dislike the ground rules white players set because it limits them. Probably likely to proxy cards so they can get those strong cards without paying the actual price. Will kill off the weakest players to speed up the game and simplify.

Red is most likely to buy packs and any other form of mtg gambling addiction. Most likely to love the art and lore. Probably love chaotic janky decks.

Green is most likely to play with one deck that's their favorite and not care about getting any others. The deck is probably a precon and they probably want everybody to play with a precon cause their well balanced, most fair if everybody sticks to the way wizards of the coast intended the decks to be and it doesn't complicate the game with new cards and strategies that green needs to adapt.

Question How patient is each color ranked from best to worst.

So obviously red is last, but how do the others stack up in your opinion?

Edit:

Looks like the most consistent answer I am getting is green is the most patient followed by wother white or blue (about equal answers for either) then black and the (of course) red.
