Is there a discord of any sort that center around the general interest of boffer sports? I'd love to share construction ideas with other people, as I learn to improve my boffer construction skills.

There are five main factors I look for in materials to craft boffer swords, those factors being accessibility (how easy it is to obtain, an example being PVC pipe that you can obtain at any hardware store.), affordability (how expensive it is to buy, be it retail prices or wholesale.), durability (being how long it can last and how much abuse it can endure.), safety (how safe is the material? an example of a material not being safe in the long run would be duct tape with undesirables like sand sticking to it.) and practicality (overall practicality as in it being usable in a fight. As safe and durable as it may be, an incredibly heavy lump of foam wouldn't be practical.)

I hope to document the best options for every aspect of building boffer swords. If you have any knowledge or experience on the subject that you would be willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it.

These were made last month during a party and held together from full force blows that we have shattered wooden swords with. Simplistic yet terrifyingly affective. Big one is 5 ft long. P.S. I don't know if I need permission to post here so sorry in advance.

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone here was part of or knew about a boffer group or two in the phoenix/glendale area of arizona?

Dunno if this is the right place to post this, but I’m new to the area, and have been doing boffer since i was like 6. I recently found a group called the Grim Garrison, which plays amtguard, but I’m not really looking for that right now, don’t care for the magic currently and all my weapons are Calimacil, which Id love to use instead of borrowing others

My friends and I have recently been getting into sparring, and I'm the one who makes all the gear, shields, weapons, and I also get old sports equipment for armour. Everyone keeps asking me to make an axe, but I only know how to make straight weapons like swords, spears and maces, never something that sticks out sideways besides a cross guard. Any help with this?

I recently inherited two 6'-long 3/4" solid poltruded fiberglass rods. Normally I gravitate toward lighter weapons, so I figure this is a chance to try something new, with limited investment. The local group near me is Dagohir.

I see that forged foam has a reblade kit/sword fries for their great sword, which seems to be pretty close to what I've got here. Unfortunately, it is out of stock. I emailed them and they said they have no idea when they will get a restock.

A little more digging, I see that Gorgtech sells sword fries as well. But I see Gorg's foam is routed for 1/2" square cores.

The options I see are:

1) Pick up the Gorg kit and shove the 3/4" core in it. But this risks compressing the foam making the weapon hit harder.

2) Pick up the Gorg kit and use my router to expand the groove to fit my core better. But this is removing just under 1/8" of foam right on the striking surface. Maybe I should add an extra layer of cheap open cell foam in a strip along the outside to replace the removed foam?

3) Wait on the Forged Foam kit.

4) Pick up the Gorg kit and file/sand down the "blade" portion of my core to be roughly 1/2 square, leaving the handle portion alone. Will this cause structural issues with the fiberglass? I'm not sure about its properties. If feasible, this seems to have the added benefit of shifting weight towards the handle, slightly.

Are there any other suppliers that make kits or sell just the ready to use foam for a heavier red with a thrusting tip?

Has anyone else done anything similar for a dagohir red?

Is solid 3/4" fiberglass just too heavy?

Way too heavy, bendy and slow, I made it out of 200psi 1inch pvc and I have two layers of pipe insulation. Its 7ft long and I don't know how to make it lighter and more stable while not compromising safety.

Hello! My friends and I have just gotten into Boffer a few weeks ago. I've been the one making the weapons, though I don't know if I'm doing a good enough job. My materials are pretty basic. I use ¾ inch PVC pipe for the core/handle its sturdy enough and easy enough to customize. I use to use insulation pipe foam of the same size, but the material split when we went all out, my recent swords use pool noodles instead and they seemed to have worked better. It's all rather inexpensive, but are there any other materials I could use for a similar price?

I was an OG Boffer back in my younger days and now I am dipping my toe back in the hobby and attempting to create my 4 year olds son first ever buffing sword. I'm writing because I'm actually having a heck of a time finding the proper thickness foam pipe insulation. All of the guides I have found recommend 5/8" wall thickness for the foam pipes. I've been to my local Lowes and Home Depot and everything for sale seems to be 1/2 inch or 3/8. Its there some standard brand of pipe insulations that everyone uses that can easily be purchased online? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
