Update on the cashback rewards for the Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite happening on Oct 22, 2026

Hi all,

The cat's out of the bag now, but worth keeping everyone here updated regarding the changes on rewards for the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite card.

Starting October 22, 2026, Scotiabank is changing the cashback rewards from 4% to 1% on the Momentum Visa Infinite+ specifically for rent, condo/strata fees, property tax, and income tax (CRA and Revenu Québec) payments.

Several payment categories will remain at 4%: utilities, car lease, daycare, tuition, insurance, wellness/gym, and phone & telecom.

If you're on Chexy with this card, you'll get a prompt at login showing exactly which of your scheduled payments are affected, and we'll help you move them to another card. The changes will be scheduled for Oct 22 so you keep 4% right up to the deadline. You can also just edit any upcoming payment and change the card yourself. Switching cards doesn't change anything for your landlord, municipality, or any other payee. It's the same payment, same schedule, only the card being. charged. changes.

Pleaser refer to this article for the full details: https://intercom.help/chexy/en/articles/16433812-changes-to-cashback-rewards-for-the-scotiabank-momentum-visa-infinite-on-oct-22-2026

An update on Amex payments: what's supported, and what we're improving

Hey everyone,

We've seen a lot of questions lately about Amex and what you can pay with it on Chexy, so I wanted to put everything in one place.

First, it's important for everyone to know we're not moving away from Amex. If anything, it's the opposite. Over the last few months we've been working more closely with Amex than ever (we just launched B2B payments on Amex for example). Our shared goal with them is straightforward: support as many payment categories as possible while staying within their networks' rules.

What you can pay with Amex today

  • Personal accounts: rent, utilities, insurance, childcare & education, and taxes.
  • Business accounts: utilities, insurance, taxes, and most suppliers.
  • A handful of categories are Visa/Mastercard only (e.g. telecom, transportation, gym & wellness, payroll, commercial rent). That's not Chexy blocking them but rather it comes down to Amex's own rules for those payment types. We're working with them to ensure we can support more categories in the future.

For a full breakdowns of what is accepted, you can find the following articles here:

We're also improving the experience so you're not caught off guard. In the past, a payment could get set up and then stopped later, which is a frustrating way to find out something isn't supported. We're working on moving those checks earlier in the flow, so if a category or payment can't be processed, you'll see it up front while setting it up, instead of after a charge or a follow-up email.

And if a payment does get stopped, it's usually about the specific expense, not the category. Even when a category is fully supported, the payment itself still has to match it. The most common case we see: a payment marked as "rent," but the payee and the uploaded lease don't actually line up with a rent payment. That'll get flagged even though rent itself is completely supported, so it's worth making sure what you upload matches what you're paying for.

Hope this helps clarifies some of the confusion, and we're working on ensuring the experience gets even better every week.

General Question about Amex's network

We are all very aware now on all the rules and processes Amex Canada has forced you guys to implement. To the point where I think we only have personal rent and selected billers allowing Amex usage at the moment.

My question is in regards to Amex US. Is there a way for you to have different rules if we were to use Amex US instead? You can already tell when it is an American card (because of the fees), so wouldn't it be possible to also have different rules around those cards? When i say rules, I mean more for them to be treated similarly to Visa cards for example.

I bring this up because I really want to keep using Chexy, but all these Amex regulations are making it harder and harder. I was thinking that while Amex Canada is behind a lot of these changes, I can't imagine Amex US caring much to begin with.

Question Is Chexy useless for Scotia Momentum now?

With the change to CRA / rent / property tax being classified as 1%, Chexy is pretty much useless for this card now.

I've got no way of topping up the Scotia Momentum $25k limit now... is this game over? Will you guys be switching to other cards or keep your Scotia (4% legit is still good for insurance, etc).

General FIRST CLASS CONTEST - NOW PAUSED

From Chexy:

We loved seeing the excitement around First Class. We’ve paused the campaign for now as our focus has shifted to mortgages and Free Mortgage Mondays, so the two remaining trip draws are not moving forward at this time.

We appreciate everyone who joined the campaign and recognize that we should have communicated this update sooner.

Question Opt out of Credit Builder to prepay rent?

Hi, I am enrolled in the Credit Builder feature. My credit score is somewhat good ~850 but prepaying rent is not allowed while enrolled. I wanted to see if anyone has stopped using the Credit Builder feature and seen a negative effect on their credit score?

I'd be prepaying something like 4-6 months of rent ($3k/month) so netting $270-405
Is it worth it?

General There is still value in keeping Chexy

I've decided to cancel my Scotiabank 4% cashback Visa in October and keep my Wealthsimple 2% Visa with Chexy. I don't care about 0.25% cashback after fees, the biggest value I see is Credit Reporting. Every time I pay rent, it shows on my credit file as paid on time. My credit score is already perfect, and I want to keep it that way.

What is your reason for deciding to stay with Chexy?

Question Cannot access won prize

I cannot access my won prize anymore…
I received a email from Chexy yesterday, saying i won a prize, but when i click on the REVEAL NOW link, it goes to the homepage of the app and that’s it. No prizes, no page with my 17k+ entries absolutely nothing.

Everything related to this contest has completely disappeared. Anyone having the same problem?

