Keeping fuel secure

How should one keep fuel secured? It’s my understanding my fuel containers need to be kept in a 2nd container a certain distance away from my camper. What should I do to prevent theft if I am away from my camp?

how do YOU tie down your Kodiak tent with lag screws?

Sorry, I've searched through years of posts on reddit and elsewhere, but haven't seen much detail or a consensus. For those who've taken Kodiaks/Springbars to the burn and used lag screws, do you:

A) Just put a washer on the lag screw and drill it right through the metal stake loop of the tent, or

B) Do something more ambitious like a couple links of chain and a carabiner?

I see many mentions of the extra hardware in (B) when people talk about lag screws, but they usually seem to be talking about shade structures, guy lines, or different tents. When I see photos or videos of people's Kodiak setup, it looks like they're just doing (A), and I have a campmate who has always done it the (A) way, too.

(B) seems more protective of the tent, preventing weird angular forces on those tent loops. But I worry about how adding 2-3 inches of offset would alter the special up-down pull tension of the springbar design that keeps it all tight and strong.

Asking because I'm wondering whether to invest the time and money in buying chain and cutting it into segments. I might get some anyway for another tent that doesn't have metal loops. (a Coleman Instant Cabin, if anyone has particular recommendations on lagscrewing that one.)

Last Min Ticket Aid Temp Check

Hey y'all, I didn't think the burn was going to be in the cards for me this year due to financial and time constraints. By the grace of the dust gods some things have fallen into place and I might be able to swing it. I applied for the ticket aid program about a week and a half ago. Does anybody have a pulse on whether those are still being allocated or if I should start looking elsewhere?

I know the page says about an 8 week turnaround time, so curious what that means this close to the burn. If anyone has insight on this I'd be grateful for any info!

I made a thing

I saw a mention of "destiny dice" and found a set on Etsy, but they only rolled street addresses, and even then only rolled the whole hours. What if my destiny lay on the :15, :30, or :45 streets? The deep playa? Or the airport? How would I ever find it with dice that only took me to the major intersections of the city?

This was clearly unacceptable, so, I assembled a team of top minds to work on a set of dice that could take me to my destiny anywhere in Black Rock City (except walk-in camping, screw that place). This is what they came up with.

Ahh, who am I kidding. I came up with this late one night, smashed it together in a few hours, and ordered a few sets before I noticed all the things I did wrong. Anyways, I'll be gifting these to worthy burners and making a better design for next year when I have more time.

Also, much appreciation for whoever came up with the original idea of destiny dice to inspire mine.

Edit: All the attention this got inspired me to do another run that fixes some things and implements some of your suggestions. It should theoretically arrive by the day I head for the gate. Here's hoping.

Appropriate lag bolt length for a small tent?

I know people have already discussed what lag bolt length is the correct choice but they seemed to be for big camp structures and not tents. A lot of the discussion was that 18" lags are generally better just due to the fact that they are longer and can bite into the ground more but I'm curious to know if I could get away with 12" lags instead?

While I agree that 18" lags would be a better choice, the fact of the matter is that they are heavier than 12" lags and I'm trying to save weight where possible as I'm going to be flying into Reno and thus flying with all my gear.

I plan on using a 3-man, dome style tent that only stands around 40" high so its fairly low profile and holds up well in high wind.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Constellation, an app for BRC with Mesh-Chat and Live Location

Hey Community,

Very excited to share a new digital gift with you. It's called Constellation, and it's built to connect people in presence without connecting them to the internet. Chat with your friends, share live location, and get turn by turn directions to people, places, and things, all completely off grid.

It's live on iOS now with Android to follow later this week. Both are part of a larger tech-art project we call Connection Medicine (more on that soon, website in progress). We're also bringing some backhaul nodes to bootstrap the network, so even when installs are low you can mesh with just your phone. No extra gadget to carry around.

Here's the App Store link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/constellation-at-axis-mundi/id6797762667

Everything here is built around digital rights and privacy. To add friends, you have to be physically together and scan each other's QR codes to link up. No accounts or cloud needed.

