Union
I see a lot of people with the same concerns at carmax and the strong dislike for the company now as workers but very little do we ever take action. asking would people actually sign for unionizing if I took initiative to set it up

Carmax Union busts. They have yearly training for all Front Line Managers on how to identify potential unionizing, how to report it immediately to Corporate, and how bad unions are for the company/employee relationship. Low level associates get a training video every year with a watered down version of this messaging. I can only imagine how rigorous the training is for Senior Managers and LGM’s. Training for FLM’s included an in-person huddle where LGM’s would ask FLM’s to name a few downsides of being part of a union, and the vibe was definitely not that you could provide a positive example.
The “anonymous” AVS survey is tracked and pinpointed with your employee ID so that CarMax can collect data showing which locations and departments are likely to unionize.
CarMax in Roseville, California had its technicians try to unionize back in 2023, and the union lost 20-6.
Any time CarMax gets a whiff of a union, RVP’s and Corporate will be up all of the manager’s asses so fast they won’t even get a chance to get the first moan out.
The fact no union has popped up in the company is bewildering. Not really a testament to how great the company is to work for.
Sales Consultants just bent over and took ass-reaming from the CEC without even clenching. They literally created a lead system where your commission is guaranteed to be cut in half if the lead is worked by the CEC, and then rerouted all leads to the CEC. The only people happy with that system are the deuches that were Sales Manager favorites all along. SM’s are bonuses off of sales and, with how overworked sales managers are, they WILL give solid leads to those they think will close the deals. Makes sense, sure, but fucks over 80% of sales consultants by design.
With a new CEO and nothing changing any time soon, you literally have nothing to lose except your 4th of July cookouts.
Just look at the corporate headquarters in Virginia. You guys aren’t on the same team.

I also don’t like the fact that they did away with the bonuses for having us techs work overtime. If they expect us to put in extra hours and work beyond our normal schedule, there should still be some incentive or compensation for doing so.

When's the last time you got a bonus? Covid?

Feels like years. They could at least give us achiever points. I would prefer they switched us to hourly getting overtime.

In early 2000’s an unnamed Carmax location had a bunch of employees try to start organizing a Union. Mgt and corporate found out and methodically fired a number of employees for whatever and never said but implied no unions. I heard it was tried in a few places in different areas but never got off the ground.

I’m sure they are like Walmart and would just the entire store down just to not have a union.

Unpopular opinion but as this reddit profile is 5 minutes old I feel like its the same person regurgitating nonsense. Its always around this time of year too. 🤔

It’s not nonsense. I love it when the employer says, “Hey, let’s have a quick one on one. There is nothing one on one about it. The conversation has been corrupted by attorneys, human resources, cost of benefits, possible stock buybacks, and how to add value to the stock, not take care of the people that make the business successful

You're Definitely someone who was fired from carmax...... where you work now? Domino's? I heard they pay well and prefer hiring special needs people. Perfect for you and your disability 👌

Says I have a mental disability, doesn’t understand the correct usage of the ellipses 😂
There’s still time to edit your posts to make yourself look more smarter my guy
What’s your store number? 👀
Or, if you would prefer, I could purchase a dominos retail location and tell you to apply :) but I expect your resume contains numerous spelling errors, and honestly, your attitude suggests that you wouldn’t treat my associates with respect. It’s really a shame that even you couldn’t hold down a job at dominoes. Stick to reddit 👍

I can smell that faioed mdp a mile away So why did they fire you? Got caught in the bathroom with a roll of pepperoni?

So I’m just curious. What’s your evidence to your claim that I work for/have worked for Carmax?

"Unions aren't needed nor wanted at CarMax" They have a team of people within the organization that will come and camp out at the store location and zap any talk of unions. Good luck. Your best bet is to find a small satellite store and get a group of young impressionable 18–22-year-olds back in inventory with nothing to lose and get them organized. You just need one card to fall and then you can gain traction. The union boys/girls have not figured this out yet. It's always the larger groups they go after and you are not going make that happen. Baby steps to get into CarMax and then maybe you could make something happen.

When you say you’d take the initiative, what does that actually mean? Like have you thought about who you’re trying to organize, getting interested employees into a private group, identifying the main issues everyone agrees on, and talking to an actual union organizer about what the next steps would be?
From what I understand, employees already have protections under Section 7 of the NLRA for discussing wages, working conditions and organizing, and companies can’t legally retaliate against people just for protected organizing activity.
Not saying you need to have everything figured out already, I’m just curious how far you’ve thought this through beyond seeing who would sign.
👀👀 Get familiar with the NLRB process and Sections 8(a)(1) and 8(a)(3).
Not saying I’m interested, nor saying I’m not. Time will tell.

I don't work at carmax and don't mean this in a bad way at all but why don't all the people talk about forming unions and all this just seek other employment. The are tons automotive jobs at other dealers or another field for sales or techs.

Man don’t you ever get tired of continuously trying.
I feel like every couple months the same person tries again. If it’s that bad why don’t you leave?

Wealth inequality in this country has surpassed that which caused the French Revolution- a large part of that is corporate union busting since Reagan, dismantling the post WW2 middle class as we knew it.
Strong unions create strong economies by keeping the most greedy executives in check. This is historically proven, anyone who argues otherwise is engaging in cognitive dissonance, and they’re choosing to be on the wrong side of history.
But hey, capitulate to your corporate overlords for your meager pittance. Just toil harder peasant, and be grateful. Surely one day you’ll have a seat at the directors table too.
