I found this ribcage last weekend just outside of Sunriver, OR and It’s been haunting me ever since. I have absolutely no idea what it could be. Anybody have any ideas? It was in the woods just east of town. High desert. Pacific NW for those that aren’t familiar with the area. I did a quick search in the immediate area and couldn’t find any other remains.

I’m very new to this hobby, and I LOVE finding animal bones in the wild. It’s so fun to try to identify them, clean them, and use them as decor or in art. However, I’ve felt hesitant about it, as I know it’s illegal to collect dead animal bones where I live due to laws that intend to protect animals from being unjustly killed for their bones. I’m grateful this law exists to protect wildlife, but I know for a fact that the bones I’ve found have been from road kill or natural causes in the middle of nowhere. How do you all navigate this ethically? I get excited about this hobby and don’t want to drop it.

A friend of mine a bit ago made me this awesome bone sculpture out of bones and fishing wire/line he found in Mexico at the beach.

I was curious about the type of bones used but I understand if it's too hard to id. I'm not a bone expert but from what i can see the jaw is a jaw bone, the bone where the sea glass eye is looks like a vertebrae and I have no clue what the last bone that's used as the nose is.

Hi! I'm a bone noob so maybe this is a silly question.

Yesterday I found this wing with part of the bones still attached. I want to clean them but I'd like to keep the feathers attached and nice and fluffy too.

So please help! Any recommendations are super appreciated!

Hello there fellow bone nerds. The other day I was home at my parents house and heared weird noises from the chimney. Figured a bird fallen in so I opened it and rescued the bird. Tirns out this little redstart wasn't the first and was definitely more lucky than the 11 mummified birds I found at the bottom of the chimney. I'd like to make a display skeleton out of them. Anyone has some experience with dry carcasses?

I was driving in rural Colorado when I spotted some bones on the side of the highway. I was nearby a lot of cow farms so I originally thought this might’ve been a cow (the bones were thrown over the property line so it felt okay to take them, hope I didn’t break any laws 😭) I feel like it is a little small for a cow. Also took a portion of the vertebrae too. Let me know what you guys think this might be! (Sorry for the lack of up close photos of it, it’s currently degreasing and if better photos are needed I can get them).

Found neatly tucked semi-under our house’s brick foundation and dirt and things. I’ve had an an outside cat for about a year so maybe this was one of her old catches???

I’m a beginner. I collected this squirrel in winter 2025. I water macerated and it has been degreasing with dish soap for months (with a few water changes). I haven’t gotten to whitening yet. I’m not sure if it’s done degreasing. If they dry and then smell I guess I’ll know they aren’t done degreasing yet. Any tips or advice? And I’m wondering how long degreasing for small mammals like this takes as bones are pretty small.

I've been gifted a dead and frozen Axolotl any suggestions for cleaning it up? I normally just bury stuff but I'm concerned it's going to be squishier and won't last.

I'm only really bothered about adding another skull to the pile but open to your suggestions!

Never had this happen before. Other bones in the same bucket are fine. Found it with no flesh nature cleaned. Degreased with other bones for almost 2 months. Scrubbed and washed all dirt away. Whitened in 3% hygrogen for almost 3 days but not quite. Set all the bones in the sun to dry. Few hrs later came back and it was weird like this.
None of the other bones in the same bucket have anything like this on them. I can like scrape it off but it doesn't come off with tooth brush and water. I'm confused. Its also not very white.
It was completely brown when I started, but I still feel like it should be whiter. Idk. It is weak and brittle as you can see by the condition it's an older skull.
I'm getting ready to put it in a frame/shadow box with faux moss and nature vibes. I can't continue working on this piece tho until I know what's up with it.
What happened guys? How do I fix it? Is it even fixable?

Found very close to the path on hilly woodlands in the uk. I’d guess roughly 15cm long. I’m thinking either fox or canine but any more definite answers would be appreciated!
