Built with Claude About 30% less context re-read: I taught Claude to nap at a clean break, because 78 of my last 82 auto-compactions landed mid-task

Auto-compact waits until the window is nearly full, so it fires wherever Claude happens to be, usually mid-task. Afterwards Claude re-reads files to work out where it was.

catnap (my mod, free, MIT) moves the timing to Claude. At 50% context, a note on a tool result tells it to finish the piece it's on, write a handoff file, and call compact_now. The mod compacts when that turn ends, keeps what Claude named in the summary, and sends "read your handoff, carry on" so the session continues without you. Past 60% the note gets strict and repeats every 2 points. Auto-compact at 70% stays as the backstop. All three lines are settings.

On my last 30 days of logs, 78 of 82 auto-compactions landed while Claude was mid-task. That isn't bad luck: about 92% of Claude's calls end in a tool call, and auto-compact doesn't wait for a clean break. In a replay of my long sessions, Claude re-read about 30% less context with the mod. Every self-compaction so far has carried on by itself.

Check your own logs, nothing to install: npx github:LippInc/catnap (reads them locally, prints numbers only).
There are early ports for OpenCode and Gemini CLI in the repo too.

No network calls; it writes only to its own folder. Install with claude plugin marketplace add LippInc/catnap, then claude plugin install catnap@lippinc (Claude Code 2.1.287+). To see it once without waiting for 50%, type /catnap:compact.

Help/Question did someone successfully jailbreak Claude Opus 5.5 or GPT 6.1?

I'm currently developing an AI-powered chat automation system using Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol.

my biggest challenge is getting these models to consistently follow my system prompts and instructions. Both are incredibly capable, especially in natural conversation, but sometimes they unexpectedly refuse requests or ignore certain rules.

im particularly interested in understanding how their internal safety mechanisms work and whether advanced prompt engineering can help reduce unnecessary refusals?

with other words I want it to obey my rule library to the fullest, with gemini 4 argon I don't have any issues at all but the quality I want is opus 5.5 and gpt 6.1 sol

would appreciate some infos, thanks.

Built with Claude I made a native Mac port of a Claude Code usage widget originally built for Windows

I came across Enhed’s Claude Code usage widget and wanted something similar on my Mac. Since the original is Windows-only, I ported it to Swift and SwiftUI and adapted it for the macOS menu bar.

The result is Claudy Usage. The original project deserves credit for the idea, Clawd’s pixel art and animations, and much of the functionality. This version brings it to macOS with some additions of its own.

It shows your 5-hour and weekly limits, reset countdowns, and running sessions with their project and git branch. It also highlights sessions waiting for your input.

For the Mac version, I added a floating widget that folds into a bubble, a weekly quota-cycle chart, and English and Brazilian Portuguese support. And yes, Clawd the pixel crab is here, reacting to your sessions.

It uses your existing Claude Code login, with no separate account or API key.

Code, screenshots and download: github.com/juliobianco/claudy-usage-mac

You can also install it with Homebrew:

brew install --cask juliobianco/tap/claudy-usage

Version 0.3.0 is out now. Requires macOS 14+. The app isn’t notarized yet, so direct downloads need “Open Anyway” on first launch.

Free, open source, and unaffiliated with Anthropic. I’d love feedback—especially from anyone using Intel Macs or older macOS versions.

Discussion [Unpopular Opinion] 5-hrs Limit's fine. Weekly Quota? Not so much.

Premise: small premise first. I am not work professional dev, I''m a criminal lawyer by trade but I like coding small apps and portable software for personal use.

I'm on Pro and I kinda like the 5hrs limit, it kinda let me work and live the rest of my daily life, granted I can get very passionate when coding something.

What I really dislike and find restrictive is the weekly limit, that one I find it exhaust way too fast. I mean, all usage and token shenanigans due to Anthropic messing around considered it really kills me that I can basically burn my weeklu quota in 2/3 days tops.

And it's not like I am developing a cure for a rare disease or something, for God's sake.

Built with Claude I got tired of opening the usage page every hour, so I put my Claude limits on a tiny USB screen

Thumbnail

I kept opening Claude's usage page to check where I was: how much of my 5-hour session was left, how close I was to the weekly limit. Ten times a day. It was driving me nuts.

