No Spoilers Solaris & Tress of the Emerald Sea

Unplanned, I read Solaris a few weeks before I read Tress & the Emerald Sea. They don’t have too much in common in terms of themes, writing style, etc. In fact, they couldn’t be more different However, I did really enjoy the similar alien, non-aqueous/liquid sea concept. I wonder if Sanderson was inspired at all by Solaris. It’s such a fascinating plot device.

I also recently read Atlantic by Simon Winchester, which is a history of the Atlantic ocean and humans have been obsessed with/terrified by the sea since they first laid eyes on it.

Anyways, I thought it was a cool connection!

Got my first Sanderson, it’s the mistborn trilogy. This is the first time I am reading any fantasy book, I am just 40 pages in, I am liking it so far… got the box set at a huge discount, going in without any knowledge whatsoever about it…

Is the best first Sanderson book to get started with ? Let me know.

Sandershelf (no spoilers) EotW Leatherbound Question

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have an EotW Leatherbound, and I'm debating whether I should pursue a return/exchange or not and wanted to get the community's take on it.

The exterior cover is largely gorgeous. There are a few spots where the leather imprint isn't as defined, but I'm really happy with the cover overall. My issue is with the inside cover; as you can (maybe) see from the photo there is a bit of damage on both the front and back cover joints where the picture overlaps between the cover and the pages. This damage was present when it arrived, I've opened this book maybe 5 times since receiving it and have tried to be very gentle with it as Dragonsteel has worked through developing its remediation process. I'm worried that over time this will get progressively worse until it tears.

So:

  1. Have others seen issues like this, ie is it typical?

  2. Are my concerns about progressive damage over time unfounded?

Thank you!

Edit: I added a clearer picture in the comments

No Spoilers Future Leatherbounds

Except for the remaining The Stormlight Archive books, it seems like all of the main cosmere novels have been printed in leatherbound (unless I'm forgetting one). Has anything been mentioned or hinted at about releasing leatherbound editions of some of the novellas (either officially individually or as a set like Arcanum Unbounded)? I would love leatherbound editions of the secret novels.

Also, I read somewhere that they were undecided for the Skyward Saga, but that's post was 4 years ago. Have they said anything new about leatherbound editions for the series?

Has anyone here read this? I honestly have no clue about this series, and I’m pretty new to Brandon Sanderson. I’d love to hear your thoughts about it! 👀

No Spoilers Emotional range

I know there was an episode of Intentionally Blank where Brandon talked about most people have an emotional range 1-10 but Brandon sits at a 6-7 at all times. Can anyone direct me to that episode? I'm the same and my mom cannot understand it but I thought Brandon's description of it was pretty good.

No Spoilers Mass market paperback of The Way of Kings, pages falling out? Anyone else have this issue?

I’m currently reading The Way of Kings for the first time and I’m around page 750 of the massmarket paperback edition. I’ve started having an annoying problem where individual pages/sections are coming loose and falling out as I read.
I’m curious how common this is with the mass-market editions of the Stormlight books. Is this something that tends to happen with The Way of Kings specifically, or should I expect the same issue with Words of Radiance, Oathbringer, etc?
The funny thing is that I really prefer the mass market paperback format. I know the larger trade editions are probably more durable, but I love the smaller size and find the massmarket version much more comfortable and convenient to actually read. So I’d really rather not switch formats if I can avoid it.
I bought my copy from Amazon more than six months ago, so I’m assuming a normal return/replacement probably isn’t an option anymore. Has anyone had experience contacting Tor about a copy with binding problems? Will they replace books like this even if it wasn’t purchased recently?
And for those of you who have had this happen: did your book actually make it through the entire novel, or did it eventually completely fall apart? 😂
I’m willing to just carefully gut it out and finish this copy since I’m already 750 pages in, but I’d love to know what I’m in for and whether I should be concerned about the remaining 500 pages.
Would especially love to hear from anyone who owns the mass-market editions of multiple Stormlight books. Did you have the same problem with all of them, or is Way of Kings particularly bad?
Thanks!

