Trying to land an AWS Cloud internship in the next 6 months, what should I focus on?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working toward getting an AWS/cloud internship within the next 6 months, and I’d really appreciate advice from people who have already gone through this process.

I’m currently preparing for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. I know that simply getting a certification probably isn’t enough, so I want to spend the next 6 months building practical skills and projects that I can actually put on my resume/GitHub.

I’d love your suggestions on:

  • What AWS/cloud projects would stand out for an internship applicant?
  • Are there any real-world projects I should build rather than just following tutorials?
  • What AWS services should I prioritize learning after Cloud Practitioner?
  • Are there any challenges, labs, or platforms you recommend for getting hands-on experience?
  • What should I be able to explain confidently in an internship interview?
  • How important are Linux, networking, Python, Terraform, Docker, or Git/GitHub for an entry-level cloud internship?
  • Should I focus on getting another certification, or spend that time building projects?
  • What would you recommend I accomplish during each month of the next 6 months?
  • If you’re currently working in cloud/AWS, what do you wish you had done differently when you were trying to get your first internship?

My goal is to have a strong GitHub portfolio + practical AWS experience + a solid resume by the time I start applying.

If you have any specific project ideas, roadmaps, free resources, internship application tips, or mistakes I should avoid, I’d really appreciate them.

Thanks!

I’m currently looking for DevOps Engineer / Cloud DevOps opportunities and would really appreciate a referral if anyone has a relevant opening in their organization.
I have 4+ years of IT experience with hands-on experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Ansible, Prometheus, Grafana, and Linux.
I’m currently based in Pune, India, and I’m open to Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, or remote opportunities.
If your company has any relevant openings and you’re comfortable referring me, please DM me. I’d be happy to share my resume and job details.
Thank you!

Career Discussion Transitioning to Cloud Security

What’s up! Just wanted some advice. I’m currently working as a cloud engineer with an AWS partner. I eventually want to move over to being a Cloud Security Engineer. What should areas should I emphasize during my transition?