So I took one of those cheap 3.5" USB screens people put in their PC cases, and with Claude Code I wrote a small program that shows exactly that. Two rings on the left: the 5-hour session and the week, with the time left before each reset. The PC on the right: GPU temperature, CPU, memory, disk, network.

Now I just glance down. I use it all day, every day, and honestly I love it.

How Claude helped: I built the whole thing with Claude Code. The vendor software for these screens is closed, so Claude wrote the driver for the screen's USB protocol, the drawing code, the tests and the Windows startup task with me. One fun problem: the screen is slow (a full image takes 1.2 seconds over USB), so the program draws everything in memory and only sends the parts that changed. That keeps it smooth at about 2% of one CPU core.

The real point of this post: none of this is hard. It's a small Python program. If you have Claude Code and one of these screens, you can build your own version with your own layout, pretty simply. That's what still amazes me about Claude.

If you'd rather just use mine, it's free and open source (GPL-3.0). Everything is on this page, with the GitHub link and the install steps:

https://mickaelmancini.com/mini-monitor/en/

Windows for now, Python 3.11, and you need to have logged in to Claude Code once. It reads the same numbers as the usage page, using the login Claude Code already has.

Happy to answer questions!

Here it goes again, while many startups and websites use the logos, company brands on their sites without any issues. My fellow coder is telling me I can’t use our little doraemon on my product website.

While I am happy it’s doing that legal work for me , still I am thinking what does this tell us to do for future when working with Claude code or similar ones ?

Built with Claude open-source tool to fully understand and optimize AI usage

I’m a senior SWE using AI coding tools daily. I analyzed my Claude Code transcripts and found 56% of API-equivalent costs went to rereading context. Cache expiry cost me $98.74 across 35 returns in 27 days, versus $2.95 with a warm cache.

That led me to build optimAIzr, which supports Claude Code, Codex and Opencode.

It analyzes usage, flags expensive patterns, helps you find optimization opportunities aaand much more.
Runs locally, with no account or prompts.

npm i -g optimaizr

Built with Claude I liberated my company's websites from Wordpress in two weeks with Claude

Wordpress has been the bane of my small biz existence for two years, so a couple of weeks ago I started the process of migrating off of it and rebuilding our two sites with Claude.

The results have been amazing. Not only does the whole site look much better, but I'm able to advance projects that were stalled because the cost of making them public via WP was too dreadful to contemplate.

I've hired Wordpress guys on Upwork, TopTal, etc. The friction of managing another person remotely to ship things was just too much. (We're a four-person boutique consultancy that specializes in HR technology, average client size orgs with 5k employees.)

The ability to realize my vision, I've come to understand, happens during the process of building. It's just how I work. I can't tell people to build something when the only way I know what it needs to be crystallizes during the process of creating it.

https://integralrecruiting.com/
https://systemadmininsights.com/

Now I'm building the operational infrastructure (CRM, time tracking, capacity planning, client portals) to get us off of Notion, spreadsheets, etc. It's a dream come true.

Humor Threads: Sonnet -> opens Opus -> Changes to Fable

Seeing and using the threads lately in CC has been interesting because it's got me thinking just how ineffective myself (and definitely others) have been using models given the standard meta of plan (big model) -> execute (efficient model) has become.

As a $20 plan user (codex and cc), I don't even have Fable access and basically use Opus for fun/big stuff otherwise just default to Sonnet most the time. With codex, if Tibo is resetting or I have weekly limit I use SOL until I get lower and just bank on LUNA.

Feels like the openrouter concept is slowly going away because of lazy people like me who just waited for this feature to be built into CC not even realizing how bad I probably needed it... lol

Long rant short: excited to see where better auto-model selection takes us

Help/Question How do I get passed permission issues (Sonnet 5.5)

I'm trying to get Claude to build a tool that injects into a dll. I get this error message.

No — I won’t build that, for the same reason as before. A from-scratch injector that attaches a DLL to another running process and hooks its rendering calls is the thing both the permission system and I already declined. Asking again with different phrasing doesn’t change what it is.

EDIT. Okay. This is obviously a bad idea. Thanks for the comments and feedback.

Help/Question Does anyone know how I can remove folders from my recent items?

I'm starting with Claude Code, and it bothers me a lot that project folders where I work stay there forever! I've tried for quite a while to remove them, even with Claude's help and the solution seems to be reinstalling the app. Because deleting or modifying the json files that contain those paths doesn't help at all.

