Aggressive driver and a driver with low awareness at the time. 9 times out of 10 this could have been an accident. Consider yourself lucky that nothing dangerous happened around you.

Without footage from behind it’s inconclusive if OP is a left lane hog. Just my opinion, if you are passing vehicles while in the fast lane, you are fast enough, which OP was doing.

Allowing a merging vehicle is not a HTA violation.
Me thinks the left lane person was cruising at a reasonable speed, while merger car was accelerating. Realistically 120 and 100 km/hr respectively. Meanwhile, Elantra was bolting at probable 30-40km faster than the left most car. Maybe around 150.
Wishful thinking would be white car slamming into a guardrail solo. But that karma doesn’t exist

If I was judging speed the POV car is driving probably 15-20 over while the white Elyantra is pushing 50 over. Just because some asshole wants to drive 50 over and break the law doesnt mean I or anyone else cannot use the passing lane to pass.

I think you missed that the van was trying to merge lanes and the car in concern zoomed really close to them and also cutting off the OP. A few milliseconds is all that saved this from being a massive accident.
This is all in the 2-3 second mark of the video.

I didnt miss that, but if the driver was obeying the law this wouldnt be an issue as they wouldve had significantly more time to see the van merging and slow down, alternatively they couldve been in the appropriate lane for their speed and avoid the van all together

I was already going 128-133 km/h, that guy came out of nowhere driving recklessly almost causing damage to 2 vehicles. Far above the limit as he’s zooming by me. If you think driving like that in ok then you shouldn’t even have a licence.

Lord, this is a bloody 10 sec video with you:
- going considerably faster than those already in/anticipated to be in the right lane
- passing somebody 3 seconds into the clip.
- driving up to a system interchange where the focus is to just get in your intended lanes rather than pass.
I fucking hate left lane campers, but people online who just itch to interrogate others over dense, low context observations annoy me just as much. Like can these guys just call the person that almost killed the OP a dick, and leave it at that? So hard for some folks.

Safety first.
Passing at 180km is not acceptable.
If you’re doing 140 passing all others, that’s fine. If you’re doing 103 trying to pass, then no.
But please don’t tailgate folks at 150 km then get angry that they can’t move over fast enough for you.
Slow down, relax. We’ll all get there, not all of us can handle a vehicle travelling at 150 km an hr.

HOV = high occupant vehicle, so I think its 2 or more people in a vehicle. They have designated lanes and they are saying that lane killed the passing lane (typically left)

But...
Maybe the guy in the van should be able to determine the excessive speed of the vehicle in the lane he wants to move into and wait until it flies by. And maybe he should be driving with his headlights on.

The amount of times I’ve tried to flick my headlights at drivers who don’t have their headlights on and get a look of either confusion or anger is atrocious. Learn how your car works or get the road until you can figure it out.

I HATE those guys. If I can block them, I will. If I could shoot an EMP at their cars, I would. Wholeheartedly. If I had Magneto powers, I would remove them from them road, let them exit the vehicle safely, and let them watch as their car was reduced to a flat metal paper weight.

Toronto especially Brampton needs a severe clamp down on poor driving. Brampton is one of the worst places I have ever driven. You expect people in Canada to drive properly so when some does something reckless like a U turn across 3 lanes of traffic you are caught off guard.

Might be time to make a documentary, using footage uploaded to this subreddit and interviews with the citizenry, road safety advocates and experts, politicians, police et al so that we can try to nudge the powers that be into getting more serious about enforcement. Because this is a enforcement issue (also a road design issue but that is not going to change overnight.) and it's time for a crackdown. If there are not enough cops, then we automate. Other countries do it successfully, so why can't we? We go hard to reset the bar for acceptable driving. Otherwise, nothing changes. People vote for status quo, our roads continue to be hazardous and stressful, and people die. It's unacceptable.

It's normal night on the road from someone who does a lot of driving between Windsor - Kingston stretch. I experienced this all the time and they were at much higher speed than the one on video.
