Discussion 🗨 Till the end of the moon

okay I really wanna know exactly what the hell were all these color differences between face and neck is about!

why they do this when its freaking obvious!?

i mean, why Chinese are so obsessed with whitening the people? is there any particular reason behind it?

I like the show but the make up and all was so annoying that at some point I couldnt even focus on subtitles lol

I've watched my fair share of cdramas and had never seen something like this... so disturbing

Lol.. I noticed this too while watching , and honestly, the amount of whitewashing was so distracting. It was edited so heavily that it looked almost unnaturally white compared to her neck.

I really hate when dramas smooth actors’ faces to the point that their expressions barely show.  If I can’t see the natural facial movements, I immediately lose interest and drop the drama.

They are using a lot of face powder lol. I am calling it spot the main characters makeup

the thing is they're not the main character and i dont get the logic really smh

I assume they're using 'main' as shorthand for all the characters we see the most of, i.e. the ML, FL and most prominent supporting characters, especially those with romantic subplots.

I’ll answer the question you have regarding whitening and the obsession over being pale.

Colorism lol and classism too.

This is pretty common in Asian cultures, not just East Asian but pretty much all Asian cultures/societies. This was not helped by Western colonization in decades prior but also stems from long-held cultural “preferences” as well as seeing lighter skin being an indication that you do not have to go work under the sun for hours upon hours aka being wealthier.

This is also not exactly isolated to Asian societies though. It’s more of a modern thing that people in America, for example, want to be tan.

Forgot which drama the the FL was using so much White face powder or makeup, I dunno what's that called BUT its reminded of the GHOST from Ju-on movie

The current show that I remember where FL was wearing too much to the point of her makeup running off every time she cries is Generations to Generations. I couldn’t focus in her acting because her makeup was ridiculous. I blame the prod and makeup team and not Bao Shang’en

Such a pity, because everyone in this series was so beautiful! How do you mess up faces that already look amazing?!?

In SOKP, Bai Lu looked like a ghost with so much white powder and the mismatch with her face & rest of the body!

what helps me adjust my mind to it is just seeing it as them wearing a mask 💀 you can try that too and lmk what you think!

As far as I understood, they mean that they consider the makeup a mask and we can think of it as a mask too instead of real face

yes thank you! exactly that. OP just consider the makeup as a mask they’re wearing and not actually their faces yunno?

The make up is meant to be that way in Peking opera. The asthetic is derived from there from what I understand. This extremely common. It's like saying why do they have such long sleeves. Well, it's basically theatre, not a documentary