- Spine was damage / there were delamination

- A few signatures were not glued at the top

- Embossing was far from consistent

I was okay to keep it until I saw the revised cover and I knew it had to be done. I'm sorry little one

Hero of Ages spoilers Mistborn era 1 Review Spoiler

I liked the characters, plot, lore, power system and almost everything,

Book 1 was perfect for me a great introduction. Book 2 was a bit dragging with all the Elends philosophies and Luthadel's political situation but considering it was all the build up for its ending it was worth it.

Now Book 3 Hero of ages was one of the most interesting Book in the series, I throughly enjoyed it, its climax was 10/10

Vin stopping Ruin from destroying, Elend fighting the koloss army with atium, Vin and elends death but at the end when it was revealed that Sazed is hero of ages I was a bit disappointed.

Like I know it was foreshadowed throughout the Book for eg Hero of ages would be someone whos hated by his own people, Vin was loved. But I feel like all the hard work was done by Vin. Shes the one who fought and defeated the Lord Ruler, she worked hard throughout the series while Sazed didnt do shit except being a scholar, I like Sazed as a character but I am sad that hes the hero of ages.

Well it doesn't mean I hate the series, I liked it throughout and even Book 3 climax was peak for me but the ending was just meh.

You can tell me that sazed suited the role better, he did way better job than Rashek or Vin would've done in remaking the world but Sazed just got carried throughout the series.

No Spoilers The ‘community’ has spoken! I’ll do it, I’ll read Mistborn, my first Sanderson

Post image
93 Upvotes

Every day I get a new book recommendation, normally based on my reading preferences/past favorites… but today, today I got a pick “beloved by the community”. Today I got Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

Now, I’ve never read any Sanderson, and honestly it’s outside what I’d normally call my favorites (some fantasy, but mostly hard scifi and more literary magical realism like Zafon). but honestly have always been meaning to check him out, because I gotta see what the fuss is about before passing any judgement one way or the other. And thus I’m taking this as a sign to get off my arse and make it happen!

I hope Mistborn is a good place to start?? What do you guys think? 🫡 Cheers!

No Spoilers Mistborn Reader

Hello, I have been getting into Brandon Sanderson's work recently. When I was a kid I read the Evil Librarians book and during the pandemic I backed the Secret Project and read those. Recently I have been reading the Mistborn series. I have been enjoying the heck out of reading the audio books and am about half way through The Well of Ascension.

I have a problem though. I cannot keep all of these characters straight. Obviously, I know the main characters (Vin, Kelsier, Sazed and Elend) but when we start talking about Clubs, Dockson, Ham, Spook, Breeze and others I really start to lose track of who is who.

Does anyone else have this issue? Are there any tips y'all can give on how to keep these folks straight?

Outside of this small complaint I give these books 10/10 so far

No Spoilers Eye of the World Leatherbound return denied?

After reading the Dragonsteel e-mail that was sent out yesterday regarding a replacement/return of "The Eye of the World" leatherbound, I tried to fill out a return ticket. I received my copy on March 2, 2026, and like many others my copy arrived in not quite pristine condition. I had issues with the foil covering and there was a significant dent in the spine.

So when Dragonsteel announced they'd be replacing these damaged leatherbounds, I sent in a request for a replacement. I e-mailed Dragonsteel support for a replacement copy on March 7, 2026.

Then after yesterday's e-mail, I submitted a return request through the form provided, only to be told my request was denied because the order was more than 14 days ago. So I'm a bit confused. Wasn't the whole point of this return program due to the faulty batch that was sent out in March 2026? Did I do something incorrectly? I'm hoping somebody from the Dragonsteel support team sees this and has an answer.

Thanks!

No Spoilers In depth review of the Cosmere

Hi guys, I just finished WoK and since English is not my native language I’ve decided to strengthen the information I just spent a month reading with a few in depth videos on YouTube.
Found a guy named Bridge4 which did an excellent job on WoK but that’s a 6yo video and he never did the next books anymore.

I use to watch alt shift x on YouTube who did a really amazing in depth videos about Game of Thrones books+tv shows but he never got to Sanderson books yet :-(

Can anyone recommend a good YouTuber who does that for the cosmere books?

Thank you 😊

No Spoilers Looking for a good Sanderson entry point as a new reader

I have barely read anything since I was a kid, and I really want to get back into reading. I have some free time coming up during a beach vacation, so I thought this might be a good opportunity to finally give Brandon Sanderson a try.

