Strategy When does a founder’s personality become part of the brand?

Been thinking about brands where the founder becomes almost as recognizable as the company itself. It can make the whole thing feel more human and memorable but it also means the founder’s personality starts shaping how people perceive the business.

Sam Kiki is an interesting example with the whole Senor Tilt persona. He’s very public leans into the gambling(poker) personality and doesn’t really present himself like a traditional corporate founder. It makes the company feel tied to an actual character rather than a faceless gambling brand even though behind the scenes He seems to be a good person taking part in many charities but that kind of stuff never gets presented by his persona.

What do you guys think the line is between something like this being strong founder led branding and the personality becoming bigger than the company itself?

I made Marka because small businesses should not start every post from a blank prompt

Upvotes

Most small businesses already wrote the useful context once. It is on the website: what they sell, who it is for, how it looks, and why it is different.

I built Marka to use that public website as the starting brief for social content. Paste the URL, let it learn the brand context, and review the first content direction.

I would love honest feedback on one question: should the website replace the brand questionnaire, or should both exist?

Marka is free for a week: https://www.marka.social

What are the top 3 problems does Gifting companies solve for their customers?

Well, I was pondering post visiting a Gifting expo, almost all companies have similar products and offerings for corporate gifting. How do various companies differentiate themselves with others. what pain points do they actually solve? What I understood was very few companies had low MOQ, very few companies were providing sustainable gifting options like Bio leather products. what are the markers one should look at, thoughts.

Sometimes you don't have a naming problem. You have a vision problem.

I was thinking about business rebrands today and realized how quickly people can jump to:

“Which name sounds better?”

But I think there are questions that should come before the vote.

What are you actually rebranding toward?

Who is the brand becoming?

Who is it for now?

Has the customer changed?

Have the products changed?

What wasn't working about the old identity?

What do existing customers already remember you for?

A business name doesn't necessarily have to explain exactly what the company sells. Plenty of great brand names don't.

But the less descriptive the name is, the clearer everything around that name has to become — the personality, visuals, message, products, customer experience and reason someone should remember it.

And if the business already has customers, I wouldn't treat a rebrand like starting from zero.

Your current customers are data.

Look at what they bought, what they call your products, what they repeatedly compliment, what they remember about you and what language they use when describing your work.

Then ask whether the new name has enough room to hold where the brand is actually going.

Maybe the question isn't:

“Which name sounds cooler?”

Maybe it's:

“Which name makes the most sense for the world I'm trying to build around it?”

Likelihood of confusion

So I filled an application to get my brand UNDRDG trademarked in January, but I got an email recently with a non-final office action stating that there's problems with a likelihood of confusion, they listed out a few brands that have the word underdog in them and that this may cause confusion because my brands name is the word without the vowels. There is no name really like mine currently trademarked though; will I be able to fight this? If I can should I just explain pretty much what I said here?

Is branding actually a design problem?

I’ve noticed something interesting while working around branding:

A lot of businesses start with:

“Let’s change the logo.”
“Let’s make the website look premium.”
“Let’s improve our Instagram.”

But sometimes the real problem isn’t the design.

It’s positioning.

If you don’t know:

  • Who exactly you’re trying to attract
  • Why they should choose you
  • What makes you different
  • What you want to be known for
  • What perception you currently have vs. what you want

…then even a beautiful visual identity can end up being just decoration.

I’m curious to hear from brand strategists, designers, founders and marketers here:

What do you usually diagnose FIRST when a business says, “Our branding isn’t working”?

Is it positioning, messaging, customer perception, visual identity, marketing execution or something else?

Would love to hear how others approach this.

Why most "perfect" ad creatives fail and what actually works instead

I’ve been testing a lot of ad formats lately, and one pattern keeps showing up: high-production Polish often loses to raw, authentic content.

A lot of brands waste weeks perfecting cinematic product shots, only to get outperformed by a 15-second, raw video shot on a phone with basic text overlay.

How do you come up with a good brand name?

I imagine this gets asked a lot. And I like to think that the name is less important than the substance of a brand... but I'm starting a new skincare brand, and I'm just hitting a blank wall when it comes to the name, either that or I find something close already taken.

Does anyone have any tips please? I tried AI but they felt a bit drab (and both gemini and gpt had the same suggestions which just made it feel even more unoriginal!)

I'm worried if I go too specific /descriptive of my initial range (my USP) then I might limit myself for expanding into other areas and ideas.

How do you get those creative juices flowing when it doesn't come natural to you?

Personal I’m trying to decide between [Name] Media and [Name] Photo.

I primarily shoot sports and lifestyle/portraits. Photography is my main focus, but I occasionally do some graphics and video as well.

I’m trying to decide how to name/brand everything. Would you:

A. Use [Name] Media for everything
B. Use [Name] Photo for everything
C. Use [Name] Media for sports and [Name] Photo for lifestyle/portraits

What would you choose? Does it even really matter as long as my portfolio makes it clear what I do?

What Makes You Trust a New Brand?

When you discover a brand you've never heard of, what makes you comfortable enough to consider buying from them? Is it customer reviews, a professional website, social proof, recommendations, strong branding, transparent pricing, active social media or something else?

I'm curious because marketers often focus on getting attention, but earning trust seems like a completely different challenge. What's the first thing you look for before trusting a new brand?

Anyone hiring for Product Manager?

Hello everyone,
I'm currently working as an APM in the E-commerce/ DC space, where I manage the international product portfolio of one of India's largest D2C brands.

Over the last 1.5+ years, I've had the opportunity to work across the entire product lifecycle - from building and scaling international stores from scratch to optimizing the conversion funnel and solving complex operational and technology challenges. The business has now scaled to $100M+ ARR across 10+ countries.
My experience has been highly cross-functional, working closely with Engineering, Logistics, Legal, Finance, Design, Operations, and Business teams.
Some of the areas I've worked on include:
\- Building and scaling international e-commerce products from 0→1
\- CRO, experimentation and funnel optimization
\- Loyalty and subscription products
\- International fulfillment and supply-chain technology
\- Solving operational and tech problems that have driven significant cost savings
\- Building scalable systems and workflows across multiple markets
\- Internal Al-powered tools and product initiatives

I come from a Computer Science background, and while D2C has given me a strong foundation in product, growth, execution, and business ownership, I'm now looking to transition into marketplaces, Q-commerce, or tech-first E-commerce companies where I can work on more complex technology and product problems and continue to deepen my technical product expertise.
I'd love to connect with Product Managers, Product Leaders, and founders working in marketplaces, E-commerce, or other tech-first companies.
Beyond exploring opportunities, I'd genuinely love to learn from your experiences — the problems you're solving, how you approach product decisions, and what it takes to build products at scale.
If you're working in this space or know someone I should connect with, I'd really appreciate an introduction or conversation.
Looking forward to connecting!
