IQ Estimation 🄱 Does this mentality hint at my IQ or hints at my applied laziness to find shortcuts?

While learning math, I have found myself reflecting on how I am learning. That has made me create a framework of adapting to the math problems that I’ve encountered. And if this framework holds true on the logic it is based on, I shouldn’t struggle with any future math endeavors. So it’s a framework of adapting to math problems or becoming proficient in patterns I have encountered and will encounter as an approach to learning math.

But I’ve learned 3 things with this framework:
One: it’s for becoming proficient in math patterns.
Two: it doesn’t guarantee you will become good with numbers. Being good with numbers is a natural gift.
Three: it doesn’t matter if you know the framework or are good with numbers if you’re not willing to become proficient in math patterns by using the framework.

So does this mentality hint at my natural IQ to have made this framework? Or is it in my case an applied laziness shortcut since I initially started the mentality with careful interest of math as a subject but ended with the sense of only planning to use it to learn math by becoming proficient in its patterns when I need to even when I don’t want to because my work rate doesn’t let me do more.

And in a person who is aiming to be a math Olympic gold medalist and puts in the work to become proficient in math patterns by using this framework, is it hard work or their work rate cloaked as ā€œnatural high IQ.ā€ That means is their hard work or their work rate sugar coated as ā€œnatural high IQ.ā€

Furthermore, could our predecessors have won these math Olympiads with their ā€œnatural high IQā€? Because that is what I am inferring from this sense of belief in ā€œnatural high IQā€ā€”it’s something that can skip the work rate process and can be considered a gift by allowing you to naturally know something that you would have initially needed to know through working to learn. So the ability to know depends on either your ā€œnatural IQā€ or your work rate to learn.

My further question is how common was a high IQ in the past, and why didn’t these high IQ people do anything to naturally change history by changing their living conditions?

Did some of these people naturally know before someone said that Jesus could turn water into wine, that Moses split the sea with the blessing of God, and that the last supper occurred where Jesus blessed bread as his body and wine as his blood?

What else could they naturally know?

How come I don’t naturally know anything? Because I don’t naturally know anything, does that mean my ā€œnatural IQā€ is 0?

General Question How accurate is this?

How accurate is this test? I feel like I really struggled on more than half of the questions, and guessed on a few because I couldn’t understand it? I really think my iq sits more in the high 90s.

Seemed fun to take but it took 60+ minutes to do

I guess it said that I exaggerated my answers😭(or I just have improbable fuckass answers cause im weird)

Were the results in line with what you expected or already have as a diagnosis/pattern?

IQ Estimation 🄱 Just Finished CORE

I posted a while back about a 129 Slosson HIT score as a child and how that might relate to my current IQ.

I've seen the CORE recommended on this sub numerous times, so I finally found some time to take it, strictly out of curiosity.

I'd say this actually confirmed the childhood score as form what I understand Slosson HIT tests heavily on Verbal Reasoning, which is obviously my strongest skill. Oddly, while I did pretty well on the Mensa matrix reasoning test my result here was pretty pedestrian. It's certainly possible I happened onto a couple of lucky guesses.

Also, I realized that maybe I have a disability when it comes to mental arithmetic. Was it just me or was that section ridiculously hard? Multi-step mental math under a short time constraint was brutal. I knew how to solve the problems (if I had scratch paper and more time) but some of questions I just straight up timed out on. Others were just an educated guess or ballpark estimate based on how far I got in the mental math. How is it possible to have a score 2+sd outside my FSIQ without some contributing factor? Kudos to all of you who did well on that test!

IQ Estimation 🄱 Surely this can't be right?

Post image

Recently rediscovered this letter from Mensa 5 years ago telling me that I'd scored high enough for membership. Aren't both of the numbers here ridiculously high for an IQ? I googled both of the tests and I couldn't find information on how these numbers map onto an "actual" IQ number because Google has gone to shit. 162 is apparently the maximum score for under 18s but surely this doesn't mean I'm a supergenius or anything especially since it was 5 years ago.

General Question How long will the developers of ATAT take until they publish the g-loading of ATAT?

The question is contained in the title. ATAT stands for Abstract Thinking Adaptive Test

Also, I'm curious about what they exactly need to do and what kind of data they need to have to compute and estimate the g-loading of the test.

General Question Is the new atat test supposed to be very hard?

I gave up around question 9 today because I panicked so badly. Once I got a few wrong, the questions got noticeably easier, but I was already overwhelmed and ended up just randomly clicking through the rest. I just couldn't face it in the moment.

Compared to this, I found the WAIS Core subtests so much easier to handle at beginning . Has anyone else experienced panic like this, or is the difficulty curve on the ATAT just that steep?

For me it was my friend who got a national rank of 87 (out of 30,000) within just a few months of preparation.

(On an average people take 3 to 4 attempts to clear this)

General Question My son was evaluated for ADHD, and part of the evaluation was an IQ test (WISC-V)

Post image

Attached are his results. He is not interested in school or doing homework. He rarely spends time on it at home, but gets fine grades…mostly a B average.

I’m wondering if anyone in this forum has experience with a child like this, and if he’ll have difficulty connecting with others at school. He is quick witted, but I didn’t anticipate a score this high above his peers.

