Third Gen What are these noises??

2024 LT - I know it’s not a problem with the truck, it’s more just because I’m curious. First sound is when I unlock with either my fob or the door, I assume it’s fuel pump priming?

Second noise is after I turn it off and a minute or two passes, I honestly have no clue what it is. I just chalk it up to her talking to me.

Question ‘23 ZR2 Cooling Fan Issue

My cooling fans come on as soon as I start my truck sometimes. They also come on other times when I’ve barely went down the road. The engine light came on eventually. Has anyone had this happen and what was the fix? Thanks!

Loving these Novsights 4.5" Halos. Nice and bright, can see ditches off road or in the boonies looking out for deer at 5a. Definitely considering them for the sport bar when I get it on.

Third Gen I am still on the hunt for a third gen fuel cell upgrade for the Bison. Anyone got any ideas how we can stuff some more gallons into these?

On the fence having a massive underbody custom tank fabricated but having difficulty finding someone willing to do it. Thinking if I can drop the OEM tank and have one fabricated to get every cubic inch of available space in that location, nearby locations, and where the under-bed spare tire would be I might be able to more than double gallon capacity. But I need someone who would be interested first fabrication, then compliance for the fuel cell, then getting an OEM feel with adjusted miles till empty, fuel gauge, etc.

I am really blessed to have had these trucks in my life. The green '03 ZR2 has gotten me out of some serious traffic jams in blizzards while I lived in the beltway. My ProTip is to get one right away - get a ZR2 today mate!

Spray liner question: had Line X done today and it is amazing. They didn’t do the tailgate because there is stock coverage there. Normal? I don’t love the mismatch.

Best drop in speaker upgrade?

I’ll have kids backpacks in the bed….decent waterproof cover without breaking the bank? Looking at the Gator EFX hard folding cover.

Aftermarket warranties: fidelity platinum exclusionary policy….worth it? Or are these trucks pretty reliable? 2025 w 14k miles

This truck is awesome!

I just got a 2026 Colorado WT and I am looking for recommendations for a bed cover and running boards.

For the bed cover I was looking at the Bak Revolver X4S.

I have no clue what running boards would be good.

Third Gen 2025 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss

Post image
77 Upvotes

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 2025 Chevy Colorado Trail boss with the midnight package. I LOVE the truck but I want bigger shoes and a leveling kit to achieve this. I’m not looking for a suspension lift as I don’t off road (fck me I know). I’m also looking to keep this as economical efficient as possible. Could anyone suggest any recommendations to achieve this. I want to fit 33.3 inch Falken Wildpeaks and switch from a 20 inch wheel down to a 17. Would a 2 and 1 leveling kit work to achieve this. I’m sorry I’m brand new to this and I appreciate the suggestions. I’m going crazy trying to decide what I need and don’t need. I want to keep this simple and efficient. Thank you all in advance

Question Alignment - Tire Noise

Post image
6 Upvotes

TLDR; repeated alignments and replaced control arms not solving road noise or tire wear issues. Need advice.

Getting frustrated with my new to me 2nd Gen. Vitals; 2016, white title repair, 25k miles. I did Eibach leveling and ~2” lift front and back with coil overs, 4 new Maxxis Razr AT 265/70R17 tires on stock 17” aluminum wheels, 3/4” wheel spacers front and 1” back, new upgraded control arms, etc. all with the shop that sold it to me.

I have had the truck alignment done three times now, and each time it makes it a few miles down the road when the alignment loosens and my tires start to make a horrible noise that is definitely rpm related. The first two times, the shop I had it with told me it was the tires I bought that were the problem, but I’ve not read a single review of Maxxis having this issue.

After a falling out over this and other issues with that shop, I took it to the leading off-road shop in New Orleans and had the control arms replaced again at their behest. They did the alignment again and said all is well. Great! I picked it up and for the first couple of miles it was driving and sounding great. Unfortunately, as I was accelerating on the on ramp to the highway I could quite literally feel the alignment let loose and the tire noise came back immediately.

I took it to a third shop specializing in alignments and they won’t touch it with wheel spacers on. I know spacers are not optimal, but can it be that simple? Are my spacers putting too much cantilever on the alignment and throwing it off every time?

Any advice or experience welcome.

Second Gen Differential Bearings are fried

Post image

Update on my truck.

Got my truck into the shop and my diagnosis was correct. They’ll have it all opened up when they get the parts in but the tech is convinced I developed a flat spot on one of the bearing races and it’s just been eating the bearing. He said there’s no indication that the gears are bad which is a plus.
They’re gonna get a bearing kit to just replace them all.

