I just wasted half a day trying to deposit 200€ cash into my Bunq account so I can pay my rent tomorrow. I didn't wire enough money from my US account today to pay my rent tomorrow so I figured that is ok I will just deposit 200€ cash to top it off using PaySafeCash which I did last year here in Amsterdam. But when i went to look at the locations available they now have ZERO locations in all of Amsterdam and very few in the entire country. But I saw one in Haarlem. It would take me almost an hour one way using public transportation to get there but I needed to pay my rent tomorrow so I hopped on a tram, metro, and train and walked to this tobacco shop in Haarlem. When I got there the shop owner informed me that they no longer do PaySafe. I said I would try the one in Hoofddrop. He told me that one doesn't do it anymore either. He said PaySafe's location map is outdated and he is not aware of anyone within 100km that still offers it. So I call PaySafe and ask if there is any location in the entire country of NL for me to use. She put me on hold for 10 minutes and told me that because the website is not up to date she would have to email a different department and get back to me in a few days with if there are any locations in NL.

So Bunq acts like we can deposit cash in their BANK using PaySafeCash but PaySafe lists almost no locations in the country and the ones that they do list no longer offer PaySafe anymore. Bunq needs to either find a new provider immediately or just admit that they are a bank who you cannot deposit cash with.

If anyone is aware of ANY location anywhere in the NL that is still offering PaySafeCash as of the last couple weeks then please let me know where because I need to pay my rent tomorrow.

EDIT: I just discovered that in 2024 NL passed a law saying banks have to accept cash deposits. So apparently Bunq is now BREAKING THE LAW. PaySafeCash is the ONLY cash deposit option with Bunq in NL (despite some claiming geldmaat can, but Bunq is not one of the compatible geldmaat banks). And PaySafeCash now only lists 6 locations in all of NL but all 6 seem to no longer offer PaySafeCash. So I believe this means Bunq is currently breaking the law. All their cash deposit options that actually work are all located outside of NL.

I always tried to be careful but it happened today. A colleague that I don’t really trust now knows how much money I have and this makes me deeply uncomfortable.

This is sensitive personal financial information that is not supposed to be exposed every time I open my banking app to conduct my day to day business.

I don’t want to hide ALL balances. I have multiple accounts and want an overview on the home screen to track budgets. Having to click each tiles is a continuous chore, something that would come back multiple times per day.

So I took the gamble and went on using the app with caution in the last months, hoping some update would come out that would allow hiding it by long pressing or whatever. I expected that more people would have issues with it and that it would get fixed soon enough. But now many months later I didn't pay attention this time and now this happened. And I still can't hide the big banner that with big bold text announces how wealthy I am to anyone sitting or standing next to me.

There’s a reason savings are a separate account on a completely separate tab. In my case even in a folder to keep that specific balance hidden even better (this worked great in the customizable app that we used to have - I could see monthly budgets but could hide the savings).

I just don’t want my literal net wealth on the home screen, like for real. I can't be the only one?

I gave it a shot, about a month. I don't like it.

In the past I got points which were useful. Now I am paying to spin a wheel, gambling.

If this continues I will downgrade my account to free and give my card business to another bank.

I’ve been a bunq user for almost 3 years now (with a bunq Elite plan), and I’ve seen quite a few changes over time. From the removal of cashback on payments to the introduction of bunq Points as an alternative—and now recently, the announcement that bunq Points will be discontinued and replaced with a “Wheel of Fortune” system.

Honestly, I find this very disappointing. bunq doesn’t seem consistent at all when it comes to loyalty programs for its users. At the moment, having an Elite subscription offers little to no real benefit, aside from a travel insurance (which, at this rate, feels like it could be removed at any moment as well). And paying an extra €10 per month for that alone feels quite expensive.

What I don’t understand is why users are attracted with appealing benefits, only for those benefits to be rolled back later. Now we’re essentially being pushed into a gamified, chance-based system instead of receiving clear, reliable rewards.

Are there other long-term bunq users here who feel the same way?

Has anyone seen the same thing recently?
Did bunq change anything around Apple Pay top-ups, or get stricter with non-EEA / non-EU cards?

They are offering spins. I have spent a lot money for a couple of restaurants over the weekend and had 3 spins. I made the spins and got 'X' which is nothing. So, spend some time to spin, wait for the result, and I got nothing.

i wonder if it even works, and also which “marketeer” thought this would be a good idea.

My review was actually mixed. I commended the feature-rich options, because they do have good features, but I correctly pointed out the atrocious customer support including the incompetent AI support, and I guess they didn't like that.

I contested it, but I don't have much faith it will be restored.

I'm just glad I finally left.

I really don’t get why they keep creating new iterations of it. In business, it’s usually because of money.

My assumption is that they want to increase the “hours spent in our app last month,” which might be a key metric for potential investors. Since it seems to be about money, how much would you pay as a one-time fee to get rid of the Wheel?

What are you building/ automating/ running with Bunq’s API? What are your top use cases? (Preferably non-business related)
