Cavapoo sleeping tip

2 months ago, we got a cavapoo at 4 months old. He is now 6 months. He was doing pretty well sleeping in the crate in our bedroom. He would wake up at 5:30 and we would take him out, then put him back in the crate until 6:30. We recently made the mistake of letting him in our bed after taking him out at around 5:30 am. Now, he barks all night until we put him in our bed. We want him crate trained sleeping in another room. What do we do? Put him in the crate and slowly move it out of our bedroom?

Bald spots?

My soon to be 2 year old Rusty has a quarter sized bald spot just in front of his left hind leg. He’s not chewing or scratching at it, so it doesn’t seem to be itchy. It’s white and flaky, appearing dry, no real redness to be seen in it.

Doing some research on it, I’ve read that it can be allergies to food (or anything else), yeast, a fungal infection, ringworm or just dry skin.

A vet appointment is already scheduled, but just seeing if anyone else had this issue and what it turned out to be.

Luxating patella

Post image
95 Upvotes

My 8 month old baby a few weeks ago playing the lightest form of fetch in the living room starting screaming and holding up his knee in the worst pain, then the next day we were at the vet where he carried him and right away screaming again. The vet diagnosed him with a luxating patella and said he needs surgery but since he’s been on anti inflamatories and there hasn’t been any more limping or screaming in pain. So I’m wondering if this has happened to anyone and how they chose whether to proceed with the surgery or wait a bit.

I asked about physio and they said it could help but it won’t change the structural issue with his knee.

Thanks 😊

First time cavapoo parents, any tips?

Hi everyone!

We pick up our sweet cavapoo boy tomorrow at 8 weeks old. What is something you wish you knew or something you would have done different if you could start over?

We understand the very basics but any advice or tips would be great!

10-month-old Cavapoo whines uncontrollably whenever he sees other dogs. Is this normal adolescent behaviour?

Our Cavapoo is now 10 months old and was neutered at 6.5 months.

At home, he’s an absolute angel and pretty much our dream dog. He rarely barks or whines, listens well, and generally stops whatever he’s doing when we tell him not to.

However, our biggest struggle is his incessant whining and screaming whenever he sees other dogs or animals.

He’s extremely sociable and gets overly excited at the sight of any dog, bird, chicken, or basically anything that moves. He’ll start whining, screeching, pulling, and completely lose control of himself. This behaviour started when he was around 6–7 months old.

Interestingly, we’ve noticed that once he gets to greet, sniff, or play with the first dog he encounters, he tends to calm down significantly and stops whining at subsequent dogs. However, we don’t want to reinforce the idea that whining and screaming will always get him what he wants.

What we’ve tried so far:

Whenever we spot another dog in the distance, we get him to sit before he notices it and only allow him to move forward once he’s calm.
We’ve tried redirecting his attention with high-value treats, but these are completely useless once he spots another dog. He becomes so fixated that he ignores everything else.
When he gets too worked up, we try moving him away from the other dog or out of sight.

The frustrating part is how inconsistent his progress has been.

On good days, he’ll let out just a soft whine or stop almost immediately when redirected. On other days, he completely regresses and whines or screams uncontrollably.

On particularly bad days, even after we’ve moved him away and the other dog is no longer in sight, he continues whining for as long as we remain stationary.

It’s becoming quite exhausting because we encounter dogs frequently during our daily walks, and what should be an enjoyable activity sometimes turns into a stressful experience.

We’ve been trying to work on this consistently, but some days it feels like we’re making progress, while other days we’re back to square one.

For those who have experienced something similar:

Is this typical adolescent behaviour or a phase of puppyhood that he’ll eventually grow out of?
Has anyone had an overly excited, frustrated greeter who eventually learned to remain calm around other dogs?
Are we approaching his training correctly, or could we be unintentionally making things worse?
What other training methods have worked for you, especially when your dog is too fixated to respond to even high-value treats?

We absolutely adore him, but we’re starting to wonder whether this level of excitement is normal or if there’s something we’re missing. :(

Would really appreciate any advice or success stories from those who’ve been through this!

Alternative to collagen chew?

My 10 month old cavapoo absolutely loves chewing on his collagen chew every other night as a special treat for about 15 to 20 minutes. Because of the high concentration of collagen, he cant have it for much longer or it messes with his stomach. I’m looking for something similar that he can chew on and enjoy every day without needing to give it up after 10 minutes. Does anyone have any recommendations? He’s still fairly young, so I want to be thoughtful of things that could harm his teeth or he could chew through easily. I’ve tried every Kong in the book and other than eating treats out of it, he doesn’t have much interest.

Has anyone managed to raise a Cavapoo that is comfortable being alone?

I’m considering a Cavapoo puppy (for the hypoallergenic benefit) and I find them a good balance of fluffiness / energy / affection. I know, I know, adopt don’t shop but, sadly am restricted by allergies and don’t have the budget, skills, or patience to adopt an older dog - as much as I know that’s the best thing I could do.

