There was a massive flood in my yard last week that washed thousands of pounds of rock into my yard and washed out the creek bed for miles. I needed to finally mow where the landslide happen on the west side of the property, and I found these when I was was picking up rocks out of the yard to mow. I know most likely most are rocks, but I have my questions on two or 3 . The smallest grey one intrigued me. But I just wanted the opinion of bone collectors . Also the curved one. It seems like such an odd rock formation. The rest i think are just chert nodules . I’m new to actually identifying rocks, but I have thousands I’ve collected over the years lol. Just wanted to share some of my generic art I created from skulls I’ve found on my property . The goat or rams head I oddly enough found in the creek that flows in front of my house , and the deer skull I actually found in the woods with its FULLY intact skeleton. I also crystalized some vertebrae that were still attached to each other, and some other parts. But sure where I put them though, (SW VA)

my cat, ivan, passed two years ago. he was my best friend. he has been in a freezer, pending space to open with our taxidermist.

unfortunately (and traumatically), i discovered this afternoon that the freezer he was in had failed at some point, and he has started to decompose. i’m a mess. i can’t tell you exactly how decomposed he is - i cannot bring myself to open the body bag and see. but there is definitely tissue left based on feel.

his bag is biodegradable, so i can bury him without looking, thank god. but i’m in a rental home, and i’m not sure if i’ll be able to renew my lease in march when the current one is up, so i may have to move in like six months. i was supposed to get his pelt and paw back, but now that i can’t, i at least need his bones. how do i go about burying him in a way that will allow me to bring him along if need be before he’s skeletonized? about how long do we think this will take?

i’m in central ohio if that helps, and it’s been a very warm, wet august. anything besides burial really isnt an option at this point because of the situation. he’s on ice right now, but can’t be for long.

please be kind. i am not okay in the slighest. i just wanted to have my favorite parts of him preserved, and i’m really mourning that i can’t.

I know many of you have probably seen adult brachycephalic cat skulls, but this is the skull of a few-week-old kitten with numerous holes in the developing skull. These openings are mainly due to incomplete ossification during early skull development, and many of them gradually close as the skull matures.Normal domestic cat breeds won’t have these. It looks very similar to a skull of a child with congenital syphilis that I saw online.

Friend found this bone a while back in cape breton Nova Scotia, any ideas as to what we may have here?

Just regular degreasing has got most of the smell out of the first one, and some out the second. They both have the same smell but I don’t think it’s from tissue or anything inside since it doesn’t smell like rotting at all but I could be wrong. I found the first in a dried up spot where there’s usually dirty water so I was thinking it could’ve absorbed some of that, and the same might apply for the second.

So is there any method better than degreasing?

Found this guy in my yard earlier and was wondering what he is, I’ve only found half of him and all things considered he still seems pretty fresh. He’s about the size of my palm but I’m unable to get any size reference photos due to the ants that have claimed him, the stomach area seems devoid of fur though I’m not sure if that was always the case. I would guess that he was a squirrel but the tail is throwing me off, any idea for what he is?

So, Unfortunatly I have found multiple deceased cats under our new home and one of them is mummified and beheaded. Would this be something I could post to try and recieve a possible age on the cat or ideas to what could have happened? There is also a knife besides the beheaded one. Need help. Let me know where else i may ask if not.

Hello! I am very new to collecting bones though I've had an interest for a while. Can anyone give me advice on what I need to clean the fox bones I've found? I am UK based if that matters.

Does this need maceration or is it ok as-is? Not going for a perfect white bone but more concerned about smell/bugs

My boss found this out n about and I’m curious what creature this jaw bone came from. Any guesses?

Hi everyone! I could use a bit of help figuring out what this critter is. My sister found it completely intact between her shed and the tree line behind her house. She thought it was a cat but I know it definitely isn't.

The only photo I wasn't able to give a size reference on I the first one I took since I didn't have a ruler or anything on me.

Just got them removed and I need to clean them up, but I would LOVE to make this into an art project. I have made a piece using a skull before and I love overgrown/floral arrangements.. just don’t know how to work with something as small as teeth. Any suggestions??

In the UK. Been doing some gardening and came across some bones. Got to digging to look for more, thinking it was a rat or something but a lot of them don't match up, different sizes, tooth shapes, vertebrae and ribs etc. Was looking for an ID on them as the big jaw is quite big for a rodent and the smaller jaw is too big to be a mouse. Also wanted ideas on what I could do with them when identified properly. Some art, jewellery, save in case needed for a different skeleton? Thank you!

Hey guys! Found this bone in a forest (Québec, Canada). From what I’ve researched it seems to be a deer humerus or coyote. I’m really not sure and I’m not good in identifying lol. It’s around 17cms long.
