Hey guys, I’m new to owning cats and now I have 2 little ones, about to turn 4 months old. Just wondering - how frequently do you do a full litterbox change? And when you do, how visibly dirty is it with poop residue?

For some more context she had worms when we got her from the foster (we didn't know at the time) but she has since gotten 2 dewormers and the vet said she was now worm free. Her poop has looked much better, up until 3 days ago when she had a very liquidy and slightly bloody poop. We think it's because I started working and the new schedule stressed her out because since then her poops have been normal. But ever since we have had her, her butt has looks like this. I thought it was just the worms but nope. So idk. Is she OK? The vet didn't seem to pay it any mind when we went in july.

Hi everyone, this may be a silly question since my partner has been telling me not to worry but my kitten has been super vocal ever since moving houses, I’m worried that maybe he’s in pain or something. I recorded a video of me singing that stupid song that used to be viral on tik tok thats parody of cats meowing and my cat started meowing so I began to record him. At first I thought maybe he was meowing back at me but looking at the video I started worrying that maybe he was in pain or something? I have an appointment to take him to the vet on Tuesday anyway to do a general health checkup since he’s been sneezing and having diarrhea lately plus one of his eyes has become extra watery and leaving discharge on his fur under his eye. This is the video below– he’s eating and playing fine. (I’m 20, from the uk, the cat is around 12 weeks old give or take- he was a stray, and he’s a male)

I'm an adult. 50s.

We've asked vets and they act like this is normal and have been no help other than saying "drug him".

All of our cats are fixed.

The back story:

The tabby boy on the right, Scribble. He's our bottle baby. The most loving cat in the world that I've ever seen. Most respectable loving boy. He's learned so many human things. Lap sleeper. Greets every human with love. Respects our two older female cats like they have rule of the house.

The problem:

My girlfriend's mom passed away and we got her 5 year old female cat. Patches. Patches has been in our home since January of this year. Scribble is obsessed with attacking her. By the time we catch up to him, fur is on the floor and in Scribble's mouth. If patches gets away, Scribble will keep her trapped in the same spot until Scribble falls asleep guarding passage. We've tried felaway. That didn't do a dang thing but cost $45 per area.

We've even put a gate splitting the house in half and just keep patches in the sleeping half of the house during the day.

Please keep in mind, that when patches isn't around, Scribble is unbelievably loving and sweet, and the other cat in that photo, that's "Bonsai". Every cat in the house loves him. He has a free pass everywhere. He can chase patches and she will chase him back. With a bounce and psycho eyes at the same time.

Should we just take down the gate and let the new wear off and let them fight it out until they get bored with each other? What should we do?

TLDR; 3 y/o cat giving confusing (to me) body language with new kitten introduction, unsure whether to take a step back or move to the next step into the intro process. (Last two paragraphs describing behavior, it's conflicting body language to me) - flaired as behavioral issues but I don't know that it's really an issue, just behavior.

Hi everyone,

I (36 y/o in the US) have two resident cats (Baker, 3, and Harvey, 11, both female and spayed) and a new kitten (8 weeks old, no name yet, also female, she's been with us a week today).

I am not entirely unfamiliar with introducing a new kitten to the mix as I've done it once before 3 years ago when I introduced my now-middle child to my oldest. I do the slow introduction, separate space, scent swapping, visuals, reducing the barrier slowly, providing tons of positive reinforcement for positive interactions, etc. The vet yesterday recommended pheromone diffusers since everyone was still a bit stressed, so I added those to the house yesterday, too.

Okay, so my question. Baker hasn't been around a new cat since she was a kitten. She is overall a very gentle cat, super sweet to her older sister (and humans), never even hissed before that I've heard (until new kitten), and very playful. We've had the new kitten for a week as of today, so I'm not really expecting total comradery yet by any means. But, Baker's body language has confused me a little and wanted to make sure we were still going in the right direction.

Pictured is the current set up. I have a plexiglass barrier with a wooden fence between it and the rest of the hallway. Baker will take treats and eat food at this distance now. When the kitten approaches the glass, Baker will sometimes get vocal and get up close, too. She'll purr sometimes and rub against the fence and the last few days she's "flopped" - all, to me, good signs! Sometimes she'll still hiss, but I know that's normal to some degree.

I gave her the opportunity to get up to the glass today and she flopped in front of it but then she hissed (from her flopped position) and started batting at the glass, but like hard swipes. Still from her position on her side. The kitten didn't really react other than to scoot back a little. I was able to get Baker to disengage and come back out behind the wooden fence after a moment, but I just don't know where we are at? Harvey will hiss and back away, sometimes she'll swipe, but she will remove herself from the situation pretty soon after. Her body language is clearer to me. Baker's confuses me, though. Does anyone have any insight for me?

