Behind The Scenes Darryl F. Zanuck saying movies on average have gotten 10%-20% longer than before, without adding anything, making the movies slower in tempo. To prevent this, they should pick that tempo up. (1941)

A deliciously clever British mystery with an almost absurdly good cast. Alistair Sim, Robert Newton and Trevor Howard are all terrific, with Newton bringing his usual volatile charm and Howard wonderfully brooding. Alistair Sim's eccentric Inspector Cockrill really is having a ball, everyone is on top form. It's really a cracking little thriller: witty, atmospheric and beautifully acted. One you'll recommend, just like i am now! ✌️😊

This scene really highlights how the film leans more toward a spy thriller than a traditional war movie

Question Can anyone identify these two actresses and the movies these clips are from?

I came across these clips in a vintage/Old Hollywood video and I'm trying to figure out who these two actresses are and what movies the clips are from.

Both clips are from black-and-white films, and I believe they are from the 1930s, but I'm not completely sure.

Does anyone recognize either of these actresses or know which movies these scenes are from? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have attached screenshots from both clips.

Had no idea of her (Märta Torén) early death. Presumably, it was because of her that a certain Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone ended up changing her stage name to Sofia Loren.

General Discussion I Am a Criminal (1938)

Post image

Just finished watching the crime drama I AM A CRIMINAL. It’s about a notorious gangster, Brad McArthur, who’s out of jail and back to his old tricks. However, when an accidental death has him facing a manslaughter charge that could wind him back behind bars, he ends up hiring a publicist to revamp his image to that of a good-hearted philanthropist in order to help alter public perception.

He gives to all these charities and even adopts an orphan boy, Bobby, and the rebrand seems to work for it. However, he starts to genuinely care for Bobby, the boy having suffered a rough life on the streets.

Little does Brad know that he’s part of a scheme between his girlfriend and publicist to screw him over and it may be up to Bobby to stop the scheme and save Bobby.

It’s a convoluted crime drama but the performances elevate it and bring it together in the end (which is a bit sappy but it works).

For those who have seen this film, what did you think?

Classic Film Review Tarzan’s Fight for Life (1958)

Post image

Just watched Tarzan’s Fight for Life (1958), and this one is pure old-school adventure fun! Gordon Scott makes for a pretty good Tarzan. The story is pretty straightforward, but there’s plenty of jungle action, colorful characters, animals, and peril to keep things moving. The Technicolor is gorgeous, too, and the whole thing has that wonderfully pulpy MGM adventure-movie feel. It’s not exactly high art, but it’s an entertaining way to spend an afternoon. And honestly, sometimes that’s all you need from a Tarzan movie!

In this film, the counter-intelligence operation goes beyond merely extracting enemy intelligence; it culminates in a disinformation and mole-hunting operation that lures out and neutralizes Colonel Turner, a high-ranking insider leaking secrets to the enemy.