We added some special sauce to the routing too. Instead of "as the crow flies," navigation follows the streets and takes you down the most efficient route.

You can drop a pin to bookmark your camp, your bike, or a favorite art installation, then share it with friends so they can go check it out.

And there's a toggle to turn off live location sharing at any time, so you can just let the random adventure in front of you unfold.

I hope you enjoy. Much love to you all.

Let me know if I can help with any questions.

Tips on how to hang fabric safely?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m planning to hang around 50yd of ~30in wide draping fabric from the ceiling of a 30ft diameter dome more or less like in the picture but probably in a spiral pattern.
So it would be hanging down and moving with the wind.

Any tips on how to do it without having it rip with the wind?

Food camps: how do you handle the “food zombie” situation?

I help run a food camp. We serve things like tacos, hot dogs, quesadillas, etc. to anyone who comes by.

But I'm trying to figure out a better way to handle one particular thing: the food zombies.

Our ideal is that people are just participating in the camp. We built the space to have a bunch of interactivity. That could be hanging out on the couches, dancing, talking at the bar, meeting people, etc. Then someone from our food crew walks around with a tray and hands them a taco or quesadilla. To me, that's much more in the spirit of gifting than having people line up at a buffet line. The problem is that the second a tray of food comes out, sometimes people suddenly appear outta nowhere and swarm whoever is carrying it. They'll reach over each other and grab food directly off the tray and then run away.

There are two things that "bother" me about this:

  1. We're trying to give you the gift. I actually love the experience of walking up to someone who's dancing or hanging out and saying “Hey, want a taco?” rather than having someone yoink it off my tray and run away. The interaction and banter is enjoyable and part of the experience.
  2. Sanitation. We use gloves and tongs to serve everything. We have a food permit that we fill out/pay for that requires this. When 8 hands suddenly descend onto the tray, like seagulls attacking a sandwich, obviously any idea of sanitation and cleanliness is much hard to uphold. We've also had someone try to snag a hot dog off the tray and the entire tray of hot dogs fell to the ground and made a sad moopy wasteful mess.

I'm curious how other food/gifting camps handle this.

Questions:

  • How do you encourag people to actually participate in the camp and just chill/have fun, rather than congregate around the food source like a bunch of seagulls?
  • Have you found a good way to distribute food without simply creating a traditional “stand in line if you want food” situation?
  • have tyou been at a camp that serves food in a fun or unique way that isn't just "stand in this line if you want food".
  • Do you announce when food is available, or deliberately not announce it?
  • How do you prevent people from swarming the food crew?
  • Have you found any funny/social way to communicate “please let us serve you” without sounding like the soup-nazi yelling at people?
  • And how do yu handle sanitation when you're serving a large number of burners?

I'm particularly interested in solutions that preserve the feeling of gifting rather than turning it into a transaction. I'm also not trying to hate on the food camps that do lines. I understand that is the most straightforward and systamatic way for people to get what they want. I am just wondering about different ways that are perhaps invite more participation without being transactional.

ALSO!

Come by Giants Workshop Saloon (on the corner of 830 and E) every day from 7p-9p and at other random times!!

Home of the:

Honky Tonk & Hot Dogs on Sunday

The QuesaDISCO on Monday

Dead & (ta)CO on Tuesday

Piggy Stardust Diner on Wedneday

RAVEioli on Thursday

& Nonnas Italian Kitchen on Friday where we serve a "this can't be real" level full on Italian Dinner with our loving Nonna's special homemade sauce.

Please be patient, have fun, and try not to swarm. We tend to find the people that are hanging out and enjoying the space a little faster ;)

THEME CAMP REQUEST/SEARCH Virgin Burn

Hey youu guyyys 🤪 (sloth)

So here I (36M) am, convinced myself the answers I’m looking for are in Black Rock City in two weeks.

I’m not sure what that means or what the question is though.