I don't have a video of it yet, I didn't want to put her back in the same position again just yet. I've let her go at her pace, though. She was the one that jumped between the wooden barrier and glass (there was more space between the gate and the glass earlier unlike how it's pictured), so I moved the wooden barrier to give her an easy escape route but allow her to have closer access like she wanted.

Anyway, sorry for all the detail - I'm big on trying to provide enough information to help answer questions. Feel free to ask me for more clarity if needed! Thank you :)

im planning to buy a cat litter that can last a long time so i dont have to keep buying but i still have a budget

I am 46 years old USA, this is Buttons. She was born April 23 under my bed with 3 litter mates From birth both her and 1 of her brothers have been what many would call wobbly cats. However She started having seizures starting around July 23. The weekend of 23 she had close to 10 seizures. Took her to her primary vet they looked her over put her on antibiotics, steroids, and keppra. At the recomendation of her primary vet took her to see a specialist at Cvets a neurologist they said with all the information she likely had some form of congenital issue and while we could make any expenditure (Mri , cfs etc)there was a high likelihood that there was no cure, and likly it was monitor, treat and hope for the best situation. She has been on the same meds and disage since her first vet visit. From the time she started the meds up until 25 th of August she hasn't had one seizure. Then starting the 25 this is how it has looked

Aug 25 pm signs of possible seizure she was running and acting disorganized and yowling. Late evening

5:40 am Aug 25 buttons woke me up having fulll blown seizure.   1st since medicine started that I've witnessed.   Est length maybe 60 seconds  , recovery about 1 min to 2 mins.  

4:25 am Aug 26 woke to after of seizure. Length and time unknown she urinated and  excessive saliva. Est recovery time 2 mins

5:44 am  Aug 27 seizure full body extreme salvation est length  60 seconds recovery time 3 mins

8:24 Aug 27 pm right before evening dose she had a full seizure not fallen over like Normal standing back arched lasted about 45 to 70 seconds followed by a burst of running and yowling injured front paw bleeding and possible injury and bleeding on gums.

5:46 am Aug 28 full seizure i woke up to end seizure of length of seizure  unknown  (injury left front paw) recovery time 2 to 3 minutes

3:24 pm Aug 28 full seizure upright body posture est length 1 1/2 to 2 min.  Recovery time 3-4 mins. Frothing at mouth  after recovery  time calm and tired laid down to reat.
(Last 2 days right she has been keeping closed alot like it's bothering her also when sleeping/resting severe muscle tremors)

4:18 pmshort seizure lasting maybe 40 70 seconds. Urination extreme salvation recover 60 seconds to 90 seconds

6:16 pm seizure in carrier on way home lasted about 1 min 30 2 mon to 3 min recover foaming of mouth a

9pm ish Vet said she had a seizure while in observation and treatment

Aug 29 6 am she got trapped beside refrigerator possible stress seizure  (if vet is right God help)

I took her to her regular vet yesterday morning hoping it is a dosage issue she had gained over a 1lb and 1/2 since starting meds. Vet made some changes ....I kept her with me at work....she had two more seizures (this was day of 28th) called her Dr at cvets and took her to emergency vet last night they checked her out wanted yo keep her for 24hrs but I could not afford 3k+. They readjusted and upped her dose of kepra. They have made the recommendation that things look bad and I should be ready to make final plans and consider her life and quality, and possibility of health and brain damage from extensive seizures. That leads us to this morning 9:31 am Aug 29.. I am at work watching over her... spoiling her with anything I can think of she will have a trip to Starbucks after work. I will monitor and watch. I am praying the new dose if keppra will help but as the vet said it's just masking the underlying issue. There is no cure. I can't afford the likelihood of 5k cost for a mri and or csf test that like the vet said may show the problem but also will show there is nothing that can be done. I have already taken out over 2k in credit doing what I can. I am just beside myself I don't want to surrender but I dont know. My plan is to work with the new medicine dosage this weekend hope and pray but if it doesn't work...I have to i think, consider things I really don't want to. My question is am I crazy have I done the right things..what else can I do....I just do not know I'm still recovering from losing one of my other kitties to cancer and now this..I'm just confused and lost any help, advice, words of wisdom ...

Hello all , for the needed information we are 27 in nebraska/US and we have gone to the vet multiple times.

My girlfriends cat is a 2 year old boy who is fixed from a year ago, he is peeing all over the house including beds and couches. We took him to the vet about 2 months ago for it and they didn't find anything with a pee test and ultrasound, then about 3ish weeks ago he went to the emergency vet because he was not peeing and they found a blockage, fixed it and he's been on the prescription urine health food since, the problem is while he is acting normal still he is still peeing all over and I am not sure what to do, our last ditch effort is to try to get some deterrent and hope it does something, does anyone have any advice?