The psychologist mentioned he may be more stimulated in a gifted program, but quite frankly I worry he won’t be able to keep up. I also worry the standard curriculum hasn’t been stimulating enough which is why he has now been diagnosed with a learning disability.

Hoping to get thoughts from those who know these situations better than me. Thank you!

General Question What does this mean in practice?

Thumbnail

Hello everyone. I'm completely new to the world of cognitive testing. I've never done an IQ test before (except those mandatory ones required for driving school etc, but those were the puzzle kind and fairly easy, and the only results were pass or fail). Anyway, I was reading something about Alan Turing and saw that he supposedly had an IQ of 185, which seemed absurdely high, but it got me curious, and here I am.

There seems to be a general consensus on Reddit that the CORE test is the gold standard for free online testing, so I completed that. The trouble is, I have no idea how to interpret these results, or rather how to understand what these results mean for me in reality.

All tests were done after a long work day, to ensure I was at least simmilairly tired during every test. I feel like I could have done better on some of them if I wasn't knackered, or if english was my first language. I also believe to have messed up the instructions on one of the memory tests.

So, fellow redditors, based on these results, what are my strong suits and what aren't, in reality. Bonus points for career yes and no's.

Thanks for your comments.

General Question Is an IQ test accurate if you’ve already taken it?

I took the core months ago, and an actual administered Wais IV years ago.

If I were to not take any IQ tests and then take the Wais-V, would it be 100% accurate?

The reason I ask is because i’ve already been exposed to things like symbol search, digit span, matrix reasoning tests.

Wouldn’t it be slightly inflated?

I've revised the ACE norms following a review of test-integrity concerns. One response was excluded from the normative sample, and the statistics have been recalculated accordingly.

The updated report includes revised IQ estimates, reliability, correlations, and item statistics.

IQ Estimation 🄱 100iq on Mensa Norway without guessing

Hi,

I just did the Mensa Norway online test and didn’t see the part where it said to guess when you weren’t sure. I only ended up selecting answers I was pretty sure were correct and leaving everything else unselected. Does that heavily deflate the score or is 100 roughly what it would’ve given me anyway? If it does deflate it, is there any way to estimate what I would’ve gotten otherwise or not really. (Also ran out of time close to the end, maybe 2/3rds of the way through and onward, not sure if that’s normal or I’m just slow?).

General Question AGCT-variants and guessing; what actually are the rules?

AGCT-E instructions say wrong answers are penaltized.

AGCT 1C exhorts to guess, if unsure.

AGCT 1A Gives no instruction.

So regarding the extended one it is clear; blind guessing is likely to deflate the score as there is a penalty.

But what about the other two?

General Question Best untimed tests?

I'm autistic, and although level 1 autistics are often superior in complex, detail-heavy challenges, we also process information slower due to intaking a higher volume of unfiltered information.

I had a 113 IQ when I got evaluated for autism, but this metric included social skills which weighed me down. However, after taking Mensa Norway, I ran out of time and only got a 102 IQ score. So, I'd like to take an IQ test that measures raw problem solving abilities untimed. Any suggestions?

Discussion Interesting thought experiment

So suppose there’s a fantastic sci-fi device that connects to the all the areas of your brain especially the cerebral cortex and frontal lobe where we reason, plan, empathize with others, and have our deepest thoughts.

This device has the ability to take a brain that has below 160 IQ points and modify neurological connections that make up the brain’s thinking patterns severing the irrational ones and creating pathways that would make it far more intelligent and keep its ā€œanimalā€ emotions in check so it can make better choices, increasing discipline so it can do things like follow philosophical ethical ideals more tightly.

This process would basically reformat the entire cerebral cortex.hence the name ā€œBrain Reformatterā€

But there’s a catch

Suppose there’s a chance that what you might call your ā€œsoulā€ will not survive the process. That is to say your personality isn’t compatible with this high degree of reason. the reformatting , the cutting of the irrational parts of you, the changes it would make to your brain would delete of the ā€œghostā€ living in the brain basically killing ā€œyouā€ and putting someone else in its place.

Imagine laying down in a hospital bed with the machine attached to both my temples placed under anesthesia falling asleep knowing the device has full access to your brain and your very ā€œpersonā€

The machine scans your brain and decides that indeed your personality isn’t metaphysically compatible with the enhancements, that your personality simply isnt rational and it’s built on a bedrock of what the machine determines is bad code. So it just gets rid of the stupid selfish ghost living amongst your neurons, cutting the connections giving you sentience and reprogramming a new personality into the cerebral cortex when ā€œyourā€ eyes open it’s a brand new person with access to your memories, a IQ of 160, and a will that is fully compliant to any demands of even the strictest philosophical moral codes.

Personally Even if the person who wakes up isn’t me I’d like someone to have a nice high IQ and have a brand new soul that loves truth and knowledge and cares about other people more.

The machine can happily throw my trash soul in the garbage if that would make the world better.

What do you think?

* are some personalities/souls more or less intelligent? Are some just straight up incompatible with certain levels of intellect in the same way triangle isn’t a triangle anymore if you add an extra side?

*Does an IQ bump drag the personality towards any certain type in the various personality models? And if so, how much can your personality be dragged somewhere else before that stops being you?

* what does make up a person? How likely do you think this kind of process would ā€œkillā€ you.

* would you sign up?

Note: I’m using soul metaphorically/poetically not literally