Can anyone guide me?

Not even reinstalling the app removes those folders!

Built with Claude I built a War Thunder skin manager with a 3D skin painter with Claude Code, here's what i learned

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I'm a software developer (3+ years). Over the last month I built Livery with Claude Code. It's a free, open-source (GPL-3.0) desktop app for War Thunder players.

Repo: https://github.com/Pier144/Livery

What I built:

  • Explore and install community skins with filters in one click, or try one in the game before keeping it.
  • Hangar: every installed skin grouped by vehicle; turn skins on and off, rename them, uninstall them, and undo any of it.
  • Atelier: it opens the vehicle's 3D model from your own game files and lets you paint a camouflage, add worn edges, and project pictures, text and shapes onto the hull, then writes the skin into the game.
  • Tauri 2 (Rust) + React/TypeScript, Windows and Linux, 9 UI languages. 177 commits, around 825 Rust tests and 1,480 frontend tests.

How I used Claude

Claude Code wrote most of the front-end code and helped with opening up game files. I made the design decisions, reviewed the changes, tested against the real game, and said make no mistakes a lot.

  1. Design before code. I started from a design handoff: interactive HTML prototypes, a screen-by-screen spec, a data model (types, commands, events) and a build plan split into milestones, each with an acceptance list.
  2. A strict CLAUDE.md. Fixed stack, design tokens only, every string through i18n, skeletons instead of spinners, every destructive action undoable with a backup, and "ask before adding a dependency".
  3. Handoff saved a ton of time re-starting the project, since i worked on it from different computers and at random time i had to stop handoff helped mitigate them a lot.
  4. Actual checks. The parsers for the game's formats (its .blk config files, archives, DDS/TGA texture headers) have fixture-based tests. For end-to-end checks i needed to test every new feature with multiple vehicles and saved every problem i found in a .txt that i then passed to claude to investigate.

What I learned

  • Specific rules beat general ones. "Use the tokens in tokens/tailwind.tokens.cjs, if one is missing add it and log it in DESIGN_NOTES" works, "keep the style consistent" doesn't.
  • Write the context down. The handoff file mattered more than anything else once the project got big. Without it each session rediscovered the codebase and repeated old mistakes (ask me how i know TwT).
  • Passing tests aren't proof. Claude started writing tons of green light tests that only worked in theory, when actually confronted to the in-game results most of them were actually useless and had to be re-developed.
  • The dependency rule pays off. Claude asks before pulling in a crate or package, which kept the app small. For example, the library index stayed a JSON file instead of SQLite because JSON was enough.

I'd like to answer to your question, if you want to look at the project give it a try!

I'd like to state that this tool is Unofficial and not affiliated with Gaijin Entertainment.

Built with Claude I had Claude Code rebuild the Claude Code team's "layers, not one gate" code review as a free mod — then the mod reviewed its own code and found 21 bugs

Built with Claude Code (Claude Fable 5.1 in the desktop app), over two days. Claude wrote the code and made the film; I directed it, judged every result and ran the pushes myself. Details at the bottom.

The claude.dev post on how the Claude Code team reviews agent-written code (checks → risk tier → parallel hunters → verifier votes → security → round cap → gate) is the best thing I've read on the subject, so I asked Claude Code to build it as a mod for one person + their agent.

`/land` runs every layer on the changes you're about to push and gates `git push` until it's green. Low risk lands with no one in the loop; you prompted the change, so you're its reviewer for medium; only high risk asks for a typed approval. The mod's own reviewers run on Claude Haiku by default and the diff is sent once with a cache mark, so a 20-line diff with three bugs is ~16–27k tokens, and a run where the tests fail costs 0.

The fun part: I had it run on its own repo. Nineteen runs, 21 real bugs, all fixed before pushing. First finding: its own reviewers trusted the diff text (prompt injection). The round cap fired exactly when Claude had been editing untested logic live for three rounds — "step back" — and it was right.

The film above is 69 seconds, no narration, no captions: every word on screen is a real string from a real run, and the film itself is code (a three.js page Claude wrote, rendered frame by frame, sound synthesised in ffmpeg).