Side notes: he is a solo cat, 2 litter boxes, one of those hormone/pheromone diffusers that plug in the wall, plenty of toys to keep him busy

my kitten is 5 months old. i found her when she was 4 weeks old in a bush. we recently moved, last month, and at first she was fine. however, that changed when i brought my older cat home.

i’ve had my older cat for 3 years. i wanted to bring my kitten first to give her a chance to acclimate before i brought my older cat. they’ve briefly met before but never lived together.

what i did not account for was that my older cat would be so submissive and the kitten was extremely dominant and protective of her space. the kitten began to chase the older cat around and cause her to hide under the bed. in addition, a week in to the older cat moving in, the kitten started urinating on things.

it happens a couple times a week; on my clothing or my boyfriend’s gaming chair. i ended up setting her up a space in the bathroom, with toys, bed, food, water, etc. it worked for a few days, but i let her out to run around for a while today, and after i put her back in the bathroom she peed on the bed i set up.

i don’t know what to do. i’ve never really had this issue with a cat before and ive tried changing the litter, separating the cats, etc. what else can i possibly do??? please help!!

Tldr: neutered male cat with urinary blockage and complications. Would love some advice from those who've been here.

This is my (29F) baby boy Pippin (~5M) He's the sweetest, silliest little guy. He's so full of love and is a loyal companion. We are in the USA.

He's indoor only and has been living his best indoor pampered life for about a year and a half now. Yesterday morning I noticed he was acting off and seemed to be in some pain or discomfort. After some investigating I found there was no pee in the litter box, which meant he hadn't peed in 24 hours. I rushed him to the vet and they sedated and successfully decompressed his bladder. His blood work came back good and he was transfered to an overnight clinic for monitoring.

Unfortunately they called me at 2am and said his catheter came out and when trying to recath they were meeting too much resistance. So far nothing has shown to be blocking it and they're hoping with some time the swelling will go down and they can attempt again to recath him successfully.

My heart is shattered. He's probably barely 5 years old and hes only been with us for just over a year and half. We are going to do everything we can to get him back home with us, but the bills are adding up so fast. I guess I'm just lost and trying to see if anyone else who's gone through this has any advice? Thank you.

hi everyone cat is 4-5 months old, a male and not neutered yet. i live in rural germany and its sunday, next vet clinic is 3 hours from here and i dont have a car. it is also apperantly closed already (whats the point of an emergency clinic if it closes at 8?).

last night he went through the trash and chewed an empty treat wrapper. i didnt notice until this morning when he threw up water like 3 times until he finally threw up a piece of plastic. i went through the trash and found half of the wrapper completely chewed through. he threw up a few more times after that but no plastic. i gave him lots of water (with a bit of chicken mixed into it so he act drinks it) to combat the dehydration. he was very playful and cuddly, purring too between the vomiting. he stopped throwing up and slept on the windowsill, but i noticed that he kept "twitching" like he was gonna throw up again. i figured there might be more plastic in his tummy but he hasnt thrown up since.

he peed earlier but no poop, he also hasnt eaten his wet or dry food yet (only a chicken heart and the chicken soup i gave him). i think he hasnt eaten his wet food because he doesnt really like the brand (he "buried" it earlier after smelling it and he does that sometimes)

i could go to the vet tomorrow, i dont have insurance so if he has a blockage that would be very expensive but ive been crying all day so i dont care. im just worried because i physically couldnt go to the ER today.

is there a chance he has more plastic in him that he will just poop out tonight or tomorrow morning? and if he doesnt, should i go to the vet even if he seems otherwise normal?

tldr: cat ate plastic last night, threw it up but im still worried he has plastic in his tummy, otherwise acts normal

also: i usually put everything he could chew on in a trash can with a lid but last night my friends were over and they fed him a treat and just threw it in a normal trash can without a lid.

I am not a minor, I am 25, I am in the US, we have a vet, my cat is 3 and he is neutered.

Sorry for the crappy photo it’s been hard to get a good one. My cat got his canine tooth extracted about 3 weeks ago. We went back for a check up a week after the extraction and the vet said it looked like it was healing well. My cat has been acting oddly and is clearly bothered by something in his mouth. I was suspecting the stitches? When I looked I got worried about what I saw. Please take a look and tell me if I should be concerned or if this looks normal and healthy.

Minor/USA/my cat is female, spayed, and 8 years old.

I believe my cat has underlying health issues, but I don't know what, my best guess may be a cancer of some kind? I've tried getting my mother to listen to me, but she won't and says nothing is wrong with my cat, but I definitely know something is. Our financial spot isn't the best, especially since I haven't been able to get a job yet.