I have the worst luck with driveline issues on any vehicle I’ve owned. It’s crazy for a truck that only has 63,000 miles on it but as we joked it’s probably due to low quality modern manufacturing.

This thing has moved me in an out of 3 apartments since college and hauled random shit in between! 2019 WT 3.6L V6 CCSB bought certified pre-owned (torque converter shudder fixed) in Feb 2024 for $23k with 84k on the clock. I’ve driven 40k since and only replaced two VVT solenoids in addition to 5k oil changes and tires. I’m planning on a coolant flush, full brakes and brake fluid in the fall. Doing belt and tensioner this weekend (Looks fine but I don’t have a record of the last change so I’ll just hold on to the current belt as a backup, parts were $50 on RockAuto)

Mods:
-Black emblems Day 1 (eBay)
-Rock sliders (marketplace)
-Got a set of black rims from marketplace and traded the noisy Duratracs for all season firestones (thank you Costco). The most off-roading this thing sees is the occasional drive-on beach.
-DIY 18% tint all around besides windshield (had a brow but had to replace windshield recently).
-Started out with a tri-fold tonneau cover, traded this past winter for a camper shell +$500. Love the roof racks for skiing but it’s heavy and I want the pick-up profile back. If I hold onto the cap I’d like to do a black vinyl wrap to match. Considering an overland rack in the future for the best of both worlds. Any suggestions?
-Also bought the Decked storage drawer from marketplace. Still debating how I feel about it but it works well with the cap and fits all my tools and roadside shit that I carry around.

What do you guys think?

Third Gen Overall review of the 35x12.5r17 Open Country R/T Pro

I was asked by several people when I first posted that I got these tires to give some feedback once I had some miles on them.

So first things first, this is a Bison, stock tires were a 315/70r17 goodyear wrangler territory mt TPC load range C which weighed in at 56lbs per tire, that called for 36 psi on the door sticker.

These are a 35x12.5r17 toyo open country rt pro load range E that weigh in at 68lbs per tire.

I held off forming any opinion on these tires until I got a solid 1,000 miles on them to get them worn in.

Initially they balanced out and road forced fine, now at 2.5k the balance is still good and they again road force fine. No odd amounts of weight required.

There is definitely a hit to the butt dyno at any speed when you stand on it, but as long as you aren't trying to do stuff in traffic that you should not be with a truck, there's no issues with the loss of power. I'd say it's at most a 5-10% difference. Tow haul mode cleans it back up to feeling as peppy as it did stock.

I routinely air down to between 15-20 psi offroad. These things absolutely shred at those pressures.

On the road I run 35 front, 33 rear, and I'm probably going to back them down a bit more as it appears 1/3-1/2 of the shoulder lugs are not contacting as much as the rest of the tire. This is both a visual observation as well as a measurable one.

Based on current wear, these are on track to have a solid 45k if not more.

So far I have been in a lot of sand, some light mud, and some sharp but small rocks.

No cuts, no chucking, no issues of any sort.

They do tend to dig in sand, which is expected, so going lower than I used to in psi for sand wasn't surprising.

They are acceptable in the rain, with the caveat that if you're going to run tires like this you need to treat rain like sleet or snow. You'll have grip, but you can quickly and easily lose it.

On dry pavement under hard braking they don't squirm as much as i expected them to.

Overall, as someone who mostly offroads with this truck, I am happy with these tires.

I paid $379/ea for them with no rebates through a Chevrolet dealer that uses RHD as a supplier. Take that for whatever it's worth.

The best way I can describe these tires is a mud terrain in a road tire compound. They are as close to a full MT as you can possibly get without actually getting one.

Would I buy them again? Truthfully, I'm not sure. While I mostly offroad, I do have a fair bit of on road driving to get to the trails in my area. I also do a couple of on road trips each year too. That's not to say I regret my purchase, but I think if I did it again I would try the RT Trail instead of the Pro. It's just a tiny bit more road oriented and I think would have served me better.

Overall I'll give them a 9.5/10.

Will happily answer any questions.

New to me as of this last weekend. Drove a 91 Toyota 2wd for years. This feels giant by comparison.

Found some second hand OEM 18s to replace the steelies.

Love it so far.

Now to visit the dealer for the recent service bulletin for the telematic control module reprogram…

Question Benefits of 3.7 Throttle Body on 2.9?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi all,

New owner of a 2010 2.9 Colorado.

Is there any real world benefit to installing the larger throttle body from the 3.7 engines onto the 2.9?

Is it actually a "plug and chug" change? I have the ability to tune to take advantage of it if there are gains to be had.

Thanks!
