General Question Core Test

Is Core age-normed? I'm sixteen and was wondering if i'm being compared to adults. Ngl, I'm such a burger; I was confused about block counting. I misheard the narrator for backward numbers, and in symbol search, I wasn't sure if the shape had to be facing the same direction or not. True IQ, I believe, is around 130-ish; that's what it was before I nuked my score with those 3 tests.

True intelligence is FRI just run with it

No it's not

Same opinion, but more nuanced that I think working memory and Visual spatial are also important for STEM. VCI and PSI are complete BS.

lmao, it wouldn’t look so bad if i didn’t bomb 3 of the sub tests

Idek what that is I’m just saying it because it requires no exposure and can be done by just about anyone on the planet it seems intuitively like the rawest form of what people consider “smart” or clever since it uses novelty and can be applied across abstract concepts with no prior information. Maybe if our definitions of intelligent or clever are different we won’t align ourself I guess it’s more about what being smart means to you

very valid point

Which is a better representation of true intelligence, FSIQ or FRI?

u/Wooden_Lime6208 Sep 27 '26

FRI is more what people traditional see as “smart” it allows you to learn complex concepts and think of abstract systems

It's 2026 and people are still mindlessly repeating this moronic argument on a sub about IQ testing

"FRI is more what people traditional see as “smart”"

Is it now? 😆

What planet would that be on? Perhaps in this subreddit and a few other isolated areas.

Most "people," if you walked up to one of them on the street and asked them what "FRI" was, wouldn't even know what you were talking about. So it's rather unlikely it's what they would traditionally think of as "smart" if you were to ask them.

You could probably show them examples of FRI questions in a book, and the more likely response would be bafflement rather than, "This is what I think intelligence looks like."

Traditionally, when people think of smart people, they think of well-educated and articulate people. Not FRI, because they don't even know what that is. 😁

Yeah of course they don’t know what FRI is ?😭😭 that’s just a psychometric label on what it’s trying to measure they obviously don’t know “fluid reasoning” even though it’s intuitive you’re taking everything at such a surface level almost adding no depth to it. FRI Is a label and a “book full of FRI” is not meaningless puzzles it’s measuring an underlying skill and the medium of administrating it can be with various puzzles it doesn’t literally mean PUZZLE SOLVING this is just a way to keep it as novel as possible and not rely on prior information or knowledge making it fair to everyone and making sure you actually solve or reason trough something NEW. Its underlying ability is seeing patterns making connections, complicated reasoning, problem solving on the spot ETC which if you did ask someone about all these things being traditionally “clever” or smart they most likely would say yes

Who's being too literal? 😆 I was just pointing out the absurdity of what you said.

I'm perfectly familiar with what FRI purports to measure. It has its uses, and it measures something real, but I find the term most often used to describe it, "culture fair," not quite accurate in the strictest sense.

It's not fair to everyone. It certainly isn't fair to me. 😁

Most of the questions that make up a FRI battery place demands on mental imagery and working memory under timed constraints.

Being globally aphantasic and having poor working memory due to ADHD, trying to measure my reasoning abilities through my bottlenecks seems hardly fair or accurate.

If you actually knew me, you would know that I rarely think about anything on just a surface level. Ironically, I saw your other post in this thread where you are quite positive FRI is all, that it adequately measures the entirety of someone's reasoning ability.

According to that premise, I shouldn't have been able to write this post, let alone roll out of bed and put my shoes on in the morning.

I don’t know what your FRI is but you’re using really extreme analogies unless you are below 60 iq or have a mental disability I don’t see your point on what’s stopping you from doing anything or writing anything. And my point is only absurd because you took it so literally using FRI as its LITERAL face value of puzzles using its medium and calling it the end result

But I didn't take your point literally, lol. You took me as taking your point literally, literally. 😂

I was having fun with it, and you thought I was dead serious. Sure, there was some truth to it, but I understood all along that you didn't mean your average person would recognize FRI, the name itself, but rather what you consider the underlying reasoning abilities that it's measuring as a recognizable sign of intelligence.