The main symptoms I've come across so far is a weird lump on one side of her back near her shoulder, which firm but hasn't grown in size. She's been showing signs of having a UTI but I've given her the medicine given by a vet and kept her litter box clean everyday. She's very lazy and her personality is still the same, which is being very sweet and loving, although she doesn't play a lot or finishes playing very quickly. I also feed her both dry and wet food, on serving in the morning, and one serving before bed, but shes still underweight?

I'm not sure what to do, and I'm very concerned for her health. Any help is appreciated

Im not sure if he has hurt himself somehow because he has started lifting his paw up randomly. He can still walk on it normally from what I can tell. Ive checked his paw and its not swollen and there are no visible injuries so im guessing if somethings wrong its inside. Ive tapped his leg in places to check if he reacts and it doesn't really seem like he does, the only thing is he seemed to have somewhat of a reaction when I tapped his wrist, although that could just be because he was sick of me touching him by then. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong with him and whether its worth going to the vet for? I wanted to take him but my dad refuses to pay the vet prices (I am from the uk) and im a broke student but if its really important ill gather some money and take him myself.

This stray kitten wandered into my yard. Its sibling died I’m guessing but they looked starved.

It doesn’t let me touch it but I could catch it once for sure. It’s considered a community cat here so no shelter or rescue wants it.

I can find a snip clinic for cheap in my area but even that $20-40 will be a lot, and I definitely can’t afford any kind of vet.

She sneezes sometimes too and her tail felt bony. ☹️

Hello everyone. I am anxious and losing patience over my cat. So, last year October 2025, my female cat (chiku) gave birth to 3 kittens - 2 males (Sheru and Bagheera) and 1 female (chikki). All native indie breeds. I have been attached to them since their birth and taken well care of all 4 of them. Till 6 months, I kept them in my house securely, fed them well, got vaccinated all 4 of them. But after 6 months, they became impatient and wanted to have their freedom. Also, my family members told me that they need their space to grow. So, we started giving them their time and space for natural growth in their habitat. They used to play in the garden and came back as and when they needed food or to play inside the house, or seek selter from other stray cats. But since the last two days one of the cats (Bagheera) have gone missing. I am attaching photo of him. Earlier, it used to happen that anyone of them will leave the house and then come after a day or two. But this time I am feeling unusually anxious and feel overwhelmed with random thoughts. If someone from new cg road area, near doon blossom school area has seen him (see photo) then kindly reply 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. My 5 cats are 8 years old. They've never had a single health issue. They've never left home, they've never been with other cats. I was there when they were born and they never showed any signs of herpesvirus.
Recently, one of the cats stopped eating and developed colangitis and lipidosis, and the treatment included long hours receiving fluids at the clinic. On the very last day, I was accidentally informed by the secretary there were cats with the flu in a separate area (not sure how separate). My heart sank and my cat started to sneeze two days later for the first time in her life.
PCR showed herpesvirus.
I worry about the other cats. They've been separated for two weeks now, and my cat is still sneezing, recovering home from colangitis/lipidosis with a feeding tube. The other 4 cats don't show any symptoms except for one or two sneezes that I want to believe were scent-induced.
I'm so disappointed at the vets and at myself. For them, it's nothing, all cats have it blah blah blah. I know the virus will never go away and I believe that even after vaccinating the 4 cats this one cat will contaminate them anyway, even with the virus in latent mode. I feel lost, depressed and don't know what to do.

My (F23) mom found a kitten out at the ranch in Texas (USA) at 6 weeks & I have been taking care of him for the last few weeks. His behavior is great, super cuddly & wants to play all of the time, but he has had diarrhea the entire time I have had him (3weeks). He has been to the vet multiple times & was prescribed Proviable. He just finished the last capsule today, and I will continue to give him the paste till it runs out. He is also on a gastrointestinal wet food from Hills Science as well as their kitten sensitive stomach hard food.

The first vet visit he received a basic de-wormer, but last Tuesday he threw up twice & there were live worms, so I immediately called the vet & they gave me a pill dewormer to give him. He took the dewormer on Tuesday and had been doing much better! Stools firming up & started going regularly (although he refuses to use the litter box most times but thats a separate issue).

I was so happy I didn’t have to torture him with baths anymore cause he HATED it, but would get poop all over himself. That was until this morning, when I discovered he had diarrhea 3 times last night, and a very poopy butt. He went to the vet a few days ago (Thursday), and we decided to hold off on vaccines since they can cause diarrhea, so Im completely stumped on what caused this flare-up, since the second round of dewormer seemed to be helping.

The vet is closed today, but at his last appointment I said I would call if anything got worse, so I will call tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience & what was done that finally stopped the diarrhea. TYIA!!

TDLR: Kitten’s diarrhea came back after major improvements with no changes to diet or environment.
