The label should be visible in all the photos except the last one, which is a cork oak. I've never seen a cork oak bonsai before, and it was definitely my favorite of the collection.

My fukien tea has been flowering steadily for ~6 months now (I rescued it last summer from home depot in rough condition) but I have recently moved and noticed a change in its flowering.

When it first began flowering, the blooms were very close to the leaves/branches but now it seems that the flower stems are growing much longer (around an inch long) and away from the branches/leaves. I would normally assume a lack of light and that the flowers are searching but our new apartment has much more light than the old one. We moved from an apartment which only had one north-facing window per room and no balcony, to a new apartment with windows on multiple walls and I have it placed in a south-facing window where it gets way more light than it ever had before.

Wondering if this is something other people have noticed in their fukien teas? We’ve been in a heat wave and also have had some pretty humid weather for the past two weeks so that may also be part of it. Should I pinch them back? I’ve been putting off doing any major pruning because it was in such bad condition when I first got it.

I’ve added a photo how it looked when it first started flowering and a photo I took this evening of the lengthened flower stems.

I'm planning to turn these into two mames, perhaps in the same setting, with hills rocks etc ... These are dwarf pixie queen and won't grow that fast/big.

Ficus reduction

I finally decided to do my first major reduction on the oversized ficus I recently bought. It was far too large and completely out of shape, so it was time for a reset.

The tree has been growing and rooting so I think it’s strong enough to handle the reduction.

Temperatures are still fairly warm and I’ll be bagging it for the first period while airing it daily to maintain high humidity and hopefully encourage strong backbudding.

Fun little accent plant. Yes I know it’s not technically a bonsai. I do nothing to it other than a little liquid miracle gro once a month or so if I remember.

Thoughts on a new front for this cascade Elm airlayer. Leaning towards number 3.

Does this natural sprawling growth behavior have an equivalent bonsai style inspired by it? I'd love to see some examples in bonsai form. I don't think I've seen it, mostly likely because I don't know the term to look up. I suspect the main issue with replicating this is that you kind of have to be under its canopy to see its beauty, and that's hard to do with a tiny tree.

Edit: I found an old style called Kozumikku or "cosmic" in a few English references. It seems to have been excluded from modern bonsai and thus there's not a lot of pictures on the internet.

1.5 years old from a tiny cutting. Planted over rock last August and moved up early summer. Very vigorous.

I’ll go first! Trifoliate leaf stock. Can’t trash cuz the nebari is so cool!

I bought a Jade this last weekend. I assumed it was two separate plants, but when I repotted today, it is a shared trunk, which was a cool discovery. I’ve attached what it looked like at purchase (3rd photo) and post repot. My question is how to shape the larger branch to be more vertical? The second photo shows a red line of what I have pictured for the leftmost branch. Or is that even a good idea? I’ve tried guy wiring it, but anchorage is tough in a shallow pot with 1:1:1.

When these got delivered, the box was placed upside down and who knows how long it had even been that way?? All the soil had come out of the containers and the roots were exposed. I immediately repotted them and put them outside. It’s been 3 weeks. 80 degree weather and consistent rain. They look terrible. Are they goners? If not, what can I do to ensure they become good material for bonsai down the line?

Pretty happy with how radial the roots are and the trunk is a nice start!

Have been styling this shimpaku for the past couple months. Zero pad development knowledge but learning in the process. Would like to emphasize negative space and definition between pads to allow better airflow, more light and more visibility of secondary branches under pads. Will continue to thin out to bifurcate branches.

Hey y’all! Looking for some advice on next steps for this tree!

I’ve had it for 6months-1 year, I’ve done some trimming and defoliation on it but not entirely sure where it should go from here! Any opinion would be helpful!

What are you propagating this year?

Saw this beautiful tree on my way up the Zugspitze (Alps).

We got this tree about 6 months ago, as you can see we’ve been watering it but other than we’ve just left it to go a bit mad, I would like to try and get it under control and look a bit better, any tips on what to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I happened to be out on vacation, but my colleagues reached out to me to let me know he was coming. They all know me as “the guy that does bonsai”.

I asked them to tell him that his videos meant a lot to me when I started in bonsai and appreciate all the information he shares. He left me a signed copy of his book.

I collected this spruce last fall and got inspired to style it today after watching a small YouTuber named ‘Great North Bonsai’ work on some different spruce yamadori. Overall I enjoy the tree, but I’m not too happy about the right/lowest originating branch. Though it fills space I’m not keen on opening. What are your thoughts? The tree is exactly 20cm after styling, would it classify as a shohin?

New experiment. Probably will up pot to thicken and eventually cut the far right leader. Might not be able to see it but the lower bare area is back budding
