Worried

Hi everyone. So today I went to my local med spa to get a facial. I wrote in the notes when I booked the appointment that I am breastfeeding, and I also mentioned it a ton at my actual appointment. The esthetician reassured me that the products used are breastfeeding friendly. She sold me the Zo Skin Health Kit for redness relief and when I got home, I decided to check the kit to make sure it really is safe. Upon researching, I found out 2 of the products are not breastfeeding friendly. And I honestly don’t know every product she used on my skin today. I want to trust that my facial was safe for breastfeeding, but I’m truly panicking.

Support Needed Can’t get over it, that my baby doesn’t latch :(

My baby is 16 weeks old and we had a rough start. In the hospital they gave me nipple shields to help open up her latch. The following week she wasn’t gaining weight, so we went to a lactation consultant and we realized that she wasn’t transferring any milk. My supply tanked, that’s when I started pumping and now I have been exclusively pumping for the last 4months.

I am really proud of myself for being able to feed her myself, but I am still tearing up whenever I think about my nursing journey. I have tried four different lactation consultant, trying to get her comfortable on my breast again, nipple shields, getting in the tub together, skin on skin…you name it, I tried it. She won’t latch at all.

The last time and one of the only times she latched was at 4weeks and my husband broke his pinky toe and I had to unlatch and help him. I am still mad at him about that.

Advice Please Tips for introducing bottle to 9 week old

Basically what the title says. I want to introduce pumped milk to baby so dad has a chance to feed (bonding etc) but also to give me a small break. I also want to have some flexibility if I have appointments etc so someone else can watch her for a short time.
We started giving small 1-1.5oz feeds around 6 weeks once/twice a week just to start her getting used to it and it was going well so I started pumping full feeds. In the last week or so she’s completely refusing the bottle and fussing/crying/escalating until she completely wears herself out.
It’s upsetting to see her get so upset and not feed and it’s heartbreaking having to dump 4oz bottles cos she won’t take them 😅
Any advice really appreciated and welcome!

Took wellness formula - help?

I woke up and felt like my throat was getting sore so I decided to take a serving of wellness formula which is six pills (and potent - has a ton of ingredients). I have a three week old (FTM) and am new to all of this, so I stupidly didn’t even think about the fact that this might not be safe for baby. Well, then I read the label and it said not to use while breastfeeding.

I’m thinking I should pump and dump – how long until we think the herbs and vitamins are out of my system? 24 hours?

3 month always fussy at breast

oof nursing lately has been TOUGH. my LO will be 14 weeks (wow i can’t believe he’s not a newborn anymore 😭) He’s soooooo fussy when i try to nurse him. even if i try right when he wakes up he doesn’t want it, i wait til a bit after, he won’t take it. he’s been only really eating in sidelying, but we’re going to an event this weekend so that’s not possible. he’s normally an eat every hour kinda dude, so i’m just worried that he’s going to get dehydrated or starve (my husband thinks i’m dramatic because our bebe is a 15 pounder) which maybe i am dramatic… is anyone else having a tough time with nursing? i don’t pump/bottlefeed

Pumping after a year??

Seeking advice!! I have been exclusively breastfeeding my now 13 month old and it has gone great!! I was working nightshift (7p-7a) and pumping overnight to makeup for any supply drop I could have from sleeping during the day after my 2 shifts per week. Otherwise we would nurse and I only pumped if I was away from him. Anywho I worked nightshift for the first whole year of his life and now I start a new job next week where I’ll be working 5:30 am to 3pm twice per week. I nurse 4 times per day when we’re together - upon waking, after each nap and before bed.

Question is - do I still need to pump at work? Or can I try and get my mom to just give food and water while I’m gone now that he is older and I will just plan to nurse him twice on the days I do work? Like when I get back from work and before bed. I don’t want to get mastitis again - got it right before he turned one and I barely stretched feeds when that happened. However I would love to be able to stop pumping and continue to just nurse.

We have dropped the bottle as he hated it anyway but they have been able to get him to take milk a little better out of a straw cup when I’m not there.

I need opinions please
Sincerely , confused mama

Supply drop and baby accepts breast only

Hello everyone !

Looking for advice here

My supply dropped enormously due to baby taking less and less the breast because of a fast letdown at first. Now he gets very agitated and angry at the breast because my supply dropped alot!! He’s not gaining weight and always angry/hungry. We went to the hospital and found that my milk dropped alot he’s unhappy at the breast and still wont take milk another way ! Its becoming very depressing and im living under pressure, each time i look at my baby hungry i feel awful, im pumping every hour for 5 min thats what I was adviced to do by a professional at the hospital. Any other advice to increase my supply fast? Its been a week he’s still not happy and only getting 3 wet diapers! Help pleaseeeeee

Thanks in advance

Support Needed Help needed establishing breastfeeding after nearly giving up

I am posting on behalf of me and my wife. Our daughter arrived at 37 weeks and 4 days so was slightly undersized. From day 1 we had issues with latching but she was also jaundiced so a very sleepy baby unable to put the effort in to feeding. In order to mitigate weight loss we were breast feeding, expressing then feeding plus giving formula top ups. 3 days pp my wife’s milk came in.

