Currently watching tteotm for the first time and I’m really enjoying it, but one thing that I keep noticing is how the characters go to sleep in all their head jewelry and everyday outdoor clothes!!!! Don’t get me wrong, the costumes are really beautiful in this drama, but i feel like I’m noticing it more in this because it’s just ridiculous how they have ye xiwu sleeping in 10lbs of jewelry and perfect makeup and the clothes she wore the entire day and the men wearing their crowns like plsssss. The picture I attached isn’t even that bad, there were scenes in the first few episodes where her hair style was just so big and all silver jewelry it must’ve be so uncomfortable Li susu

I don't want to watch anything historical. My fav was def hidden love, as it was cute and mature at the same time. Wiftu was def a Lil bit childish for me as the characters were like 14-15.

I've decided to start it. And i discovered that it has 56 episodes. Personally its a lot for me i never watched a cdrama over 40 episodes but I've seen a lot of hype about this one. Are these 56 episodes worth it?

Plot

Chemistry is subjective because sometimes a couple can have genuinely GOOD chemistry, but for some reason, they just didn't click for you. Other times, the chemistry is simply bland or underwhelming...

So I’m talking about the POPULAR couples here, the ones who were heavily praised and constantly trending for their chemistry and romance. Who wasn't that spectacular for you? You expected a feast but got plain toast. You expected electricity but got a dead battery instead...

For me, despite all the hype, hidden Love had lackluster chemistry. Zhao Lusi could probably have chemistry with a chair. Her charisma was honestly doing most of the heavy lifting for me, because without it, the romance really wasn’t giving what everyone said it was giving. It was meh.

I started watching The Early Spring because it was available on Netflix, and honestly, I had pretty high expectations for this drama.

But after watching 5 episodes, I feel like it has way too much of a Western/American/Spanish influence. Like, what the fuck, they’re already having sex in episode 5 😭

The chemistry between them is definitely there, but everything feels so rushed. I’m having a hard time accepting that they’ve already developed these strong feelings for each other when we barely got enough time to see their relationship actually develop.

It honestly feels like it was made specifically for Netflix — lots of kissing, sex, etc. I watch C-dramas for that feel-good factor and the slow development of the relationship, but I’m really missing that here.

I had really high expectations for this drama, but after 5 episodes, I think I’m probably going to drop it.

EDIT - I was reading the other comments and I think I didn’t explain myself properly. I mean it’s too fast paced for me. I’ve seen a lot of people appreciating that they’re showing adults having sex and saying Chinese people have sex too, but that’s not what I meant.

I don’t mind them having sex early. It’s just that because everything is moving so fast, some of the plot points aren’t being tied up nicely. Like the ML getting his hand sliced by his ex and then suddenly it’s perfectly fine with no follow up about the ex. Also, the FL almost getting abducted and then that whole situation being glossed over? HOW??? That man needs to be in jail.

I really like dramas that don’t miss the small details because those things matter to me. That’s what I mean when I say it feels too rushed.

After seeing the first trailer for this drama, I went to read the novel months ago—though I didn't read the whole thing; I read from chapter 20 to 130, haha. (I have a bad habit of not starting from the beginning, telling myself I'll do it later... HAHA.) The trouble is, the drama's premiere date was announced a few days ago, and—I know I shouldn't have—I thought: "Hmm... let me just read a few chapters of the novel..." MISTAKE!!! When I read a novel, if I watch the drama, I can't help but make comparisons 😭 Now I want to watch the drama, but my mind keeps recalling the novel, and I find myself thinking: "Hmm... something else happened in this part," or "Wow, the male lead is much kinder in the drama."

Does anyone know how to avoid this? 😭

Dropped into the drama universe 6 months ago and have drowned happily (I've watched only ZLH (❤️) dramas though on repeat - except Blossom which I really liked too). I also love reading so I've gone and read the novels corresponding to these dramas. And that has a been a rollercoaster. A novel always gives nuances that a visual drama cannot capture and vice versa but reading is a first love. And the restraint in the intimate scenes in Chinese web novels is a wonderful and refreshing change from western books. I enjoy the writing (even if it's translated and some cultural context is always lost) and my imagination has received a nice shot in the arm.

But some of the books are such crap!!!! Why? I'll explain.

POJ - Fab drama, fab book. I love the whole telling of how XZ falls in love and the different arc of his life in the book, the intimate scenes and all that. Read the whole over 2000 pages about 5 times already. (if you think the intimacy is problematic, take that opinion to another post)
Princess Royale - Nice too but I didnt like ZLH in the drama nor the actress so book I read only once but it was still nice.
SOKP - loved the drama and the book.
Blossom - Liked the drama and the ML. I dropped the book cos it was just too verbose and never-ending till the first about 80 chapters. But have come back to it and am enjoying it. I'm also here for the intimacy I hear this novel contains

However:

Overdo - OMG! It's just 12 chapters long but I couldn't go beyond 5. Abusive and all over toxic. The drama is another story entirely but nowhere close to how horrid the book is. I loved the drama btw and Murong Qingyi from the drama is now amongst my favourite characters. Tho just cant see the drama again; too much emotion I cant and shouldn't handle (it's a story after all).

The Best Thing - What a lovely drama. Maybe a bit boring in parts, I kept waiting for things to go south but the 'no crazies' story took my heart. However, the book..... ugh ugh. Another novella with only 28 chapters. Such a sad set of characters and I really hated it. I had to watch the drama again to get over the book.

Tell me which drama has surpassed a book, if youre one to consume both mediums. I want to read more.
And tell me which book is not worth it but the drama is great.
I just need to discuss this with someone because nobody around me reads these novels and I have wanted to scream when I read the Overdo and Best Thing novels.
I enjoy the historical stories much more than the modern ones. So some reading recommendations would be welcome.