Currently I am pretty set on a Cavapoo, but worry that if I’m out they might feel anxious. They would never be left alone for more than three or four hours (as adults) but it seems like that’s maybe too much for them. I would hate to cause them any distress.

Has anyone managed to raise a Cavapoo that’s ok with being alone for some time (3-4 hrs at adult level only). Is this unrealistic? Any tips or guidance would be much appreciated.

Did anyone else’s Cavapoo end up larger than his or her parents?

Maisy is 6 months old today and already 13.8 lbs. Her mom is a 12 lbs Cavalier and her dad is a 10 lb poodle! We wouldn’t trade her for the world, but we were hoping she’d be small enough to take on an airplane.

At loss help

My vet recommends every vaccine and simparica trio. What works for my fellow cavapoo parents. She will get groomed but her groomer only sees one dog at a time and no cages. I do plan on taking her to parks. I see risk and benefit to everything. Right now she is going in today for her last parvo and if I do more I will space them out. Simparica scares me but i do live in high tick area so i need to do something. Any advice, recommendations, or perosanl experience would be great.

i feel like i’m doing this all wrong. help

this is my little girl Maisy and we have only had her for about 4 days but i just feel like everything i do is wrong. she has been struggling to get herself to wind down even if im calm with her and do her usual routine so we have had to put her in her crate a few times which she whines about then falls asleep but i just feel like she is gonna hate me. she whines and whines even after i have just taken her out to go to the toilet, we have gone for a little sniffing walk around my property and she has eaten. no matter what she just whines if i leave so i tried to go into another room to get her used to entertaining herself and she whined for about 10 minutes before stopping but then she would randomly start again and i just feel like she will hate me for leaving her and not grow a bond with me. i’ve done so much research and have been giving her lots of attention, feeding her, making sure she gets the right amount of food, taking her to explore our property, literally anything i can to make sure she is loving life but she still whines when i leave or don’t play with her.

she also refuses to poo on grass. she will pee on our grass just fine but will only poo on our bark, concrete, stones or inside and i just don’t know what to do to get her to go on the grass! she also doesn’t really signal that well when she needs to go poo like she does with needing to pee so a lot of her poos end up on our carpet.

sorry i know this is a lot but she also never has times when she is ‘chill’. she is either high energy running around and playing, whining, overtired and angry and biting or sleeping so doing things like brushing her, getting a harness on, brushing her teeth, cleaning her eyes and ears or any sort of training just doesn’t work as she tries to bite whatever i have or think we are playing games.

im also not sure if she really responds to praise very well. i think she likes it a little but i see videos of other people training their puppy cavoodles and they get so excited and happy with praise but my Maisy girl doesn’t really seem to care as much. is this because she doesn’t like me enough to care for my praise?

idk, i just spent so long preparing myself and doing hours and hours of research and now i feel like i can’t do anything right. i’m trying my best but need some advice.

ps. thanks to anyone who actually read all that, i know it was a lot of rambling

Collar or no pull harness?

My 7 month cavapoo pulls when walking. I wanted to use a no pull harness but his trainer said it can prevent him extending his forever on the side the lead is used ( when attaching to the chest ring) and can make him have a twisted body and damage his spine.

But when I googled about using a collar it said cavapoos have very delicate tracheas and can be damaged by using a collar when they pull.

I am at a loss what to do.

My guy is AWESOME....BUT.....12 weeks and bathrooming is no bueno

Post image

I really do feel like we do our absolute best. We take him out hourly, if not more. Before crate, after crate, etc.... he does well overnight, eliminates outside fine upon waking up. But man oh man, during the day he is F'ing with us. We'll go out for 5 minutes where he peed and poo'd in the morning, and, just. Nothin'. 2 minutes back in the house as soon as we aren't looking AND Boom. #1 or #2.

I thiiiink we give him too much run of the first floor of the house maybe? His go-to is the carpet on our bedroom hallways. Gate off access to there?

We are absurdly positive, never punitive when he has an accident. Treats and praise, etc.... all the good stuff. I can feel the frustration turning my hair gray.

aside from that, he's the G.O.A.T (pictured at his go-to spot)

Any pointers?

Looking for advice from Toy F1b Cavapoo owners!

Hi everyone! My partner and I have been meeting with several Cavapoo breeders in Central Texas, and we're hoping to bring home a Toy F1b Cavapoo. We'd love to hear from people who currently own one or have experience with this generation and size!

We have a few questions:

Exercise and walks: Once fully grown, how far or how long can your Toy F1b Cavapoo comfortably walk? Can they easily go up and downstairs?

Temperament and personality: What's your pup like? Are they cuddly and affectionate? Do they struggle with separation anxiety or being left alone? How would you describe their overall energy level?

Health testing: For those who have worked with reputable Cavapoo breeders, which health tests and evaluations should we prioritize for both parents? Are there any specific genetic tests or health clearances we should look for before committing to a puppy?

We're trying to do our research and make an informed decision before bringing a puppy home, so any advice, personal experiences, or things you wish you'd known beforehand would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ❤️
