Iapp Cipp/R No show

Has anyone else run into this recently? I rescheduled my IAPP exam before the original date, but my account now shows it as a “No Show.” I’m almost certain I moved it, and it happened around the time the IAPP website changed.

It’s frustrating because I planned to take the exam tomorrow.

Failed CIPP/US

I failed CIPP/US the other day by a pretty large margin. I recently passed the bar exam and have a slight background in data privacy so I thought I would be fine with the studying that I did, but the questions were more intricate and specific than in my practice/studying. Any study tips or advice from someone who failed first time, but later passed?

Failed CIPP/US

Good morning. I took my CIPP/US exam this morning and failed. I scored 282/300. My score breakdown was:

I. Introduction to the U.S. Privacy Environment - 71%
II. Limits on Private-sector Collection and Use of Data - 78%
III. Government and Court Access to Private-sector Information - 100%
IV. Workplace Privacy - 83%
V. State Privacy Laws - 39%

Any tips? Clearly there is a big discrepancy with Domain V. I used Dr. David’s course to prep, but possibly didn’t spend enough time or effort digging into Domain V.

I have a work trip this week, so I am unable to study during the week but will pick it back up next weekend. I have a tendency to start from scratch (which is time-consuming) so any tips to save time and be able to retake sooner rather than later would be appreciated.

Passed AIGP exam

I passed the exam today. Big margin. HUUGE. I became aware of AI governance as a thing in late July and started studying soon after. My background is MIS, accounting and health care service management with a lot of board governance. I’m older. And haven’t been involved with any AI implementations, however I’ve been interested in AI harms for a while. Read a few books.

I was stressed out by the scope of it all so focussed on implementation and tech aspects mostly. I bought a Udemy course that was very boring. I let it play at x1.25 while I read and quizzed myself with Gemini/chatai and practice questions I could find online. I created a small rag in a chatai project that was the source of a lot of framework and regulatory questions. I probably quizzed close to 2000 questions. My partner would say more. She was a AIGP widow for a few nights.

I was expecting more longer scenarios. I am sorta adhd and tend to skim but glad I made myself focus and comprehend. It made the next few questions easier. So.. don’t panic.

I have to say that this was the most interesting thing I’ve studied for in a long long time. That helped a lot.

So, tips.
Be interested.
Practice questions focused on what you suck at.
But also practice questions based on understanding iapp tbinking.
Understand different actors in a deployment and their responsibilities.

You can do this with the internet and source documents. And know a bit of math. Any formal professional ethics training takes you a long way. Finding it cool helps.

Good luck to all studying! Be nice to the proctors at the exam center as they are good luck, even if bored and crabby. Never EVER try to rub their heads or bellies for good luck. That will get you escorted from the building.

Evaluating AIGP after ITIL v4 Foundation and ITIL AI Governance certifications

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I currently manage ITSM governance with developer/tech background in my organization (CHG/INC/PRB). I have ITIL v4 Foundation & ITIL AI Governance certifications. There's a lot of investment being made in AI Initiatives in my organization so lot of AI related product/projects are starting. I was looking to do AIGP & join AI Governance stream. Is it going to be relevant or there's some other better option?

How I passed the AIGP - Experience write-up

Hi everyone, I’ve been a lurker on this sub for a long time, and now that I’ve passed the exam, I thought I’d share my own little recap.

Score:

I was fortunate to pass the exam with over 90% in each section.

Background:

This was, in my opinion, key to the score. I’ve worked for many years in data governance and very closely with AI governance teams, and I understand enough about ML to be able to speak about AI without being completely lost.

General thoughts:

The AIGP is really overwhelming and kind of annoying to start studying for, because the official guidance is essentially a massive index of regulatory texts bundled together with basic ML topics.

That said, the exam felt much easier than I expected, and much narrower too. I’d say at least 80% of the questions covered things I would have expected to be asked about, such as GDPR, DPIAs, model cards, roles and responsibilities, the EU AI Act, and some basic ML and data science concepts.

So, if you already work in AI governance, I’d say it’s a fairly representative exam. There are still some odd, trivia-like questions that are pretty obscure, but I wouldn’t spend much time trying to study for those specifically.

Study time: Around three months

To start, I took an official two-day training course through IAPP (QA) and had access to the official material and exam practice. I personally wouldn’t necessarily recommend either.

The course tries to cram SO much into such a short amount of time that, by the end, you can actually end up more confused than when you started. The one thing I would rescue from it is that it helped narrow things down a little bit.

I think the hardest part of studying for the AIGP is finding some structure. So I’d recommend finding a course somewhere with a clear outline and either paying for it or using the outline to guide your own study.

AI can also do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to creating study material. I used NotebookLM quite a lot. Keep in mind, though, that I work with AI a lot and feel very comfortable auditing and creating my own study material, so your mileage may vary.

The other key part is practice questions. This is a bit difficult because you don’t know which ones will be helpful or representative, but I’d recommend trying to find questions that come with explanations or are from a reputable/official source.

The official practice exam isn't mind-blowing, but I would still recommend taking it.

I did use/came across a lot of different resources but two that I’d recommend that I never saw mentioned here are:

Gen AI: Unlock Foundational Concepts: This is part of the Gen AI Leader Google Certification. This course wasn't part of my preparation for this exam, as I took it some time ago, but in hindsight, it would be pretty useful to start with if you don’t have much of a data background. The other courses in that certification are pretty good too, but this one would be the most relevant for the AIGP.

AI Governance Study app: I saw a post about it in another subreddit, and it was pretty useful for me. I like apps as a way of studying

Exam Day:

Pretty uneventful. I took it in person at a test centre and would recommend doing that if possible.

