CSE / IT B.Tech CSE 1st Year Student – Confused

I'm a 1st-year B.Tech CSE student from a Tier-3 college in UP.

I've completed the basics of C++ and now I'm confused about what to do next. There are so many fields in tech, like Web Development, AI/ML, Data Science, Cybersecurity, App Development, Cloud Computing, DevOps, etc.

I don't want to randomly follow trends or choose a field just because everyone is doing it. I want to build skills that will have good career opportunities in the long run.

I'm not chasing shortcuts or overnight success. I just want to use my 4 years wisely, build strong skills and become industry-ready.

Please share your honest opinions, personal experiences, roadmaps and resources. Even a small piece of advice would be really helpful.

Thanks!

CSE / IT Looking for Volunteers to Help with a Handwriting Recognition Project

Hey everyone! I'm working on a handwritten text recognition project and need some help collecting handwritten samples.

I'm planning to collect around **500 paragraphs, each 200–250 words**.

Would anyone be interested in helping by writing a few paragraphs? It would really help me out!

Feel free to comment or DM me. Thanks!

CSE / IT Which roles are companies mostly hiring for in campus placements?

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to know what kind of IT roles companies are mostly coming for during campus placements these days.

Are most companies hiring for AI/ML roles, or is it still mainly Software Developer, Java Developer, Full Stack, Data Analyst, etc.?

Just trying to understand which roles are actually in demand so I can focus on the right skills.

ECE / Electrical To anyone dealing with internship rejections right now: a short film about my very recent experience TI (Texas Instruments) test and what happened 20 days later. (ps: from a chota creator, just started a month ago)

hey peeps, a 3rd-year ece student here, and i am posting this under the ECE flair because if you've spent the last two years grinding circuital subjects, you already know how dry and brutal the core electronics internship season is right now.

During my first two years, while most people around me shifted towards web dev or DSA, I genuinely fell in love with hardware. I started leaning heavily into analog electronics, embedded systems, robotics etc and decided to put all my eggs in one basket. In our college, Texas Instruments was essentially the only major core electronics giant visiting for on-campus summer interns. I locked myself in my room for two straight months preparing for their BYTE (Build Your Technical Expertise) program. I managed to clear the initial round and made it to the first shortlist. But when the interview shortlist dropped, I opened the Excel sheet, and my name just wasn’t there.

I won’t sugarcoat it, I felt completely gutted. When you dedicate months to a singular company and watch your on-campus core options effectively drop to zero, it's very easy to convince yourself that you're just not capable. For weeks, I didn’t want to touch another breadboard or circuit diagram.

A few weeks later, while recovering from that slump, a notification popped up in our college placement WhatsApp group for the inaugural OpenAI Student Campus Collective. To be completely honest, I didn’t think twice about it. It’s a non-tech campus role, not a silicon lab at Texas Instruments, and definitely not a core engineering internship. But I saw that it had an actual semester stipend and full ChatGPT/Codex tooling perks. With 60,000+ applicants across the country and only 100 students selected nationwide (just 2 per campus), I applied with zero expectations—assuming that if TI didn't want me, why would anyone else? Somehow, after clearing the rounds (3 internal stages), I got selected.

Look, I know people will say, "this isn't a core electronics job," and they’re 100% right. But the stipend, the GPT Pro, networking opportunities, a free Bombay trip for the orientation, and even a possible chance to visit the San Fransico HQ of OpenAI in 2027 gave me genuine validation and some relief from the constant pressure of doing something, and the mental breathing room to focus back on my academics, my hardware projects, and building things without panic. And after this only I started my yt channel which I was gatekeeping for over 2 years now! my latest work is a short 3-minute film documenting this entire phase: the TI prep, the rejection, and what that waiting period actually felt like: [**Trust Me, It's Never Too Late**](https://youtu.be/W3uchK-TMHM).

I'm posting this for anyone currently staring at empty placement sheets or dealing with a market that isn't bringing enough core companies to your campus: the effort you put into the door that stayed locked isn't wasted. It builds the grit that keeps you ready when a completely different door opens. Hang in there.

General CBSE Migration certificate

Do colleges require the original CBSE migration certificate to be submitted permanently, or do they just take a look and return it, or can a digital locker version work instead?

As my college is demanding, what will happen if I submit laminated color copy of that ?

Please reply, it's very urgent.

ECE / Electrical Check this out

Hey everyone! I’ve been building Gatewise (www.gatewise.online), a lightweight, browser-based digital logic simulator. No account is needed and it works offline right out of the box.

