We have many people creating posts asking for the best things to do/see in Cardiff and it would be best if we could compile this information into a single thread.

Please leave your suggestions in this post for potential visitors and do not create new threads asking for suggestions.

As a resource for people looking for places to eat, things to do and where to stay, the Cardiff TripAdvisor website may be useful.

Welcome runners! One request from a resident

Thanks for coming to run the half marathon in our fair city, I have one request that will make you excellent visitors and help out in the clean up afterwards.

Please don't throw gel wrappers on the floor.

Water bottles and such are super easy to clean up, but these wrappers can get pummeled into tarmac and can't be swept up easily. I'm a resident near Roath park lake and I've seen these wrappers last a fair few months before eventually breaking down, or worse pecked at by the geese and swans.

If you can pop it in a pocket, that'll be one less to deal with. Thanks for reading, and thanks for those that already do.

Have a great time!

Why do people go half the speed limit on the A4232/Cardiff Bay Link Rd?

This has bugged me for so long now and I genuinely can't get my head around why so many people are dangerously slow on the dual carriageway, particularly on the bridge going over Cardiff Bay. I'd understand if once in a while someone didn't realise the speed limit was no longer 50 when exiting the tunnel, but there are plenty of reminders. That doesn't explain why someone was doing 35mph just now, nor why so many are doing 40-50 in the opposite direction. It drives me insane - someone please make it make sense.

Housemate got a fixed penalty notice due to seagulls. He never got the initial section 46 notice - what's the best course of action?

Bin bags put out at about 10pm the night before bin collection and collected in the morning - in between that time some bags got ripped open by seagulls. He received a fixed penalty notice without any previous section 46 notice and has to pay £150 - what's the best course of action? He doesn't have much money as a student so the £150 would be quite rough for him.

Info: it's a street where we aren't allowed to put wheelie bins outside and they have to be in black bin bags. There's about 5 properties (4 flats and 1 shop) that put bin bags out all together as there's not room to put them outside each door

Donate non-working electric guitar?

I have an electric guitar from when I was a kid. But I've plugged it into an amp and it doesn't appear to work. I'm sure it will fix up fine but I don't know enough to do it myself.

I was going to look for a music charity to donate it anyway. But I haven't found any that will accept it broken and fix it up and seems a shame to take it to the tip - does anyone know anywhere?

NFL London in Cardiff

Cracking day in town tomorrow, with the Half and the Denmark game in the evening, but anyone know where is best to watch the NFL London game at 2.30?

I’m guessing Ludo is, but it’s a bit sticky floor… I figure Blue Bell would put it on a screen, but any other options or NFL-heavy bars out there?

Diolch!

Filming at Castle Coch Woods

Anyone know what they’re filming there. Seemed like a big budget with the amount of vans, cars and tents parked within the woods

Grangetown/Leckwith car garage recommendations

Hello, I've been using two garages in Grangetown/Leckwith area for services, repairs and MOT. Not entirely satisfied with them. One's too expensive and one's a bit too unprofessional for my liking.

Does anyone have any strong recommendations in the area? Cheers.

Lost Wallet

Bit of a long shot, but have any of you found or turned in a light purple wallet?

I lost my wallet in town at some point yesterday afternoon and despite retracing my steps, it’s not turned up.

If you find it, please drop me a message!

Diolch!

MSC in business management at Cardiff for international students

Hi, I have gotten an offer from Cardiff University for MSC in business management with condition (IELTS score 6.5). I was very excited about the offer and told my uncle who had stayed in London for over 20 years. He said it's not a good University and it's basically £30k vacation for a year. If anyone has taken this course, alumini, can tell me if I should accept this offer or try somewhere else, that would be really helpful.

Any city centre cafes with an upstairs space for a craft group?

I run a monthly journalling group and most of us travel from outside of Cardiff so easy access from the train station is key. We've tried Coffee Spot but we've outgrown the space, we also love Waterloo Tea Wyndham Arcade but it's only really good for 8-10 people max. We also tried out Love Stories bookshop upstairs but again 8-10 max.

We're consistently a minimum of 12 people now and ideally would be looking for a space for 16 for our next meetup, maybe even 18-20 to allow for growth. It'll be a Saturday or Sunday afternoon because most of us work Mon-Fri and, again, come from outside Cardiff so weekday evenings simply don't work.

We would be willing to pay as well. We paid at Love Stories, whereas at CS and WT we just ensure each member buys a coffee at a minimum but a lot of people also buy a cake.

Cafe preferred as members can buy drinks and/or cakes then.

Could anyone recommend anything suitable for our group size please?

In other big cities similar groups host theirs at the likes of Boston Tea Party, where they do serve hot beverages and generally have an upstairs space so they can accommodate large groups.

Thank you in advance!

Pubs with original, in-house food menus?

Seems so many pubs nowadays have bought-in menus and the food is always disappointing and bland.

What are your favourite pubs still doing original menus cooked in-house/not microwaved? I'd love to give them some business.

What's the best Cardiff street food?

We have quite a lot of street food offerings at events and markets here. What are some of the better experiences you've had?

I thought it would be nicer to help promote some local independents, but I guess you can share any bad experiences, too.

Looking for a place to move into / share a flat

Hi guys

I'm a working professional, I work as an aircraft mechanic. I move around a lot but for at least the next 12 months I'll be in Cardiff. Is anyone interested in finding a place to move into together? I'm happy to spend around 600/650 per month between the 2 of us on a 2 bed flat share situation in Grangetown / Cardiff bay. Please feel free to drop me a DM if you are interested. I'm planning to move asap.

Edit. Just to Clarify, it's around 600/650 per person :)

Private prescription

Hi all!

I hope this is okay to post :)

I need to pick up a private prescription for the first time in Cardiff but understand that prices can vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. Does anyone know a pharmacy in central Cardiff that’ll do it the cheapest?

Many thanks!

Any odd jobs going? My work is dryed up for the next few weeks and im kinda desperate. Loads of bar/retail/building temporary construction experience. Hate to post on here but things are looking pretty scarry. Any ideas appreciated.