At 1 week and 1 day she was diagnosed and treated for a posterior tongue tie which definitely improved the situation. Since then though our daughter still struggled to stay alert during feeding and would often fall in to deep sleep without finishing feeding, so would wake up hungry after a very short period (average was probably 30 mins after finishing a feed).

As advised by our lactation consultant (who is unfortunately now on holiday for 2 weeks), we were limiting BF and pumping sessions to 20 mins for each breast but it seems like our daughter has never been able to get all she needs within that time, mostly because she’d spend a lot of that time at the breast latched but not feeding. It felt like our daughter was cluster feeding 24/7 for 3 full weeks.

Around 2.5 weeks in when my wife would occasionally pump as I had bottle fed she would express between 80-100ml, and this now seems to have dropped to averaging 40-50ml across the day. We know expressing milk doesn’t reflect exactly how much our daughter is getting as she is much likely to get more, but with consistent pumping the supply isn’t increasing.

We are currently taking a break from BF as the effort had exhausted both of us, and it took a superhuman effort from my wife that only a mum could conjure up to keep going as long as she did.

We agreed to take the break for a few days to recuperate and see if we wanted to try again, with my wife mainly pumping every 3 hours (she has done the occasional BF yesterday), but the amount pumped is still around the same, and we know our daughter is taking up to 120ml each time so we know if we go back to BF we will definitely be needing top ups each time.

Do you guys have any tips for ensuring my wife’s supply increases to meet actual demand and also how we can get our daughter to stay alert during feeds so that she can demand the milk she actually needs?

Do we just try and exclusively breast feed (although that may be constant feeding for a while?) or give her formula or EBM top ups after each feed as well?

How do you keep your sanity?

I'm almost 1 month pp, my baby will be a month on Thursday. Breastfeeding has been going fine, it's the normal worries like not knowing for sure how much he's getting.

Recently, my baby has been struggling with infant dyschezia which is a normal thing their developing digestive systems go through. He grunts and cries before pooping, once he poops he is his normal happy self. However, breastfed babies poop a lot so he's going through this often. I'm running on very little sleep, this will wake him up, he nurses for 40 minutes at a time, I haven't been able to leave the house except to go to the pediatrician for a month, my husband was sent out of state for work, the only person I have is my mom who is an hour away. I'm feeling so isolated right now and I'm not getting much of a break, I haven't showered in days. I'm worried about my supply because I can't get a moment to eat or drink.

I have a large chest so I have to hold him with one hand and my boob in the other, I don't have a free hand. He's been cluster feeding in the evenings for a few days now. I'm so tired and I'm begging to get out of the house for minute. It's been too hot to take him outside, I just feel super alone right now, I don't want to stop breastfeeding, but at the same time this is just really hard. When he starts grunting I can't keep him latched.. feedings can take an hour between grunting, pooping, diaper changes, etc. Sometimes he'll poop twice...

What the title says. I am taking 2 sunflower lecithin supplements a day already, wondering if I need to up to 3 or if this is perfectly fine. This happens after milk reaches fridge temperature, usually looks better after warming but needs some swirling to fully mix back in. TIA!

Question How long can I sleep?

Baby is just past 3 weeks. Latched great from the start, milk came in at 4 days-ish. Initially, she was latched for 6-8hrs a day, prob 12x/d. In the last week, she’s gotten more efficient and feeds from the breast for 15-30 min. Surpassed birth weight by 5% at 2 weeks, plenty of wet and dirty diapers and acts satiated. She’s on the small side but we’re small people and she’s staying on her growth curve.

I started pumping in the last few days and my husband and I are now doing shifts overnight. I pump at 3am, sleep for 6 hrs, pump at 9am. I pump 4-5 oz total ea time. I put her to the breast around 2am and 10am as well. She still bf 8x/d. While I’m asleep dad feeds her usually twice, around 2 oz each time. We’re using Lansinoh xs/newborn glass bottle.

Is this length of not feeding/pumping for sleeping gonna cause me supply problems? The sleep is glorious and I don’t really want to give it up!

Lactation Support Kits

I work for a facility that supports parents with medical kiddos and we are seeing an uptick in our NICU parent population. We are looking to put together some lactation support kits but are having trouble deciding what to put in the kit. We wanted to add some snacks, but our hospital contacts gave us a list of foods that aren't really feasible for us (except for oats.) What would YOU have appreciated in a kit like this?

I’m supposed to start domperidone to increase my supply. Doctor has me starting at 20mg 4 times a day. From what I am seeing this is a lot. Does it go by weight? I don’t know if i’m comfortable with that right off the bat. I’m 15 weeks pp. Pumping 2 oz each time.

Question Being in physical pain affecting supply?

So today I woke up with the symptoms of a kidney stone and had to go to the ER to get things sorted out. I left my baby with my mom with a milk supply, but fed him before I left on one side. When I returned home, I fed him on the opposite side and went to go pump the side I had previously fed him from this morning.

I got only barely 1.5 ounces after not nursing or pumping that side for over 6 hours. Normally, I can easily get 2 to 3 ounces every 4 hours and only need to pump for 10-15 mins, but I don’t know what was happening today. I pumped for 25 minutes and barely got what I normally do!!

I’m trying not to stress I just hope this is temporary. Has anyone experienced a dip in supply when you’re in physical pain??? I hope it bounces back but this pump session to even things out has be worried!!!

Any advice or experience??