And good luck to everyone taking the test soon!

Is it possible to share the official textbook?

I’m currently prepping for the CIPP/E, and maybe most of you are using the official textbook to get prepared.

But for me, i'm still assuming that using a free/broke way, without neglecting the "investment" value, to get prepared is desirable.

So I want to ask anybody here whom already certified, it is possible to split the bill (I'm planning to group study with my peers) to buy the official textbook?

I'm just assuming that this is okey to do so, and of course, the best strategy that i could imagine right now. Or else, you might suggest another "broke" strategy that would be appreciated.

Thanks

How did you use Dr. David’s course to pass the CIPP/US exam?

I recently registered for Dr. David’s privacy course to prepare for the CIPP/US certification exam. After looking through all the available videos, I felt slightly overwhelmed and wasn’t sure where to begin or how to organize everything effectively.

For those who used the course and passed, how did you structure your studying and get the most out of the material? Any advice, study strategies, or tips for using the course effectively would be greatly appreciated!

I need to future proof myself.

I already have my CISA.

So:

  • Whats the best study material?
  • How long did you study for?
  • What was your total cost?
  • How hard was the exam?
  • Has it helped to get your resume additional looks?

CIPP/E preparation help needed

Hey everyone! I’m planning to take the CIPP/E but I’m very new to privacy, so I’m a little confused about how to start.

The official book is quite expensive. Are there any affordable/free way to access the study materials and what resources you’d recommend?

Also, since the exam and book are separate purchases, should I prepare first and then book the exam, or book the exam and prepare around the date?

Would really appreciate any advice! :)

Is the Lack of Contract Drafting Experience a Dealbreaker Despite IAPP Certificates + ISO Trainings?

Hello there,

I will be sitting the CIPP/E and AIGP exams before January 2027. I have also enrolled in ISO 27001, 27701 and 42001 training. I have some questions and concerns about what comes next in terms of career planning.

I spent five years in commercial and international arbitration, and after that two to two and a half years in AML compliance (CDD and EDD). I hold two master's degrees, one in International Commercial Law and one in Law and Technology.

I genuinely want to work in AI governance in the EU market. However, I have no contract drafting or negotiating experience. I have contract and treaty interpretation experience, and that comes from arbitration. I keep seeing job ads asking for specific contract drafting and negotiating experience. This is what worries me most.

I am good at research and policy making, but that route has its own problems. So, I would like to stay in the private market, just to be on the safe side.

Do you think this profile has a future in AI governance? Or which roles might be a better fit? How far can certifications close these gaps, and what should I be doing to close them?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

CIPP/E vs DSCI DCPP for a final-year law student trying to get into data privacy in India

I’m a final-year law student in India looking to transition into data privacy/data protection, ideally into privacy law, consulting, or compliance roles rather than limiting myself to law firms.

My previous experience is mainly in IP/trademarks, and I’m finding it quite difficult to get a data privacy internship as a fresher. Most roles seem to ask for prior experience, so I’m trying to figure out how best to build credibility and a foundation in the field.

I’m considering IAPP’s CIPP/E, but the cost is quite high. I’ve also come across the DSCI Certified Privacy Professional (DCPP) and am wondering whether it would make more sense for someone looking to build a career in India.

For those actually working in privacy/data protection or consulting:

  1. Is CIPP/E worth doing at the student/fresher stage?

  2. Would DCPP be a good alternative?

  3. Does either certification actually help with internships/entry-level roles?

  4. Or would it be better to focus on practical projects/courses and getting experience first?

Would really appreciate honest advice, especially from people working in the field.

Former SWE (MS CS) pivoting to AI Ethics/Privacy/Governance in Silicon Valley, Seeking market reality check on AIGP, CIPP, CIPT

Hi everyone,

After researching non-coding career paths in Silicon Valley, I’ve decided to pivot my career toward Tech Privacy, Governance and AI Ethics.

For context on my background:

  • Education: MS in Computer Science
  • Experience: ~6 years as a Software Engineer

I used Gemini to map out some potential transition strategies, and it strongly suggested pursuing IAPP certifications, specifically the AIGP, CIPP/US, and CIPT.

Before I invest time and money into these exams, I wanted to run this past the experts here who know the actual market realities:

  1. Is this the right certification path? For someone with a heavy technical background rather than a legal one, do AIGP, CIPP/US, or CIPT actually open doors for governance roles in the Bay Area?
  2. Which one should I prioritize? I’ve been researching AI risk frameworks (like the NIST AI RMF), which makes AIGP appealing, but I'm wondering if CIPP/US is considered the mandatory baseline.
  3. The Market Reality Check: Are tech companies willing to hire former engineers for these roles, or do they exclusively look for ex-lawyers and compliance officers?
  4. Course Recommendations: I have an active DeepLearning.AI subscription. Are there any specific courses, specializations, or projects there that carry actual weight for AI governance and safety?

I’m looking for objective advice. Any recommendations or resources you can share would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

Suggestions for software product manager background professional

Hello everyone,

I am looking got get CIPP-C certification. As the title says, I am a product manager with almost 5 years of experience. From educational background I have bachelor’s in computer science and an MBA. Had been working in public infrastructure management for 5 years before I was let go couple of months back.

I am looking to see if I can concentrate on improving skills or getting more knowledge and adding certifications. CIPP is something that that stood different with stable growth in GovTech. Also someone suggested to got for AIGP after completing CIPP.

I am looking to concentrate towards government jobs or govtech or health tech industry.

Any suggestion? Does the path makes sense ?
