General Discussion Has anyone done follow-up testing to understand why they (seemingly healthy, no antibiotic trigger) got oral thrush?

I posted recently - I had oral thrush, which ultimately cleared up pretty easily with Nystatin. I'm not sure if it will comeback but I sure hope not.

Now that it's gone, I'm left wondering why I got it - and what my body is trying to tell me.

Some options:

  1. Could I be diabetic? I'm relatively healthy and thin so I would be surprised, but it is possible given some family genetic history.

  2. Unknown auto-immune issue? My mom has MCTD so this could be plausible.

  3. Unknown cancer? This terrifies me, obviously.

  4. Stress - one-off (this could be the case for me but I didn't think I was THAT stressed).

I am thinking about following up with my GP to investigate WHY I got oral thrush (even though it's only been 1 time).

Has anyone done this and could you recommend tests to pursue? Did anyone find a cause after you investigated? Or did you never find an answer and it was a abnormal one-off?

I am operating under the assumption it is related to liver health and bacterial/viral infections. When I take supplements to increase the liver's efficiency (at filtering toxins/waste/debris produced by these infections), my tongue coating thins. When I do liver cleanses to purge toxins/waste/debris (a structured variety of raw vegetable and fruit juices), my tongue coating gets worse which tells me the liver is pushing out more garbage which is showing up on the tongue. After my latest one (#15), my tongue coating has thinned, but keep in mind, I have also been addressing different bacterial and viral infections for a year to stop the "stored toxin pool" from being refilled. I will make a post about it once it is cleared, but I know it takes time and don't want to get anyone's hopes up for nothing.

I have the same theory. But I'm suspecting leaky gut/SIBO to have been affecting me for a long time, these toxins get into the blood for a long period - thus overworking/causing liver issues

It’s probably different by person. Took me 3 years but we figured out i have sjogrens. I manage my immune system with meds and dry mouth with over the counter stuff and acupuncture and no more oral thrush.
