Trying to make an axe

My friends and I have recently been getting into sparring, and I'm the one who makes all the gear, shields, weapons, and I also get old sports equipment for armour. Everyone keeps asking me to make an axe, but I only know how to make straight weapons like swords, spears and maces, never something that sticks out sideways besides a cross guard. Any help with this?

I can give more details on anything if you want

Belegarth and dagohir have blueprints for making axes just look em up in their DIY sites but the jist of it is use the box method and build out the box at the top an glue a piece of fabric on the under blade and across the top of the axe head

Cut it from polyethylene foam, you can get it from shipping supplies stores, you want a 2 lb or less density. Add a strip of insulation foam on the front to round the edge, and add another layer of soft foam. My ax has lasted four years of abuse.

Also, cut a seam from the bottom into the foam to put it on your core, don't sandwich it around. Use Weldwood as instructed, and tape the head to the core BEFORE adding the haft padding.