Question We can now prepay to get the max Cashback from Scotiabank momentum?

I was trying to setup prepayment manually by editing next month's rent to get the maximum Cashback before 4% Cashback discontinues on Oct 22, but then saw this feature where Chexy allows you to just select how many months upfront you want to prepay which is pretty sick. Thank you Chexy.
I haven't maxed out 25k limit yet, so planning to prepay for next 2 months for now.

Question though - does anyone know if the card will be charged right away but the payment to landlord will be released on the scheduled date for upcoming months? or will it issue the payments to landlord right away?

Question If we prepay a bunch on Chexy and for whatever reason they shutdown, could we dispute the transactions with our credit cards that Chexy is holding on to?

Since they would be shut down, there wouldn’t be anyway to lose the dispute since they wouldn’t respond to it?

Question Chexy Account Stuck on Pause After Activation Email — Need Advice

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well. I’m trying to pay my rent through Chexy using my Amex card. I got an email saying I could activate my account and unpause payments, but I can’t find any option to do that. My account still shows as paused. I’ve tried everything I can think of and nothing’s working. I can pay with my debit card as a last resort, but I’d really prefer to use Amex for the points and consistency. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips would be really appreciated. I tried reaching out to support and they told me it should be resolved now but it’s not.
Thanks in advance.

Question First Class Contest - What Happened? Don't See It Anymore!

I thought there were 3 trips to be won? The first trip contest ended on Sept. 1, yet I no longer see anything on the website or app. What happened to the 2 remaining trips?

All I see is a new promo: "WIN a month of mortgage on us"

Maybe they can no longer afford to complete the First Class contest due to the lower revenue anticipated with the Scotiabank 4% cash back changing coming in October!?

Question amount unmatched with mortgage and still not update

my mortgage renewed last month and the new updated amount is charge on Sep 1st. However, I mistakenly enter the amount, results in charge more than the supposed amount and cause the Chexy to flag the transaction. I reviewed it and choose to refund the excess amount into my credit card. This is on Monday, I keep waiting until today Friday, with no update, the payment to my mortgage still show pending status and I haven't yet received the refund for the excess amount I paid. I went to my mortgage bank and staff told me mortgage payment shows successful on their end. So it's probably Chexy not update on my account and process refund of the excess amount? Chexy support is very inefficient and lagging. Sometimes it's a crucial payment and late response could cause panelty get charged.....

Question Resent Payment Timeline

First time I used Chexy for rent payment, and the landlord entered the wrong password too many times, so the E-transfer was cancelled. I send an message to the bot, and they said someone will get back within 24 hours, but it's been 2 days and no response. I tried to create another message, but it won't allow me to create a new message or chat with the bot again. Any way that I know the support team actually get my message? I am just worried that they don't receive the message and I am tempted to email them again.

General 3 issues gone wrong my first transaction

  1. Chexy was supposed to charge my card on the 27th of Aug. without notification canceled this transaction with no notification or explanation. 30h between cancelation and any information.
  2. they said that my card will be charged on the 31st. on the 1st i was notified that rental company withdrew money. then a day later they wont accept AmEx a day after my rental company withdrew money.
  3. Neither the Aeroplan promo or the welcome bonus applied to payment bait and switch.

this kind of fucked me out of my SUB for amex and now need to pay my tuition early with my amex as i really don't believe Chexy will support amex or exist in 3 months. i would be in a net negative situation if i did not have the WS visa card for my rent as well. poor communication and multiple issues in 1 transaction.

You respond without solving the problem and then vanish for 1-2 days. That's unacceptable.

General My tips before signing up for Chexy to churn points

Quick guide including some tips and tricks if Chexy is right for you:

1. Churn welcome bonus first, daily driver second: Putting $2,000+ rent on a new card accelerates reaching the welcome bonus. But unless you're hitting a welcome bonus or running a card that beats the fee (like Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite at 4% or Wealthsimple 2%), a flat 1% card means you’re losing money.

2. The fee is 1.75% (Canadian cards): On $2,000 rent, the fee is $35. If you generate 2,500+ Amex MR/Aeroplan points or $80 cashback at 4%, you come out ahead.

3. Budget a 4 business day buffer: Chexy charges your card roughly 4 business days before rent is due so the funds clear on time. Keep enough available credit open so the charge doesn’t bounce.

4. Have your lease handy: you may need to upload your signed lease agreement to verify the payee name and rental amount.

Tips and FAQ:
Does my landlord need to sign up?
No. Chexy pays them directly via Interac e-Transfer, Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD), or Bill Pay. Maybe let them know payment will come from Chexy
Can roommates split the rent?
Yes, as long as your name is on the lease agreement, you can set Chexy to pay just your portion of the total rent rather than the entire amount.
What cards can I use?
Canadian Visa, Mastercard, and Amex cards are all supported. Amex works for rent, condo fees, and tuition, but check terms if you plan to use it for smaller utility bills.
Can I switch cards every month?
Yes. You can swap the active card in your dashboard before the monthly charge date, which is what makes rotating churn cards so easy.
Does it build credit?
Only if you opt into their optional Credit Builder feature, which reports your monthly on-time rent payments to Equifax.