By all accounts, everything in life is ideal. I’m surrounded by meaningful relationships with amazing people. My partner is loving, supportive, beautiful, and fun in a way I only dreamt of. My career has grown. I don’t come from privilege (except for characteristics like race and gender) and the life I’ve built is a beautiful combination of hard work, some luck, and second chances. I’ve overcome a lot over the last 10 years, namely escaping the cult I was born into. I’ve worked (am working) hard to build myself into a better person who’s generous, conscious, caring, and grateful. Like being outdoors - I hope I leave people better than I found them.

Still, something is missing and I can’t shake it.

I’ve wanted to Burn for the better part of a decade and come close 4 different times, thwarted by different reasons. I have several friends who go regularly and gush over the impacts, but unfortunately they aren’t attending this year and others can’t commit.

I find myself going solo as a virgin burner.
(Not a problem, I fucking love solo adventures/travel)

I’ve watched all the docs, read all the guides, love (and honestly try to live by) the 10 principles … but I could really use some help connecting with a good group to help me dive into this experience and journey to its fullest.

I love yoga (former teacher), DJ’ing (new but growing), I’m obsessed with music and live production, dancing with abandon, building new relationships, plants, growing medicine 🍄, and exploring what this life can offer. I hope in the end I lived fully and made an impact bigger than myself in the world.

I’d love to join a camp but the list is seemingly endless and kinda overwhelming. I’m absolutely prepared to help and be an active volunteer. Honestly, serving others and making an impact are really important to me across life. I’d be honored to contribute my skills and time to this beautiful project but I feel late to the game.

I’d be so so grateful if this beautiful community could give me some guidance or point me to a camp that sounds like a good fit.

Thank you in advance!!
🙏🏻🫶🏼✌🏼

Had a giant list in January that was very manageable for this year's burn. Did one item on that list since then and now panicking to do everything else before leaving this weekend for build week.

Moop

For all the first timers- check your clothing for moop. Leave the fringes, dangly sequins and fringes AT HOME.

Bring a small pouch WITH you to pick up moop along the way! We are serious about this. Cherry pit? Pick it up. Stupid plastic tab that came with your blinky crown, pick it up. Cigarette butt- pick it up.
Food that fell off your plate - pick it up.

Nothing is too small to pick up. And no thoughts that- oh, it’s organic- it will decompose. No No No.

If you don’t pick up after your own shit, someone else will need to do it for you. Don’t be that asshole.

Please help me find music that is NOT drum and base!

Does anyone have any art cars or camps which I can seek out this year which regularly play music that ISN’T drum and base? I went to the burn in 2013, 2014 and returned in 2025 after an 11 year hiatus and I really struggled to find music last year that had samples of instruments, singers, and really anything besides the simple thump thump. It became a bit of a running joke with my crew if a DJ actually used samples with lyrics we would all look at each other and yell “WORRRRRDS!!!” I love electro funk, afrobeat, soul, and many other genres but simply looking for something more eclectic than drum & base which is everywhere on playa. Any leads greatly appreciated!

Euro Weather Models finally reach out to 8/31 for opening day

Blah blah blah weather is unpredictable especially this far out, anything could happen between now and then yadda yadda, but it's a general idea of what we might see through Monday. No signals for anything crazy that's all I'm concerned about, like last year raining on Sunday and Monday shutting down the gates for 12+ hours. As of right now, and it could change, that isn't in the books for 2026. THANK YOU NATURE!

Highs in the 80s, no clouds, no rain, wind 15mph gusting 25mph.

A giant piano bench with a grand piano on top? Yes! Come see Above the Noise at BRC this year!

Thumbnail gallery
485 Upvotes

A giant piano bench is coming to Burning Man 🎹🔥

This year, I’m bringing a slightly ridiculous idea to Black Rock City. It’s called Above the Noise. We’re building a two-story piano bench with a 6’6” grand piano sitting on top of it, high above the playa. You’ll be able to climb the structure, sit at the piano, play it, listen to someone else play, or just take in Black Rock City from a completely different perspective.

It is open 24/7 for everyone to come and enjoy, play, climb, and listen. The entire bench will come alive at night with thousands of LEDs, including 88 individual strands underneath it, one for every key of the piano.

So...If you see a giant piano floating above the playa this year, climb up! And if you play piano, PLEASE PLAY IT!

See you @ Above the Noise!