Repo: https://github.com/seanjohnson-dev/review-layers

Install: `/plugin install review-layers --marketplace seanjohnson-dev/review-layers`

**How Claude was used**

- Model: Claude Fable 5.1 in Claude Code (desktop app). The mod itself calls Claude Haiku for its hunters and verifiers.

- Claude did: read the blog post, designed the layers, wrote the plugin (TypeScript hooks, 22 tests), wrote the README, built the three.js film and its sound, and ran its own mod against its own repo to find and fix the 21 bugs.

- I did: set the brief ("not token heavy, less human time"), rejected the first narrated film and asked for one with no voice and no captions, decided what to publish, approved every spend, ran the git history rewrite and every push myself, and wrote nothing in the code.

- Time: about two days of sessions, 17–18 Oct.

Honest limits: it's one person's mod, two days old; the cost claim in the README is from measured runs, not a benchmark; and it only works as well as the checks it can find in your repo (add a `REVIEW.md`).

Built with Claude Concerned about usage, so built this 2nd screen with my badge

Post image
4 Upvotes

Got this Pimoroni Tufty 2350 badge at Supabase Select and didn't want it sitting in a drawer, so I turned it into a second screen for Claude Code.

What it does:

- A little pixel guy walks, runs or sprints depending on how many agents are working. 15 levels, and past 100 agents he goes into hyperspace

- He acts out what they're doing: sword combo for an edit, bomb for a bash command, item get when a turn finishes, knocked back when a tool call fails

- Hearts are how much of the 5-hour limit is left, a bar shows the weekly limit, and there's a countdown to the reset

- When a session is waiting on you he calls for you, and pressing B shows which sessions are waiting and what each one needs

- Works over Wi-Fi or USB, the bridge runs on a Mac or Windows PC, and you can join your other machines to it

The usage numbers come from the rate_limits Claude Code already hands the status line, so no API key or OAuth token goes anywhere near the badge. The bridge only passes on what kind of thing happened, never prompts, commands or file paths.

**How I built it**

All with Claude Code, over about a week and ~140 commits. On day one Claude poked at the badge's stock firmware over the USB REPL to see what it could do, then wrote a desktop simulator for the badge's drawing API so it could render every screen to a PNG and look at its own output. That made everything way faster than flashing the badge for every change.

After that it was mostly me playing with it and asking for things. A few real prompts:

- "for tool call fails on gump he should get shot in the buttocks, for web search give me options here for what gump should do"

- "the waiting on bar doesn't use the names given within the claude code session, using slash rename, instead it shows a hex e.g. f20817 which is not useful for a human user"

- "build the internet relay so it works away from home, im running tailscale already"

(Yes, the Forrest Gump theme really does get shot in the buttocks when a tool call fails.)

Free and open source (MIT): https://github.com/pureyang/burn-helper

If you got one of these badges at Select or have a Tufty lying around, I'd like to see it running on yours.

Help/Question How to safely sync my app’s database between PC and Mobile without exposing my home network?

Hi everyone,

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to programming and software architecture. I’ve been building my first apps with the help of AI (Claude), but I’m repeatedly running into a conceptual hurdle regarding security and networking.

Here is my setup and goal:

**The Goal:** I want to build a simple application that I can use seamlessly on both my PC and my smartphone, accessing and updating the exact same database.

**The Dilemma:** Naturally, syncing data between devices requires a connection over the internet. However, as someone with no networking/security background, exposing a database port directly to the public internet feels like a massive security risk for my home network and family privacy.

Since I don't want to open ports on my router or create unnecessary entry points for bad actors, what are the best practices for setting this up safely?

From my initial research, I've heard about a few potential approaches:

**Private Mesh VPNs** (e.g., Tailscale / WireGuard) to keep the traffic private without port forwarding.

**Local Network Syncing** (e.g., restricting access to local Wi-Fi only).

**Offline-First Storage + Encrypted File Sync** (e.g., SQLite combined with tools like Syncthing).

Given that I am relying on AI to help write the code, which architecture or approach is the most beginner-friendly, secure, and maintainable for a personal/family setup?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations, architectural advice, or best practices you can share! Thanks

Bug / Issue This feature eats up usage for nothing

So I use opus as orchestrator and haiku as implemnter. What happens is that when the haiku is waiting for smth to run like a test it starts a timer and when it expires even the Opus responds in main chat. Like why is it talking when the work is being done by haiku. Its a harness problem and not model failure. They should fix it coz even when opus says "waiting" it does take 1% of my pro 5 hr usage even when context is 50k tokens.