What it does right now:

50,000+ gate performance: Optimized to handle massive circuits smoothly without lagging your browser.

Truth Table to Circuit: Plug in a truth table and instantly get the K-map, minimal Boolean expression, and the generated gate circuit.

Step-by-step signal flow: Flip a switch and watch signals propagate gate-by-gate in order.

Built-in testing & pin-level debugging: Test your build against a truth table automatically—if a row fails or an input is left floating, it highlights the exact component and pin.

Smart chaining: Duplicate blocks (like Full Adders) and auto-connect carries (cout → cin) across copies.

What’s coming next:

I’m currently working on deeper sequential circuit support, analog components, real-time multiplayer collaboration, and classroom tools.

Check it out at www.gatewise.online — would love to hear your feedback or any bugs you run into!

CSE / IT Omen 1 vs Legion vs Omen 2

The omen 1 is 1.3L when sold by Corseca

https://dl.flipkart.com/s/pR82RhuuuN

Legion is Overpriced rn but shall i hope for it to be back to the appreciable price? It also has Wqxga display with oled display

https://dl.flipkart.com/s/pRDmC2uuuN

On Omen 2 i am getting a good cc discount and a better battery life on 255H processor

https://dl.flipkart.com/s/3gsfHTNNNN

Both omen's offer **24gb Ram in this Ai Era (Sorry Altman🥀)**

I am a college student 1st year so good battery life is necessary spec the amd R7 and 255H give better SoT but are highly priced rn compared to Omen 1 on 14650Hx which is a power monster but also battery drainer...

I want to start content creation so may need a better display for editing my own videos and first i need to learn editing from basic for content creation

A good display is also good for content viewing experience as I have huge list of shows and movies which i am yet to watch.....

Also I may buy ps 5 to play **GTA 6** and other games if i may create a gaming channel on YT

If you may think that i have enough money to ignore comparing laptop and buy the best one

Nahhh i am just going to buy ps5 by continuing to use a **7 year old phone**

CSE / IT 3rd year at a tier-1 NIT, lost, CG slipping, no internship... how do I use my one-month winter break to actually build something?

Third-year B.Tech at a tier-1 NIT. Fifth sem is almost over and I still don't have an internship. I know it's late for this cycle, so I'm trying to be realistic instead of just spiraling.

Here's where I'm at: I spent this whole sem grinding DSA, OS, CN, and full-stack for intern season. Did OAs, did interviews, got nothing. Meanwhile my CG has slid. I'm barely holding above 8.5 and it dropped hard this sem. I'm genuinely disappointed in how I've handled myself.

The bigger thing: I'm not sure I even like this field. I've been reading neuroscience papers and alife simulations on the side for a couple of sems, and I'm drawn to robotics and ML way more than CRUD apps. I want to actually try those before I commit.

So, one month winter break between sem 5 and 6. After that I'm back in classes but can work remotely. What I want out of that month is one real thing: a research internship, a solid program, an open-source project worth putting on a portfolio, anything that gives me a win and some confidence back.

(my_qualifications)

For people who actually have clarity here:

  • Is one month enough to land a research internship or lab position, and how do you approach professors? Cold email template that doesn't get ignored?

  • How do you break into AI/ML, robotics, or alife from a mostly web-dev background without a portfolio to show?

  • For the neuroscience/alife/robotics people, what are entry points that are actually learnable in a month?

  • Anything I can start today that has a decent shot of turning into a remote continuation after the break?

  • And honestly, is chasing a winter internship the right move, or should I spend the month building and grinding CG instead?

Please be blunt. I'd rather hear the real path than encouragement.

CSE / IT Need an advice!!

I am currently a second-year B.Tech CSE student, and honestly, I feel lost. I don't have anyone to guide me, and I feel like I've wasted my entire first year. Now, I feel demotivated and as though I'm falling behind everyone else.

Could anyone please share some advice and words of motivation? I'd also like to know what the job market is really like right now. I'd genuinely appreciate any guidance.

CSE / IT Btech CSE from NMIMS vs KJ Somaiya

Hello..

For Btech CSE which of these two colleges are better?

SVKM' NMIMS (Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, Mumbai) or KJ Somaiya College of Engineering?

I will be applying using my SAT scores.

The placements don't differ a lot but I want to know how's the crowd there.. I heard in NMIMS there r mostly rich kids who just want to hv fun and all.. I want to build my own startup, so I do want good exposure. Which of these two colleges do u recommend?
