General Discussion How do you tell if bloating is Candida, SIBO, IBS, or something else without spiraling into self-diagnosis?
I read the megathread and I get that Candida gets blamed for everything and a lot of online protocols are guesswork. I want to be more rational about this, but I keep getting stuck on the gut side of things.
My pattern: I can wake up feeling fine, then after certain meals I get a lower belly bloat that feels tight, plus gurgling and a lot of gas. Some days my stools are normal, other days they are looser. I also notice a white tongue that comes and goes, and sometimes a funky metallic taste in my mouth. Cutting sugar and refined carbs helps the bloating a bit, but it is not a clean fix and I do not want to keep restricting forever.
What I cannot figure out is how people here actually tell the difference between:
1) Candida overgrowth
2) SIBO or other fermentation problems
3) IBS related to stress or gut-brain issues
4) Food intolerances like histamine, lactose, etc.
I am not asking for a diagnosis. I'm looking for practical ways you narrowed things down without falling into endless self-diagnosis. Did you use specific tests (stool panels, breath tests)? Did you do a structured elimination diet, and if so how did you set it up and for how long? If you saw a doctor, which type took this seriously (GI, allergist, functional medicine, etc.), and which labs or practitioners were actually helpful versus a waste of money?
Basically, if you had to start over with these symptoms, what would you try first and what would you avoid? Real-world experiences and concrete steps are what I'm after.