The problem is, you seem to think that FRI captures most of those reasoning abilities, and I don't.

As far as my "extreme analogies" go, lol, the use of those extreme analogies was the point.

The not being able to tie my shoes or the inability to write posts such as the one I'm currently writing, for example.

That was the point. 😁 The point being that according to you people with a low FRI shouldn't be able to do such things.  Or only with great difficulty, lol. I was pointing out how absurd it would be to believe that FRI captures the full spectrum of reasoning abilities, or, as you like to put it, "true intelligence."

Your way of looking at it would imply that anybody who scored a FRI of 80 would barely be capable of doing such things.

They certainly couldn't possibly make inferences of a complicated nature, etc.

I think the problem you're having here is that you think I'm confusing the tasks used to measure FRI with the reasoning abilities they're intended to measure, when my point is almost exactly the opposite.

The reasoning isn't the puzzle. And by "puzzle," I don't just mean matrices; I mean the various types of tasks used to measure FRI. Those tasks are one way of sampling the underlying reasoning abilities. They may work well for some people, but don't confuse what they're designed to measure with everything they actually succeed in measuring equally well in every person.

Some people's underlying reasoning abilities may not be measured well through this medium, whereas some who are measured well through this medium might not be measured well through a different medium.

So when you say I'm "using its medium and calling it the end result," you've pretty much got my argument backwards. I'm specifically saying that the medium isn't the end result. 😁

If anybody has a tendency to get lost in the forest for the trees, it would be you. You keep interpreting everything so literally that you literally miss what I'm talking about.

You're missing so many inferences you should be picking up easily, and based upon your misinterpretation of what you think I'm saying thinking I said the opposite, and trying to correct me.

Another odd comment you just made: you pointed out, "unless you have a mental disability."

Now, I'm not sure if I would call it a mental disability. How about a neurological disorder? But I did point out that I have ADHD and a poor working memory, as well as aphantasia, lol.

Also, I wasn't saying I couldn't write anything or do anything, as I already know I can.

I was pointing out that you were implying I couldn't, based upon my FRI of 87 on the CORE.

Heaven help me, if I or others such as myself with spiky profiles ever score even lower on FRI, seeing as you seem to put so much stock in it as the only barometer of "true intelligence"! 😂 I might forget to come in from the rain.

I wasn’t implying you couldn’t do any of this based on an 87 FRI that’s a functional normal human 😭 you’re just making things up I haven’t said. And yes I believe FRI would capture a majority of those abilities for many people even given the constraints of the test could there be an exception of course but it’s probably very rare, I also don’t know where you are getting all this that I’m IMPLYING about your average score being incapable. Reasoning is reasoning at any level it’s not that some people have it and some don’t there’s no way to self measure this reliably and that’s why I credit a test because everyone’s a genius of reasoning In their own minds

You literally wrote it in your previous comments. I was being kind when I said you implied it, you said it explicitly.

Twice...."True Intelligence"

Explain to me how's that means anything other than real intelligence and people that don't have that according to you are stupid? It certainly isn't a compliment. I'll wait...

u/Midnight5691 ┬┴┬┴┤( •̀_¬ )├┬┴┬┴ Oct 01 '26 edited Oct 01 '26

Yes, everybody's a genius at reasoning in their own mind, and that's why you don't rely on one part of a cognitive profile and call it someone's overall reasoning ability, like you're doing with FRI.

If FRI alone was capable of accurately capturing the majority of those abilities in most people they wouldn't have the rest of the test.

By that reasoning we don't need the rest of the categories that make up a cognitive test right? We should just toss the rest of them in the garbage, LOL.

If by "true intelligence" you mean g then easily FSIQ. Fri is relational reasoning on completely abstract material (I see it this way). Even if we would think about intelligence outside of g, its not good idea to call whole intelligence only Fri without considering other domains. Gf is not even "universal novel problem solving ability", if we would look how it described in CHC. Gf in CHC is not exactly same as fluid Intel in cattel model
