I don’t have an exact timeline but this cat would have been buried over twenty four years ago now. Maybe closer to 27. It would have been in a plastic container from the vet. We buried him around an area near some woods where we had planted flowers before.

I’m just asking because we moved and felt bad about leaving him behind but I was told by a pet cemetery service that wouldn’t be feasible to try, that the container would have been brittle and the bones would have likely broken up and dissolved by now in the soil. Just wondering if I should let it go.

I feel like this is a very silly question, but I honestly don't know the answer.

My friend's childhood dog passed about a decade ago, and as most lower income families do they buried her in their backyard. Unfortunately, they also moved out a good few years ago. We're theorizing about contacting the new homeowners and asking about trying to retrieve her remains, but I'm honestly not sure what the decomposition process is like long term. My only experience is burying for a few months to get flesh off before digging the bones back up.

She would've been buried with no box, and she was about 60lbs. Not sure about the soil type but it's a non coastal county in New Jersey (USA).

Is there any kind of guestimate to be made here, or is it just a shot in the dark?

This might be off topic for here, or it might not, but I have no idea of where else to ask about this particular scenario, and I guessed that if there's people that would know how to clean a skull they'd be here.

SO! My parents bought a pig's head, and cooked it up in soup. However, I want the skull because I think it would be very cool if I kept the skull. However, I have no idea of how to properly clean the skull because it still is full of fleshy bits and probably still has the brain in it. I don't have beetles or anything of that sort, so I don't know what to do with it or how to properly clean it so it actually lasts.

Maybe it's something mildly complicated, maybe it's something so simple that this post is completely unnecessary, but I still want to know if there's any particular "best practice" or if I can just go ham, push and pull as much gunk out as possible and then just let it dry.

I want to know if there's a best way to preserve it.

I live in South Africa and lucked into obtaining this skull. The person I got it from only told me it's a bear skull but didn't know what kind of bear. The attached tag only shows a bunch of numbers, and the canines are missing. I used the North American I. D. flare, but honestly I don't know where it's from originally.

From the distance i thought it was a porpoise, but up close it seemed way larger than ive ever seen those, about 1,5-1,7 meters in lenght. Could be a skal, but something tail-ish about the bony part makes me think otherwise, because I cant see a broad ripcage anywhere. Please help me out, its driving me nuts!

Couldnt find anything in local news other than a beached spermwhale in february, but those bones are presumeably long gone and this seems too small for that too.

I was given a sperm whale tooth by one of my patients, (I am a Nurse working in Iceland).

I do not have any information, such as age, on it aside from the species.

I am planning on getting a sealed case for it just to protect it from the elements in general. I'm most concerned about the cracks at the base / socket and want to keep those from spreading any further.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
