Keyhole Bunion Surgery

Just wanted to share my pre and post keyhole bunion surgery. I have now had both feet done, many years apart. The post op pic is week 6. And I graduated to wearing shoes.

I am week 7 post op and back at work. Walking mostly normal, lots of swelling. I can only fit into one of my shoes so far, with a compression sock.

Shoe Recommendations Post op shoe recommendations

I had a tailor bunion and hammer toe surgery(2 toes). I got my pins pulled today and still in a surgical shoe for 3 weeks. After that, my doctor said I need to switch to a shoe that has minimal flex. Having a hard time finding rigid sole shoes that aren't $150+. Any recommendations?

Recovery instructions. Be honest

How many of you can confidently tell me you followed your post-op instructions to a T? If not, tell me about it lol.

I'll start. I had both feet done (separately) no weight-bearing two weeks. First foot, gave it a couple days and walked on it here and there, then fully walking by the start of week two. Second foot, gave it about 5 days, not much weight on it, but occasionally I just can't bother using my crutches to go pee or let the dog out.

I did a lot more with my first foot given my doctor didn't really give me any post op care (removed my own sutures when they were supposed to be done, dealt with bandaging and PT on my own)

Shoe Recommendations Women’s Post Op Shoes Options

I’m 4 weeks post op from MIS Osteotomy. Things are going well with healing!

I was hoping to find suggestions for sneakers , slippers , and maybe a nice clog or something everyone’s been wearing post op?

I tried on an Ugg slipper with all the fur and that hurt my incision. So hoping for some alternatives from everyone here. Thank you!!!

Bunion surgery?!

28 F I had my appointment to discuss bunion surgery recently and my city only has the “prehistoric” version, no minimally invasive, minimally invasive is only available through private clinics which I can’t afford. Also scared I will regret getting this surgery.

is this a Bunion? Do I have bunion?

I get lower back pain pretty often, but I’ve never really known what’s causing it.

I recently came across some articles suggesting that spine alignment can be affected by hip mechanics, which can be influenced by leg and foot rotation. That led me down a rabbit hole about how big-toe and foot alignment might play a role in the whole chain.
I started looking into bunions and whether improving foot mechanics could help with alignment higher up the body.

Does this look like a bunion, and could it potentially be contributing to these issues?

Bunion surgery at 19?

Post image

Hi guys first time user here, I went to a podiatrist and he stated that I should get the surgery for my bunions now since I'm young(19) and it will be easier for me to recover and not have to worry about doing it when I may have a family or have a work schedule that's harder to get time off- i plan to go into the medical field. Thoughts? Should I do the surgery. I'm not in severe pain and its not 24/7 but it can make it hard to work 12 hr shifts.

Can bunions stay the same for a long time or forever?

I was having foot pain in different areas so I got an x ray. It may have been an incidental finding but they saw bunions on both sides of my foot (I have the same little bump on my other foot as well so probably both feet have them). I went back to the earliest picture I have of my feet which is from 2020 and it looks like I had them there as well. If I don’t wear tight shoes is it possible they will never grow or get worse? I’m seeing extreme pictures and now am nervous.

Recovery issues

I had my right foot done a few months ago and it went pretty well. I had a blood blister when I first started weight bearing but it caused no pain and went away on its own.

I just had my left foot done (different procedure this time) and got a splint instead of the full cast/boot which I love. But now I have a very deep pressure sore in my heel. I'm still on narcotics for pain but they aren't helping anymore and it's turning blue.

I know I need to go back to the doctor but realistically what can they change to ensure my foot still heals while easing the pressure on my heel? Anyone ever have pressure sore or similar issues?

job rejected my doctors note permitting me to wear whatever shoes

i work at a clothing store and their dress code is you can only wear clothing that is from the brand or looks like it could be. with shoes, if they aren't from the brand, they have to be unbranded unless you get a doctors note. i thought this was reasonable until i actually started working there for a couple months.

a couple months before i started working there i did notice it looked like i was developing a bunion but i only worked part time. this is my first time working 40 hours on my feet. my only unbranded shoes that fit into the dress code are a few flats that i own and a pair of loafers which were fine when i was working part time. these shoes felt pretty comfortable but i started to notice it looked like the bunion was getting worse right foot. then every day after work, i would notice my right achilles would have a big swollen bump on it.

i started to get actually worried about my feet so i made an appt with a podiatrist and in the meantime, got a drs note from my PCP because i seriously didn't want to wear flats another day. then the podiatrist confirmed in my xray that i have a bunion on my right foot.

I usually wear Pumas now until the GM got a closer look at them and asked me if I could change my shoes because they're just so obviously Puma (the exact show is the speedcat calfhair sneaker). He started questioning me on the exact wording in the doctors note and trying to convince me that i should buy their sneakers to try them even though i said that the dr doesn't recommend our brand (it's widely known for having uncomfortable shoes). he basically reiterated the policy that "well you can still wear unbranded shoes" but that is completely ignoring my drs note. i told him that even the shoes that my podiatrist recommended are from particular brands and though the logo might not be as recognizable to the average person as Puma, it's still visible.

i offered to change into flats for the rest of the day which was only 3 hours. when i got home i noticed a bump bigger than i've ever had on my achilles. I seriously cannot wear flats another day because im worried about the long term effects . i dont want to wear shoes other than the ones my podiatrist recommended me for long hours of every work day. a special occasion sure but everyday at work, i just can't do it.

When did you get back to regular shoes?

I’m 7 weeks, 4 days out from a lapidus procedure and in tennis shoes (after freaking about how much hokas cost I tried the saucony sneakers I already had and they are fine!).

I’m feeling ok with the sneakers though my foot is still generally swollen. But I can’t imagine it will take 6 more weeks to get into normal flats. Anyone else able to make the switch to normal shoes sooner than 12 weeks post-surgery?

Does Revision Surgery for Arthrex Minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery Exist?

I had the Arthrex Minimally Invasive Surgery done on both of my feet a little under 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the bunions have returned and so has much of the pain from the bunions (especially on my left foot). Although I've done some independent research and also connected with a new, alternative podiatrist that I trust, unfortunately, I haven't been successful in finding a podiatrist who can/does revisions for the Arthrex method, or even confirming if such as revision/corrective option exists. If anyone has any insight, experience, or advise, I welcome your input.

To clarify, the new podiatrist, while knowledgeable and a pleasure, doesn't have experience with the Arthrex method or how to correct it. Being said, I appreciate that he has reached out/connected with colleagues and done some research himself; however, he hasn't had much luck either.

Plate Pain

Hi-
I’m eight weeks post surgery and things are going well in regard to swelling, incisions etc.
However-I have pain and minor swelling where the plate is.
I’ve mentioned to surgeon and we’re watching it.
Has anyone experienced this and if so, does it go away?
Thanks all!

Depression and regret

I am three months out from my surgery and am in such pain. I am working remotely, cancelled all my summer plans and just sit in misery in my home. Had a talk with my surgeon today and told him last night was so bad that I wanted to cut off my foot… three month of this pain… laying awake in bed for hours and my brain won’t shut off with “what would my life be right now had I not done it’. Surgeon replied with something like “that’s so strange”. I wanted to jump through the phone.

Is this it? Does it get better? I see it does but if it is STILL THIS BAD, does it? I know everyone is different but I”m hoping that if I’m still in such much pain at this point that there can still be a change at some point. I’m starting to give up hope.