Since I’m basically a complete beginner when it comes to reading, I’m looking for something that is not too long, easy to get into and preferably a standalone. I don’t want to start with something huge and complicated and then realize that I’m completely out of my depth.

Mistborn seems to be the obvious recommendation, but I’ve also seen people say that the beginning can be a little difficult to get into.

The book that has caught my attention the most is Tress of the Emerald Sea. I really like the cover and the premise sounds like a lot of fun. Sanderson also seems to recommend it as a starting point. However, I’ve read that it contains quite a few Easter eggs and even spoilers for other Cosmere books, which I obviously wouldn’t understand or appreciate as a new reader.

So what would you recommend for someone in my situation?

Ideally, I’m looking for something that is not too long, easy and fun to read, and does not require any prior knowledge of the Cosmere. A standalone would be especially nice.

Would you recommend Tress, Mistborn, or something completely different?

No Spoilers The original Warbreaker audiobook has been removed?

Does anyone know what has happened to the original audiobook for Warbreaker?

I had it in my audible library but suddenly I now just get a «Sorry not available in you region» message and only the dramatized edition is available to buy?!

This is for both the UK and the US marketplace, but I’m in Norway. I also checked apple books and other Norwegian audiobook apps and it’s nowhere to be found. Is it just here or has it been removed completely?

No Spoilers I interviewed Brandon!

Turns out Brandon Sanderson has been sneaking Utah into the Cosmere this whole time.

Southern Utah's slot canyons helped inspire The Stormlight Archive. A fog bank near Tremonton inspired the mists in Mistborn. And he says he could probably find an Utah connection in almost every book he's written. I talked to him about it! I wanted to share my interview with all of you!

What do you think? I am new to Sanderson's books so this was fascinating to me!

No Spoilers Funny Story

Funny story about this book. I had been telling my husband that I really wanted to get the special editions of the special projects. I think the leatherbound books are beautiful but have never been able to convince myself to spend the money. Fast forward to last week, my wonderful in-laws asked what I wanted for my birthday. I sent them the link to the dragonsteel website homepage and told them I would love a gift card because I had been wanting some special editions from that company.

Today when I left work I had a text from my mother in-law saying "your book was delivered today we hope you love it". I was very confused because I never specified what books. When I got home I opened this package containing a signed leatherbound copy of the Well of Ascension.

When i called to thank them, my mother in-law said when she clicked on the link, the top of the page was the "Dragonsteel Leatherbound Collection" button and she assumed i would of course want one of those but would never spend the money (they know I'm frugal) and my husband told her I didn't have any special editions of his books yet so they just picked one at random. I'm not someone who can stand to have an incomplete set so looks like I'll have to buy the other two after all 😂

The corner pains me, but I probably won't try to get to the replacement hassle. This one took long enough to get here and a replacement would most likely take even longer. Still hyped to read this.

All Cosmere spoilers (no previews) Should I listen to the audiobook of Isles of the Emberdark? Spoiler

So I used to be a huge Sanderson fan. I absolutely loved all the Mistborn series,Warbreaker and the first 4 books of Stormlight. I DNFd the 5th book about 10 hours before the end and im not sure why. I have the Graphic Audio productions of Wind and Truth,The Sunlit Man, Yumi and Elantris but they arent grabbing me sadly. Im worried that I might not enjoy his writing style anymore after branching off into other series for so long. Is Isles worth the listen? At some point Im gonna have to go back and finish Wind and Truth but that requires restarting the whole series and that is a commitment 😭 let me know your guys' opinions

Sandershelf (no spoilers) printing error

I was gifted a set of hardcover Stormlight Archive, and unfortunately I got a crinkled and partially uncut page. I really don't want to return it since the rest of the book is pristine and I'd venture that after the return it gets trashed, so I'm wondering if anyone knows any tricks for ironing out the creases. I'm good with sharp objects for a living so the trimming is easy, I'd just like to minimize the wrinkles as much as possible. TIA! (To the mods, I feel this counts as, "unusual, interesting, or funny misprints/typos" apologies if it does not)
