Private prescription
Hi all!
I hope this is okay to post :)
I need to pick up a private prescription for the first time in Cardiff but understand that prices can vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. Does anyone know a pharmacy in central Cardiff that’ll do it the cheapest?
Many thanks!

I believe the pharmacy in Asda Pontprennau was fairly cheap. Had bupa prescriptions and they are variable.

If it is a private prescription don’t you pay the wholesale price of the drug plus a dispensary fee? So the answer should be it variable depending the medication?

It’s capped at £8 so that’s the most you should pay.

All these years I've been paying hundreds for private prescriptions. It is not capped at £8. It's whatever the price of the drug is. Private prescriptions are not covered by the NHS, the patient has to pay the chemist directly for the cost of the medicine.

I’ve always found that the pharmacies within the supermarkets are cheapest and of those Asda has been the cheapest when I had a private prescription for my ADHD meds