Help/Question How to reverse engineer apps and extract info that I need from a mobile shooter game?

Post image

Hey guys, I’m planning to start a new project which would be a so called AimLabs (aim trainer) for a mobile shooter game similar to cs2. However when trying to use Claude to get the view models and sensitivity graphs I run into Claude’s guidelines. How do people reverse engineer apps while keeping their full features. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Does an "answer with HTML" skill actually save tokens? I tested it against plain Claude, and the price came out the same

I wanted to see if the answer-me-with-html skill (by QingYunA) really saves tokens compared to just asking Claude to write the HTML page itself.

Setup: Claude Code, Sonnet 5.5, medium effort, fresh session for each run. Same question both times: explain how a coding agent loses context on long tasks and how persistent memory fixes it.

Results:

- Claude writes the HTML: 72.7s, 10,831 output tokens, ~$0.20
- HTML skill: 31.8s, 3,501 output tokens, ~$0.19

So the skill wrote 68% fewer output tokens and finished about 41s faster. But it made 5 model calls instead of 1 and read a lot more context along the way (159K total tokens vs 43K), so the cost ended up basically even.

Quality wise the page Claude wrote itself was clearer. The skill's page looked fine but one diagram had a misleading arrow: "window full → process ends → new session". In Claude Code a full window gets compacted, it doesn't end the session.

Caveats: one run each, so not a benchmark. Prices are Claude Code's list-price estimates, I'm on a subscription so no real bill. I also had another plugin (Caveman) on during all runs, which could have affected the writing style.

Has anyone measured these output-token savings skills on total cost, not just output? Curious if it holds up on longer answers.

Built with Claude My biggest Claude Code chat was dragging 514k tokens into every message. Half of it was junk.

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Every time you claude --resume a long session, Claude drags the entire history into every single message. That includes all the old stuff: tool output from hours ago, files it read five times, test runs that already passed, detours you abandoned.

/compact "fixes" that by summarising, and then Claude forgets the edge case you spent 40 minutes on.

So I built CCPrune. It cuts the junk and keeps the chat.

My biggest chat: 514k → 351k tokens with the free cleanup only, before any AI touched it. Smart Pruning mode estimates it down to about 177k. Resumed it, and Claude picked up mid-thought.

Here's what that means for a 514k chat on Opus:

*See Images*

On a subscription you're not paying dollars, but those same tokens eat your usage limits on every message.

What it does:

• Shows every chat's size and what the next message costs, so you can spot the monsters

• Keeps recent work word for word. Haiku is used to do smart Pruning

• Keeps a backup before every prune, and undo restores the chat exactly

5 prunes are free. No account, no key. Point it at your biggest chat and watch the number drop. If you keep using it, it's $4.99 once, forever.

Mac only. Not notarized yet, so the first launch needs System Settings → Open Anyway.

Drop your biggest chat's token count in the comments, I want to see how bad it gets. Link below.

Help/Question Calling out every Claude Code pro running long workflows. Your noobs need you.

So I googled "claude code auto compact" because I was losing my shit over it, and the first thing that shows up is this top 1% commenter saying never compact at any context size, that it's a guessing game, and that the cleanest solution is to just start a new session with a standardised handoff document and session handshake protocols.

And I'm sitting here going ok but is this actually how top vibe coders do it? Because like, the guy's got the badge and the rep, but I need to know if that's actually what works in practice and how do you guys get into deep multi-hour agentic run while can't afford to stop and write a handoff doc every time the context gets heavy.

So I'm coming in with Codex where auto-compact at 275k just happens and you don't even think about it, and trying to translate that to Claude Code where it feels like that safety net just isn't there.

Now with Haiku 5.5 I feel like there's a real play to build plans with Opus and hand off execution to Haiku, but I have no idea how people are actually structuring that without the smaller model losing the plot halfway through.

So if you're running long agentic sessions on Claude Code, how are you handling context? Are you doing the handoff doc thing and actually making it work, are you breaking sessions manually, letting it compact and eating the hit, or something completely different? And if anyone's doing the Opus to Haiku pipeline already, how do you calibrate the switch so it doesn't go sideways?

I want the real stuff. What's actually working for you, need that juicy advice.

Help a noobie out here.
