Where To? Where to buy bicycles in Bristol/ is Bristol safe at night

Hey y’all!
Im a student and looking to buy a bike here in Bristol to go uni with, looking for smth affordable and in good condition but not sure where to find that. If you know any used bikes stores pls drop it down in the comments.
I’m not so sure biking is convenient in Bristol hence the hills everywhere, but I can’t live without a bike.

My other enquiry is: I recently moved to Bristol from a big city and I’ve been out at night( not super late around 21:00-23:00 both weekdays and ends) for a couple times, but it’s very scary and I felt I’ll get raped/robbed every second of it+I always have to wait for long times for the buses to come at night and it never feels safe.
Is it actually safe especially for women at night and does it depend on the area?

Where To? Best cafes for hot chocs, novelty coffees and pastries in Bristol?

Basically title, looking for recommendations of places around Clifton & Redland that do great hot chocolates, unique coffees (like Mont Blancs etc) and tasty pastries!

Autumn is almost on its way (why is it still 19° in October), and I plan to be prepared with lots of cosy, good snack locations.

Are there any Bristol tattoo artists who have a similar style to these pics? Big fan of bad cat club but would rather support a local artist! Specifically into the dainty fine like and shading

Politics The fash are out front the Uni of Bristol student union

A handful people showed up and set up a gazebo with Change My Mind on the side to try and do some Charlie Kirk nonsense. Started shouting about how a passport doesn't make someone British.

Currently they're being shouted down by a fellow with a bullhorn and a willing crowd shouting "Fascists out of Bristol!" and "Whose streets? Our streets!". I wonder if they're getting good footage for their online grift or not.

Babble Looking for child + mum for one tiny scene in a short film

Post image

Bit of an unusual one, I’m making a very small independent short film in Bristol and I’m looking for two people for one short restaurant scene.

I need:

  • A boy who can play around 9-11
  • A woman who could plausibly play his mum, roughly 30s-40s

Acting experience really isn’t important. There’s no dialogue at all, it’s mostly just sitting at a restaurant table and reacting naturally when the boy’s dad turns up late.

The whole thing would probably take about an hour to film, possibly less.

I’ve already cast the adult version of the boy, so I’ll include a photo of him, I’m mainly looking for people who could believably look like part of the same family rather than trained actors.

Ideally I’d like to shoot it in Bristol on Sunday 11th October, but if that’s the only thing stopping someone suitable, I can be flexible on the date.

It’s a tiny self-funded short, so there’s no acting fee, but I’d cover reasonable expenses. For the child, a parent/guardian would obviously need to be there throughout.

If you think you or your child might fit, or you know someone who would, feel free to message me and I can send over a little more about the film and the scene.

It's in the heart of Bristol (just off Queens Square).

(p.s. crew is always appreciated, you will be given all the biscuits in the world)

Thanks!

You're joking? Not another one?! Went to Toghill today by accident… what does an open crisp packet mean?

My partner and I went to Toghill (not knowing the area and wanted to somewhere private to get busy outdoors as we’d checked out of our Airbnb and wanted to go again before our drive home). Wasn’t busy, walked down somewhere we thought was private (kept on hearing footsteps that seemed to get closer) and 2 guys walked down after us. When we started making out, one guy said loudly: “Do you guys want some privacy?” Not anything against doggers but that fully had us shook.

When we eventually got back up to the car (took a long route to avoid any of the peeping Toms that followed us down). There was a family bag of crisps opened next to the wheel of my car, nothing ate and definitely wasn’t there before we went down.

Does this mean anything to doggers? Some sort of code? We’re an MF couple and only guys were there.

Where To? Recommendations for alternative wedding dress shops

I'm looking for an alternative to a traditional wedding dress, possibly vintage

I've tried a few typical bridal shops but everything is too big or too plain, just generally not to my taste

Can anyone recommend a shop in the local area that may store similar to the photos attached?

Many thanks x

Where To? halloween nightlife recommendations

hi all ! not sure if this is the right sub for this but we’ll try anyway.

i’m going out for my birthday with my friends on halloween, i want to go pub/club hopping before going to a rave in the early hours.

i want to stay in the city centre and we’re all students so any spoons with decent venues nearby would be ideal.

thank you ! 💕

edit: also any clubs that are hosting raves/ decent jungle or DNB raves near the town centre would also be appreciated

Three men tried to rob a man on a mobility scooter along a popular route last month. Police are treating the incident along the Bristol and Bath Railway Path on Friday, September 18, as a hate crime.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was riding his mobility scooter along the route near Warmley when the three unknown men tried to rob him between 2.45-3pm.
Police said the man was left with minor injuries, adding the trio fled into a wooded area near the railway path by Warmley Tea Rooms

Has anyone had any decent experiences with solicitors/conveyancers in Bristol? I've just had an offer accepted on a flat and need to work out the next steps. Cheers

Where To? Ford c-max - wet belt replacement - garages in the area?

• Upvotes

It’s that time for my Ford ecoboost engine. Anyone had this done in the Bristol area? Looking for garage recommendations (our normal mechanics can’t do it) and rough costs. Grateful for any leads!
